When starting a world, make sure you select "Lost Cities" world type.
The world has been decimated by supernatural forces that had been conjured by a strange rift. Animals have mutated, magical parasites have spawned hordes of zombies, and the elementals scout the ruins of what once were cities, slaughtering any human survivors in the vicinity. You find yourself extremely lucky to be able to even get your hands on a shard of flint without getting attacked by even the most unlikely of creatures and entities. Can you manage to survive long enough to make it to the Twilight Forest and slay the deities that have destroyed your precious planet?
Superstes is a highly difficult modpack with Sci-Fi and horror aspects where you have to survive in the ruins of human civilization and slay the bosses of the Twilight Forest that had destroyed your world. You start off with some minor weapons and a note from PARC, the people who have sent you into the city ruins (This is not in the rework beta. It probably won't come back). Make sure that you keep track of where you are going, as you could die at any moment and have to find your way back to where you were killed. Your stuff is stored in a grave, so don't worry about taking too long to make it. In most modpacks, or Minecraft gameplays in general, you wanna start by punching down a tree, right? If you punch a tree, you'll realize how stupid it is to punch a tree down with your bare fists, because it's painful and unrewarding in this pack. What do you do, then? The safer thing to do is to scout for gravel and harvest flint. Smash the flint against stone and it turns into shards. The more risky thing to do is kill skeletons. They will probably be easier to find than flint as you almost always have some trying to snipe you from the towers. After smashing a bone against stone, you not only get a shard, but also a sharp bone you can use as a weapon. You also have to harvest plant fiber from grass which you can turn into twines, and harvest sticks from leaves. Combine the stick, twine and flint/bone shard, and you get a hatchet. Now you can cut down trees. AI and abilities for mobs have been changed to be a lot more deadly, and every night, mobs come to your base and try to break in (that is if you have a base. If you don't, your best bet is to cower in a hole, and even that is dangerous). You can't sleep during the night, so at night, hide in an underground bunker, or if you're powerful enough, plant turrets and other defenses all over your base. No matter how powerful you are, you'll always be under threat of death, and potentially have to start from scratch.
