Immersive Rail Expeditions (IRE) is a modpack technologically capped at the early industrial age when locomotives were the workhorses to connect wide ranges of areas in the world.
Immersive Rail Expeditions is a world where you can establish economic colonies. Develop strategic resources necessitating trade via high density cargo, the locomotive rail.
IRE features biome and elevation linked resources that vary from building stone types for construction to rare metals to petroleum. The blend of cutting edge geology mods interact to create a truly unique below ground experience. Above ground, there are numerous biomes to visit, trees and petrified woods to harvest, and gigantic ruins to explore and plunder for resources.
But getting to a point where you are wealthy enough to build colonies will not be easy. This world is geared toward the low tech and is capped at the mid-industrial era. Better with Mods start your adventure with low tech and rotational energy power (wind and water driven mechanics). If you are lucky you may discover knowledge left by an ancient dwarven civilization. And progress to fundamental iron making. Control of systems, moving items, steam, and liquids follows. And finally the discovery of how to generate power from motive forces, magnetism, and chemistry.
The ultimate expression of your success and wealth is the building of a real world type rail system capable of carrying passengers, and moving dry and liquid cargo between stations, pulled by some of the great locomotives from real life and fantasy.
Trains are not the only way to get around. Have you ever fantasized about building a truly huge dirigible conveyance? Dirigibles are slow but high in cargo capacity and do not fear oceans or mountains.

Attention: IRE is currently in very early Alpha Development. Expect numerous additions, changes, and refinements in the future until the official release. SteampunkBobby will be consulting on the immersive railroading side providing some excellent insight to the whole Immersive Railroading side of the project.
