This modpack is a highly modified fork of the much more polished MC Eternal 1.3.7 by adam98991, which I highly recommend you check out before trying this pack!
Why did I make this?
Personally after playing with MC Eternal with some friends on a server, we found that a lot of the mods featured felt more like bloat than content. Originally, this was going to just be a mod trim and repackage job, but eventually I decided it would be better to build the pack from the ground up and use MC Eternal as a reference. As of current, the only remaining part of MC Eternal within this modpack are the majority of the quest and shop elements, however, over time I do plan to replace these elements to allow the modpack to stand on its own, independent from Eternal.
Reasons to use this pack over MC Eternal:
- Ram usage
MC Eternal recommends at least 8GB of ram for the best experience, with 5.5GB being a bare minimum for an enjoyable experience. Due to a smaller mod pool, Fennecraft is able to achieve great performance on only 6GB of ram, with the tested optimal minimum sitting at 4GB. This makes it more ideal for computers running Windows who only have 8GB of dedicated ram. Increased performance can be obtained with JVM arguments. Given that it is still heavier than MC Eternal Lite, Fennecraft sits in a sort of middle ground, maximizing performance and content! - Improved Loot Crates
MC Eternal's quest system has a habit of giving you extremely overpowered items for relatively no effort. This is because of a limited pool of loot rewards, which have also been poorly balanced. Fennecraft uses maths! and config files... to balance the loot tables for the crates, ensuring you can't get a dragon egg for crafting 16 ladders, or get 16 ladders for killing the ender dragon, reducing overall cheese
- Quest Re-balancing
Some of MC Eternal's quest lines felt a little too limiting and enforcing, such as the Ice & Fire segment of introduction, which forced players to go through the process of taming a dragon if they wanted to be able to play the rest of the modpack effectively. Some people just want to build crazy houses or make a massive nuclear generator, and the intro quest buffer was limiting players from buying in the shop, or selling to the universe. To resolve this, many sections of the quests have been shifted into new categories to allow players more freedom to play how they deem fit.
- Reworked Player Shop
To say that MC Eternal's player shop was broken is an understatement. Gold blocks were less valued than ingots, despite not requiring as many completed quests. Using yet more maths, Fennecraft's player shop aims to be as fair as possible, with many resources sell-able without even setting foot in the quest menu!
Reasons to choose MC Eternal over this pack:
- Magic
A large amount of magic mods were cut from this pack, primarily due to to feeling redundant via tech mods, or due to a lack of interest within my group. If you like magic, this might not be the pack for you
- Quests
Another thing that was sacrificed within this pack was a large portion of the quest lines. This was due to missing dependencies, or due to a lack of functionality. Whilst this modpack is technically more content dense, there is less content overall.
- Stability
Whilst I am currently actively working to improve the pack, I cannot promise that the pack will continue to be updated in the future. I will not be backporting any new content from Eternal into this pack, as I intend for this pack to remain a separate project. Although this has been thoroughly play-tested, Adam is a way better dev than me, I'd trust him more with a stable game experience.
Where's Optifine?
The creator of Optifine sp614x does not wish for his mod to be included in any modpacks. This means that if you wish to use Optifine to gain better performance or shaders, you will need to add the Optifine Jar file to the modpack folder manually. This can be manually done by placing the .Jar file inside the manual install .Zip download in /overrides/mods to patch the .zip file. Alternatively, if installing by Curseforge, you can place the Optifine .Jar file inside the /Documents/curseforge/minecraft/Instances/Fennecraft/mods folder after installing. Whilst installing Optifine is not required, it is highly recommended to improve performance! Changing shaders within a world may result in a crash! Modded MC is much heavier than Vanilla, shaders may run slower than expected!
The recommended version of Optifine for this pack is 1.12.2 - OptiFine HD U G5 which can be downloaded here
JVM arguments:
If you're struggling to get this pack to run, especially with shaders, it may help to assign JVM flags for startup. There are 3 ways you can do this
- If using Curseforge, go to settings in bottom left, select minecraft, and in Additional Arguments, place the below arguments.
- If using Technic, go to Discover tab, launcher options in the top right, java settings, and in Java args, place the below arguments.
- If using MultiMC, right click the modpack, select Edit Instance, select the settings tab, and in Java Arguments paste the below arguments.
-XX:+UseConcMarkSweepGC -XX:ParallelGCThreads=4 -XX:+DisableExplicitGC -XX:+CMSIncrementalMode -Dsun.rmi.dgc.server.gcInterval=2147483646 -XX:+UnlockExperimentalVMOptions -XX:MaxGCPauseMillis=50
Even if you're not using shaders, these settings can help to reduce load times substantially and improve frames. If you know what you're doing, you can use your own custom flags such as -G1GC, however personally I have found it heap clears ram and only works well when ram is in excess i.e <8GB is assigned to JVM, however your mileage may vary!

Credits:
Adam (adam98991) - Core modpack structure, majority of quests and shop items, and major inspiration to us all! (I never finished his pack, he still technically owns this pack, everything I ever make, and my soul)
MrAlcoholicFox - Pretty text renders and moral support, also contributed memes and jank, and a few too many nukes for my little server to cope :(
Epikbot - Optimisation and feature assistance
BasalFlounder15, DarkWolfHunter6, Dogeguylol, Higsy, Escher, Niko, Alienator, Lupi - Beta testers and part-time server crashers.
Azeria - provided an extremely cute little mascot to hide within the pack, and didn't break it too much :)
Terms of usage:
To reflect briefly on my terms of service for Fennecraft, I support use of my modpack where there is no financial link to the access to implementations of the modpack. This means that personal private use or open public use is allowed, however I do not approve of using the pack in a way that players must pay for entry in some way, be it a time commitment or monetary commitment. Verification is fine, but it should not require a user to pay significantly with their time or money. Fennecraft is a passion project I made using my personal time, and I would hate to see it paywalled for commercial gain. By using this modpack you agree to these terms:
Whilst I am not affiliated with adam98991, I have received permission from him via discord to distribute this pack on Curseforge. This does not include permission to publicly distribute a server-pack. Please consult with him if you wish to make a fork of MC Eternal. As I do not own many of the quest and shop assets within the pack, I therefore cannot give permission for redistribution. You cannot create a fork of this pack without obtaining permission to fork MC Eternal first. Custom assets and textures contained within the pack are not open for redistribution unless stated otherwise by me. I reserve the right to cease distribution of the pack at any time. I do not approve of commercial use of my pack, including pay-2-play. All uses of my pack must either be public to access, or private between select individuals. All mods belong to their respected mod owners.
