Description

Terra Horizon

Tall mountains, roads between towns, and a warm kitchen to come home to.

Terra Horizon is a Fabric 1.20.1 modpack for a long-term survival world that mixes adventure and cozy living. Tectonic shapes the land into tall mountain ranges, deep valleys and wide coastlines. RoadWeaver builds roads between villages and structures, so there's always a path to the next settlement. Dungeons, ruins, towers and boss arenas are spread across the Overworld, the Nether, the End and beyond. Back home you can cook with Farmer's Delight, farm through four seasons with Serene Seasons, decorate with the Macaw's suite and keep your loot in drawers and backpacks.

Distant Horizons lets you see mountains many kilometres away. Complementary Reimagined and Solas shaders are included, and the pack has its own title screen and logo. An FTB Quests book with 152 quests is there as an optional guide; you never have to follow it.

Minecraft 1.20.1 - Fabric 0.19.5 - About 300 mods

Recommended Specs

  • Memory allocated to Minecraft: 8 GB (please don't allocate more than 10 GB)
  • System RAM: 16 GB recommended
  • GPU: A dedicated GPU is recommended for shaders and Distant Horizons
  • Java: Handled automatically by the CurseForge app

Allocating too much memory can make garbage collection pauses longer and cause stutter. 8 GB is the sweet spot for this pack.

Low FPS? Turn off shaders (K toggles them; O opens the shader menu), lower the Distant Horizons LOD distance, or keep vanilla render distance around 8-12. For instant far LODs you can pre-generate chunks with Chunky: /chunky radius 3000 (or any radius in blocks), then /chunky start.

Key Features

Epic terrain and living roads

  • Tectonic terrain: huge mountain ranges, deep valleys, rivers and cliffs.
  • Oh The Biomes We've Gone, Nature's Spirit, Traverse, Promenade, Ecologics, Galosphere, Spelunkery and Geophilic add biomes, run through TerraBlender and Biolith. Oh The Trees You'll Grow adds trees.
  • RoadWeaver makes road networks that connect villages and structures, so exploring feels like travelling rather than wandering.
  • Four seasons from Serene Seasons: Spring, Summer, Autumn and Winter. Each season lasts 27 in-game days (three 9-day sub-seasons, a 108-day year), and new worlds start in Early Spring.
  • Seasons change grass and leaf colors and weather, and Winter brings snow and ice to cold biomes. Vanilla and Farmer's Delight crops grow well only in their seasons, but crops under glass (a greenhouse) grow all year. Craft a Calendar (8 paper around a clock) to track the season.
  • Frostiful makes cold a survival concern, so pack warm gear before you head for the peaks.

Structures and dungeons

  • The full YUNG's set: Better Dungeons, Mineshafts, Strongholds, Desert and Jungle Temples, Ocean Monuments, Nether Fortresses, Witch Huts, End Island, Bridges and Extras.
  • When Dungeons Arise, Dungeons and Taverns, Explorify, Repurposed Structures, Towns and Towers, Structory and Structory: Towers, Towers of the Wild Modded, and Moog's Voyager and End Structures.
  • ChoiceTheorem's Overhauled Village and Better Villages make villages richer. Guard Villagers protects them.
  • Deeper dimensions: Incendium (Nether), BetterEnd and Nullscape (End), End Remastered, and Deeper and Darker, which adds the Otherside.

Bosses

Challenge fights from several mods, all tracked in the Bosses quest chapter:

  • Bosses of Mass Destruction: Night Lich, Void Blossom, Nether Gauntlet, Obsidilith
  • AdventureZ: Blackstone Golem, Void Shadow, The Eye
  • Illager Invasion (Invoker), Aquamirae (Captain Cornelia), Friends & Foes (Wildfire), Galosphere (Berserker)
  • The vanilla Wither, Warden and an overhauled Ender Dragon (True Ending)

Magic, metals and gear

Terra Horizon's "magic" is enchanting, artifacts and new metals:

  • Mythic Metals, Mythic Upgrades and Alloy Forgery add new ores, alloys and upgrade paths.
  • Enchanting Infuser, Easy Anvils, EMI Enchants and Enchantment Descriptions make enchanting easier to understand and control.
  • Artifacts hides relics in chests. Charm of Undying lets a Totem of Undying work from a charm slot, and Advanced Netherite adds tiers beyond netherite.

Weapons and combat

  • Simply Swords adds a wide range of weapon types.
  • Better Combat gives weapons proper swing animations, and Combat Roll lets you dodge.
  • Immersive Armors adds armor sets. Farmer's Knives adds knives for every tier.

Food and farming

  • Farmer's Delight (Refabricated) is the core, with Cultural Delights, Nether's Delight, End's Delight, Ocean's Delight, Farmer's Cutting: Promenade and Sushi Bar.
  • The [Let's Do] family: Farm & Charm, Vinery, NetherVinery, Bakery, Brewery, Candlelight, Beachparty, Meadow, HerbalBrews, BloomingNature and WilderNature.
  • RightClickHarvest, Harvest with ease and Smarter Farmers make farming smoother. AppleSkin shows food values.

Storage and home

  • Storage Drawers, Tom's Simple Storage, Traveler's Backpack, Easy Shulker Boxes, Nether Chested and Shulker Box Tooltip.
  • Inventory Essentials, Inventory Profiles Next, Mouse Tweaks, Client Sort and TrashSlot make inventory handling easier.
  • Building and decoration: the Macaw's suite (doors, windows, roofs, bridges, fences, lights, paths, furniture, trapdoors), Handcrafted, Another Furniture, Furnish, Beautify, Decorative Blocks, Chipped, Twigs, Supplementaries, Amendments and Dramatic Doors.
  • Comforts adds sleeping bags and hammocks. Waystones lets you teleport between your bases.

Laptop without a numpad? Rebind these in Options -> Controls -> Key Binds. The Controlling mod adds a search box to that screen.

First Launch Notes

  1. The first start takes a while. With about 300 mods, a minute or more is normal.
  2. BetterX welcome screen. BCLib (used by BetterEnd) shows a "Welcome to BetterX" setup screen once. Read it, set the options you like, scroll down and confirm. It won't appear again.
  3. Minecraft's own accessibility and narrator prompt may appear too. Press Continue.
  4. Shaders start enabled (Complementary Reimagined). Turn them off with K if your PC struggles.
  5. Distant Horizons builds far LODs in the background as you explore, so expect higher CPU use at first.
  6. Quest book: open it with the Quests button in the inventory sidebar. To use a hotkey, bind the FTB Quests key under Controls.

FAQ

Do I have to follow the quests? No. The FTB Quests book is an optional guide and rewards collection; nothing is locked behind it.

Is there magic? Yes, through enchanting (Enchanting Infuser, EMI Enchants), Artifacts, Mythic Metals and Alloy Forgery.

Can I turn off shaders or Distant Horizons? Yes. Toggle shaders with K or choose "OFF" in the shader menu (O). Distant Horizons has its own settings, including its render distance and an on/off switch.

My laptop has no numpad. What do I do? Rebind the numpad keys listed above under Options -> Controls. Use the search box from Controlling to find them.

How do the seasons work?

Serene Seasons runs a 108-day year: 27 days each for Spring, Summer, Autumn and Winter. Hover over seeds to see which seasons they grow in. Out of season they grow very slowly, so plan a greenhouse for Winter. Craft a Calendar to see the current season.

Why is it cold up in the mountains? Frostiful adds temperature. Warm clothing, shelter and heat sources keep you alive.

Can I add or remove mods? Yes, it's your instance. Removing worldgen mods from an existing world can break it, though, so always back up first.

How do I update? Update through the CurseForge app, and back up your world first. Check the changelog for world-breaking changes (see the version scheme below).

Is there a server pack? Not yet. Singleplayer and LAN play are supported, and Simple Voice Chat is included.

Version Scheme

Versions follow 1.20.1-X.Y.Z (Minecraft version plus pack version):

  • X: major pack reset or world-breaking content change
  • Y: notable mod additions or removals, or balance shifts
  • Z: hotfixes and dependency updates

Current release: 1.20.1-1.0.0

Credits

Terra Horizon is only possible because of the mod authors below. Every mod keeps its own license and is downloaded from its own CurseForge project; this pack doesn't claim any of their work. Please support them.

The pack's own content (quest book, configs, title panorama and logo) is by XuShiExpresso.

Thanks as well to the Fabric team, and to Mojang for Minecraft.
