Homing Missiles
Homing Missiles adds rocket pods, guided missiles, targeting, missile warnings, and countermeasures to Immersive Aircraft.
Install a launcher, load it with the matching ammunition, and choose a weapon. Air-to-air missiles lock aircraft in front of you, while the air-to-ground missile locks visible targets below. Flares can fool heat seekers, and chaff can fool radar missiles.
Required: Immersive Aircraft must also be installed. For multiplayer, install Homing Missiles on both the client and server.
Features
- Four-cell rocket pods and missile launchers with visible ammunition
- Unguided rockets, heat seekers, radar missiles, an air-to-ground missile, and training ammunition
- A separate fire key, so missiles do not fire together with the aircraft's main gun
- Single, pair, and timed ripple fire for unguided rockets
- Air targets use a broken-ring marker; ground targets use a diamond
- An impact marker for unguided rockets that accounts for the aircraft's movement and the missile's flight
- Missile warnings, time-to-impact information, flares, and chaff
- A compact HUD showing the selected weapon, ammunition, lock, target, and incoming threats
- Minecraft-style launcher models and pixel-art item icons
- Survival recipes, Creative inventory entries, and support for compatible add-on aircraft
Weapons
- Standard Rocket — balanced unguided rocket
- High-Explosive Rocket — larger blast for structures and grouped targets
- Napalm Rocket — incendiary impact with spreading fire
- Armor-Piercing Rocket — high direct vehicle damage with a smaller blast
- Heat-Seeking Missile — infrared-guided missile vulnerable to flares
- Radar-Guided Missile — longer-range guided missile vulnerable to chaff
- Training Missile — guided practice missile without a destructive explosion
- Air-to-Ground Missile — locks visible ground targets, climbs slightly after launch, then dives onto the target
Each launcher consumes matching ammunition from the aircraft inventory or pilot inventory. Creative-mode players do not consume ammunition.
Targeting and controls
| Z | Fire the selected Homing Missiles weapon |
| R | Cycle valid forward targets |
| G | Cycle installed Homing Missiles weapons |
| N | Cycle single, pair, and ripple fire |
| X | Deploy the recommended countermeasure |
| V | Deploy flares |
| B | Deploy chaff |
Targets must be visible, in range, and in front of the aircraft. Solid blocks stop the lock. Air seekers only target aircraft. The air-to-ground seeker targets mobs, players, boats, minecarts, and compatible modded ground units, but ignores aircraft, spectators, and passengers.
- Orange — target detected
- Amber — lock developing
- Green — strong firing solution
Wait for green before firing if you want the best chance of a hit. Modpacks can add compatible ground units through the aerial_rockets:ground_missile_targets entity tag.
Countermeasures and warnings
Install an Aircraft Countermeasure Dispenser and carry flare or chaff cartridges in the aircraft inventory.
- Flares create heat decoys for infrared missiles.
- Chaff creates radar decoys for radar-guided missiles.
- Smart defense identifies the most urgent incoming missile and deploys the matching countermeasure.
Countermeasure effectiveness depends on timing, distance, seeker type, and missile state. Deploying them does not guarantee that the lock will be broken.
Missile behavior
- Boost, sustain, and coast phases instead of one constant speed
- Turning limits, energy loss, and target lead
- Signal loss, seeker memory, and line-of-sight checks after launch
- Swept collision and proximity checks for fast missiles
- A shallow loft and terminal dive for the air-to-ground missile
- Persistent smoke and flame trails
- A real BGM-71 TOW launch recording and four longer-range explosion sounds
- Configurable explosions, terrain damage, fire spread, and camera shake
