Runic Skills 1.9.0 (Forge 1.20.1)
Curse Maven Snippet
What's new
[1.9.0] - August 25th, 2026
A major fix for player progression being lost on death, alongside the removal of the old spell-attunement requirement.
Fixed Progression Being Wiped on Death
Since 1.7.0, dying could completely reset a player's Runic Skills character.
This included:
- Skills returning to level 1.
- Perks and Passives being reset.
- Equipped Powers being lost.
- Titles being removed.
The same problem could also happen when returning through the End portal.
This has now been fixed. Player progression will properly carry over when the player entity is recreated.
Important: Characters already wiped by versions 1.7.x or 1.8.x cannot be automatically restored, because the reset data may already have been saved. If available, restore the affected player data from a world backup.
Additional automated checks have been added to prevent this issue from returning.
Removed Spell Attunement
Iron's Spells spell schools no longer need to be manually attuned before you can cast them.
Previously, players had to unlock individual school-attunement perks and were limited to a configurable number of selected schools.
The following attunements have been removed:
- Fire
- Ice
- Lightning
- Holy
- Nature
- Blood
- Ender
- Evocation
- Eldritch
The related selection limit, configuration options, icons, and translations have also been removed.
Spell Specialization Still Works
Only the requirement to select a school before casting was removed.
Existing specialist perks remain unchanged, including perks such as:
- Pyromancer
- Fire Warded
- Fire Catalyst
- Other school-specific bonuses
These perks still activate according to the school of the spell being cast.
The following systems are also unchanged:
- Magic-level requirements for spells.
- School-specific bonuses.
- Cross-mod spell-school bonuses.
- Gem, Aura, Mystic, and Source Attunement perks.
Existing Saves
- Existing worlds remain compatible.
- Old attunement data is preserved harmlessly in player saves rather than deleted.
- No save migration is required.
- Removing the attunement perks does not affect multiplayer login compatibility.
Additional Cleanup
- Removed obsolete spell-attunement configuration and localization entries.
- Fixed several duplicate spell-school translation keys.
