🤔 What is Xal's Common Tongue?

Ever had someone in party, guild, or general chat writing in a language you just don't read? Common Tongue quietly rewrites the common stuff into your own language as it comes in, so you can actually follow along.

Two things to know up front:

• This addon on its own does nothing. It's the engine. You also install a language pack — a separate little addon — and that's what it translates from. Add as many or as few as you like.
• It's built to catch the meaning, not to be a perfect translator. It works from a dictionary of common words and phrases, so you'll get the sense of what's being said — a few odd words here and there are normal, and anything it doesn't know just passes through untouched.

Available now: the Spanish language pack. More languages are in the works.

Everything runs inside WoW. No outside program, no downloads while you play, no accounts.

✅ Reads every channel — say, yell, party, raid, guild, officer, whispers, instance chat, and custom channels. ✅ Phrase-first translation — whole common phrases are matched before single words, so a line reads like a sentence instead of disconnected word swaps. ✅ Every language at once — install as many language packs as you like and they're all translated automatically. Nothing to switch, no guessing which language someone's about to use. ✅ Never loses the original — the translation shows first with a dim (auto) tag, then the original message right after it, so a false match never hides what was really said. ✅ Only what you want — each language is its own small companion addon, so you're never carrying dictionaries you'll never use. ✅ Simple controls — a settings window and a minimap button to switch translation on or off. ✅ Completely local — no external app, no network calls, no runtime downloads.

• An opt-in way to help the dictionary grow — quietly noting the common words and phrases it couldn't translate, so the gaps you actually run into get filled in over time.
