📖 About 📖

Courier Owls is a medieval themed mod made for the Echoes of the Past 2026 mod jam. It adds owls that live in tree hollows and carry your stuff to other players.

Owls fly with a very realistic, believable custom flight behavior: they path around obstacles, brake, glide, land gracefully and perch, like real birds.

Requires Moonlight Library.

🦉 Features 🦉

Owls

• Very realistic bird movement, probably must cutting edge thing that there is here
• Can glide, dive, turn believably and accurately pathfind like a bird would do.  These arent reskineed parrots
• Spawn in forests, taigas, swamps and other wooded country
• Ten species, picked by the biome they spawn in
• Hunt rabbits and chickens, diving on them from above
• Tame them with any wolf food or a rabbit's foodd

Nests

• Tree Hollow: generates in trees, one per wood type. Some come with an owl already asleep inside
• Wild owls look for a free hollow and move in
• Bird House: a nest you can place yourself
• To give a tamed owl a home, feed it, then click the nest with the same food

Deliveries

• Sneak right-click a tamed owl while holding a stack to hand it over, click again to take it back
• Giving it a normal stack will make it go to its own hollow
• Give it a Cardboard Package: put items in it and write a name on it, the owl flies it to that player wherever they are
• The recipient is told when the owl sets off and when it lands next to them
• They get couple of seconds to take it, then the owl brings it back to you
• When target is far away owl takes more time to get there. 
• Yes owls can chunk load the chunks where their hollow is when they "fly" back
