Your's Truly

Finish a quest chain and the person it changed writes you a letter, sealed and waiting at your next mailbox.

Yours Truly: Letters from the People You Helped

You deliver a lot of letters in World of Warcraft: a soldier's last words home, a girl's love letter. Hardly anyone writes back. Yours Truly does.

Finish a quest chain that changed someone's life, and that person writes you a letter, in their own voice, about what happened and what came after. Fifteen minutes of play later, it waits for you at the next mailbox you open, sealed. Click to break the seal.

For Classic Era (Hardcore included) and World of Warcraft: Forever, in one download.

The letters

A militia captain thanks you for a job he didn't enjoy asking of you. A soldier's widow tells you how her boys ask for their father's letter again. A goblin still owes you, on paper. A young elf writes from the cave where you found him, because the spiders are still between him and home.

Classic Era has sixty-nine letters and Forever seventy-three, the extra ones from the Skyborne's start on Zephras Isle. There is one from every starting zone, so a new character usually gets a letter in its first hour or two, then a trail of them up to level 60 on both sides, from the Defias Brotherhood and Mankrik's wife to Linken's sword and Tirion Fordring's son. More will come.

A letter tells what the chain itself told you, then a little of the writer's life since. It never sends you anywhere and never promises a reward. It arrives only once its chain is done, so it can't spoil one you haven't finished.

At the mailbox

  • A letter waits fifteen minutes of play after you finish its chain, then comes with the next mailbox you open.
  • The mail icon on the minimap tells you a letter waits. At the mailbox they are listed in a window beside the mail, as the game lists mail, and each opens on the game's own paper, signed by its writer, with the chain it answers named at the bottom.
  • New letters never pile up: one or two arrive per visit.
  • Chains you finished before installing Yours Truly count too. They come at the next mailbox, with no wait, a row each in the list: break the seals one by one, or all at once.

The book

Every letter you receive is kept in Yours Truly's book, newest first: who wrote, where from, the chain it answers and when it came. The book counts letters by zone for your faction ("Westfall: 1 of 2") without naming the ones still to come.

The book also keeps achievements: your first broken seal, letters from far and wide, one from every starting zone, a few tied to particular writers, and every letter your character can receive. Each comes with the game's fanfare and an achievement alert, which you can turn off in the settings.

Compatibility

Each game loads only the letters it can earn.

If another addon replaces the game's mail window, the letter opens on its own, in a window you can move anywhere.

Yours Truly is in English, French, German and Spanish: every letter in its writer's voice, and the interface. German and Spanish are first translations: corrections are welcome on GitHub. Both Spanish clients share the letters, each with its own game names. On other clients the letters and the interface appear in English, while writers, places and quests keep the names your client gives them.

Settings and commands

Open the book with /yourstruly or the minimap button. The welcome page appears once per character and can be reopened with /yourstruly welcome.

Settings are under Options > AddOns > Yours Truly, through /yourstruly settings or a right-click on the minimap button: the achievement alert and its sound, how long banners stay and the minimap button. Each character has its own. Copy another character's settings within the same game, or use /yourstruly export and /yourstruly import CODE.

  • /yourstruly achievements opens the book at its achievements.
  • /yourstruly minimap shows or hides the minimap button.

Other addons

These share Yours Truly's look and work independently:

  • Hearthtale (Wago) writes a diary for your character as you play, with an epitaph when a Hardcore life ends.
  • Lorekeeper's Codex (Wago) unlocks lore pages as you explore Azeroth and meet its people.
  • Yonder (Wago) offers exploration riddles, rare hunts, a bestiary, an atlas and records of your fish and herbs.
  • Second Wind (Wago) gives you a debrief after a close call or death.
  • Mealbook (Wago) keeps a chef's cookbook that fills in as you learn to cook, and plans your road to 300.
  • Palaver (Wago) puts quests and NPC conversations in a large panel beside the one you speak to, read and answered from the keyboard.
  • Goodwill (Wago) shows every faction's road to Exalted from where you stand, and tells a chapter of its story at each standing.

Support

Yours Truly is free, and will stay free. If a letter ever made you stop and read it twice, you can say thanks with a coffee on Ko-fi: it helps the letters keep coming. Thank you.
