What is NITRO?
NITRO is a nuclear technology progression pack for Minecraft 1.12.2 that integrates HBM's Nuclear Tech with NuclearCraft: Overhauled. After multiple years of development, it has grown into a tech experience with over 30 custom CraftTweaker scripts, 18 custom multiblock machines, and thousands of modified recipes.
The core goal is to experience the complete nuclear fuel cycle as realistically as Minecraft allows. You mine uranium, process it into yellowcake, enrich it through gas centrifugation, fabricate fuel rods, run fission reactors, and reprocess depleted fuel through a custom SILEX laser isotope separation machine. Every step matters, and every waste product needs to be handled.
If managing radioactive isotopes and their decay products sounds interesting rather than tedious, this pack is for you.
Nuclear Processing
NITRO replaces the default NuclearCraft fuel reprocessor with SILEX, a custom multiblock machine that uses laser crystals to separate isotopes from depleted fuel. Depending on fuel type, you recover uranium, plutonium, americium, curium, berkelium, or californium isotopes, along with radioactive waste products like Strontium-90, Cesium-137, and Europium-155.
The Gas Centrifuge handles uranium hexafluoride enrichment, taking low-enriched material and producing weapons-grade isotopes. Steam Condensers in three tiers let you recycle exhaust steam back into water, creating sustainable power loops. The Decay Pool processes radioactive materials while outputting preheated water for steam generation.
With QMD, you push further, creating new elements through muon-catalyzed fusion in the Nucleosynthesis Chamber.
Mod Integration
HBM and NuclearCraft were not designed to work together, but NITRO bridges them through careful recipe modifications. You craft NuclearCraft machines using HBM's anvil and crucible. Solenoids and copper coils are interchangeable. Motors are shared between both mods. Basic plating requires crucible-cast steel from HBM before you can progress into NuclearCraft's machine line.
Pam's HarvestCraft items feed into HBM's biomass production. Trinity handles radiation effects and fallout zones. Custom RadAway variants, iodine pills, and hazmat suits keep you alive when things get hot. Applied Energistics 2 helps you manage the complexity once your base grows beyond manual automation.
Exploration and Space
World generation uses Biomes O' Plenty, Better Caves, Better Nether, and The Beneath for diverse environments. Later on, Advanced Rocketry opens space travel. Build rockets, establish orbital stations, and visit other planets to gather resources unavailable on the overworld.
Dilithium powers your most advanced propulsion systems. Space is where you find materials needed for the highest tier machinery.
Progression and Quests
NITRO comes with a BetterQuesting questbook with 717 quests across 23 questlines that guide you through the progression. The quests explain the technology, point you toward the right machines, and reward you for hitting milestones.
The early game focuses on survival and getting your first HBM infrastructure running. Mid-game transitions into NuclearCraft fission and basic isotope processing. Late-game opens MSRs, QMD particle physics, and Advanced Rocketry space exploration.
Who is this pack for?
If you enjoy designing complex processing chains, if the idea of managing radioactive isotopes and their decay products sounds interesting rather than tedious, if building a nuclear empire that spans from underground enrichment facilities to orbital stations appeals to you, NITRO will keep you engaged.
Roadmap
- Expanding and refining quest lines with better rewards
- Migrating some Modular Machinery multiblocks to native NCO custom machines
- Additional custom planets for Advanced Rocketry
