Villagers repair the damage a raid or an explosion left in the village.
Masons, toolsmiths and nitwits walk to the spot, work for a few seconds, and put the block back.

Requirements
- On Fabric you need Fabric API. On Forge or NeoForge you do not.
- Server-side: install it on the server (or in singleplayer). Players do not need it, and vanilla clients can join without it.
- Languages: English and German. German shows for players who have the mod installed (for example in singleplayer); vanilla clients without the mod see English.
What it does
- Explosions, fire spreading, zombies breaking doors and ravagers count as damage while they happen inside a village, but only during an active raid; explosions are recorded at any time. TNT itself is never recorded, so a TNT explosion is never rebuilt.
- Anything a player does, including player-lit TNT, building or breaking blocks, is never recorded.
- Villagers with a repair profession walk to a damaged spot in the daytime and rebuild it, with particles, over a few seconds; several villagers can work on the same village at once. Which professions repair is data-driven through the tag
raid_aftermath:repairers(mason, toolsmith and nitwit by default). - Two-part blocks, like doors and beds, are always repaired together as a pair.
- Destroyed blocks drop as usual. Blocks that keep items or data, like a shulker box, a banner or a head, are not rebuilt. Chests, barrels, beds, bells and job-site blocks (furnace, smoker, blast furnace, lectern, brewing stand, campfire) are rebuilt; their contents drop as usual. The list is the tag
raid_aftermath:rebuildable. - Short grass, ferns, flowers, saplings and crops are never rebuilt; they grow back on their own. A rebuilt grass block matches whatever snow layer sits above it at repair time, not the state it was in when it was destroyed.
- Filling in a hole lifts any mob standing in it onto the new block instead of trapping it inside.
- A spot that no villager repairs within
abandonAfterDaysdays of active village time is forgotten. - Right-clicking the village bell shows how many houses are still damaged.
- Optionally, the materials for the repair are taken from the village's own chests.
Advancements
- Good as New: the last damaged spot in a village is repaired.
Configuration
File: raid_aftermath.json.
| Field | Default | What it does |
|---|---|---|
payFromChests |
false |
Takes repair materials from village chests instead of repairing for free. |
maxWorkersPerVillage |
3 |
How many villagers can repair the same village at once. |
workTicks |
60 |
How long a villager works on one spot. |
abandonAfterDays |
3 |
Days of active village time after which an unrepaired spot is forgotten (1 to 30). |
A config file with a syntax error is left untouched: the mod logs the problem and keeps the last working settings instead of overwriting the file with defaults.
Commands
| Command | Does |
|---|---|
/raidaftermath status |
Lists the open damage in the village at your location. |
Needs operator permission.
Good to know
- Only block damage is tracked, never chest contents.
- A damaged spot is dropped if a player has already built something else there.
- With
payFromChestson and the material missing, the spot stays open and is retried later.
Part of VanillaTales
Raid Aftermath is part of VanillaTales, a collection of small, independent mods that add little stories to vanilla content. Each mod works on its own; install only the ones you want.
- Zombie Sieges: turns a vanilla zombie siege into a real event, with a ringing bell, a boss bar and two waves of zombies.
- Sherd Stories: gives every decorated pot a title and the story of where its sherds were found.
- Ghost Crews: gives every shipwreck a name and a crew of drowned that guard it until it is looted clean.
- Illager Scouts: a pillager scout watches your village and warns you two days before a patrol arrives.
- Occupied Villages: some new villages spawn already occupied by an illager garrison you can liberate.
- Bonded Pairs: binds two mobs from the same spawn group into a pair that avenges each other.
- Golem Patrol: gives iron golems a daily patrol, a night watch and an escort for villagers.
- Wayfarer's Landmarks: shows a title and helpful icons when you enter a structure.
