About the mod
Realistic Landing is a complete landing and rollout overhaul for Immersive Aircraft. It replaces abrupt touchdown behavior with an adaptive landing sequence that responds to aircraft speed, weight, payload, height above the runway, and surface conditions.
From approach and flare to touchdown, rollout, and taxi, each stage feels smoother and more deliberate while preserving the familiar Immersive Aircraft flight style.
Important: This is an add-on and is not a standalone mod. Immersive Aircraft must also be installed.
Features
- Complete approach, flare, touchdown, rollout, taxi, and go-around system
- Adaptive landing behavior based on each aircraft's statistics
- Actual ground-clearance detection for runways, hills, rooftops, and elevated landing areas
- Reference speed calculated from aircraft performance, passengers, and cargo
- Progressive sink-rate assistance close to the runway
- Smoother flare and pitch response without removing pilot control
- Controlled wheel-bounce behavior after touchdown
- Progressive braking and rolling resistance instead of sudden stops
- Directional stability during high-speed runway rollout
- Different handling for paved, rough, loose, snowy, and icy surfaces
- Optional hard-landing damage
- Compact configurable landing HUD
- Works with compatible Immersive Aircraft add-on planes
- No new aircraft, items, blocks, or recipes
Landing stages
- Flight — Normal aircraft handling before the landing sequence begins
- Approach — The system tracks ground clearance, speed, descent rate, and runway conditions
- Flare — Pitch response and sink rate are progressively stabilized near the surface
- Touchdown — Landing quality is calculated when the aircraft contacts the ground
- Rollout — Braking, rolling resistance, and directional stability control the deceleration
- Taxi — Normal low-speed ground movement becomes available after rollout
- Go-Around — Landing assistance is immediately released when takeoff power is applied
Touchdown and rollout
- Landing ratings: Smooth, Good, Firm, Hard, and Severe
- Ratings account for sink rate, sideways drift, pitch angle, and forward speed
- Controlled wheel bounce after harder touchdowns
- Progressive braking instead of immediate or unnatural stops
- Directional assistance during high-speed runway rollout
- Natural zero-throttle glide and rollout behavior
- Ground movement remains available from 30% throttle
Surface physics
- Paved surfaces — Stable and predictable runway grip
- Grass and dirt — Increased rolling resistance
- Sand, gravel, and mud — Heavier resistance and longer acceleration requirements
- Snow — Reduced grip with increased rolling resistance
- Ice — Longer rollout distances and reduced steering grip
Optional hard-landing damage is included but disabled by default.
Landing ratings
- Smooth — A gentle and well-aligned touchdown
- Good — A controlled landing with minor imperfections
- Firm — A noticeable but manageable touchdown
- Hard — A rough landing with excessive impact or poor alignment
- Severe — A dangerous touchdown with extreme impact conditions
HUD and configuration
A compact landing HUD displays the current stage, aircraft speed, vertical speed, ground clearance, calculated reference speed, detected surface, and landing rating.
The HUD is positioned directly below the Realistic Takeoff display by default, allowing both add-ons to be used together without overlapping.
Settings are generated in config/realistic-landing.properties.
Choose the Balanced, Realistic, or Cinematic preset, or configure the following settings individually:
- Approach and flare behavior
- Pitch and sink-rate smoothing
- Touchdown and bounce control
- Runway rollout duration
- Braking and rolling resistance
- Surface-specific handling
- Directional runway stability
- Passenger and cargo payload effects
- Go-around throttle threshold
- Hard-landing damage
- Landing-rating thresholds
- HUD visibility, position, and offsets
Presets
- Balanced — Accessible landing assistance with shorter transitions
- Realistic — More deliberate flare, touchdown, and runway-roll behavior
- Cinematic — Extended and smoother transitions for dramatic approaches and landings
Requirements
- This is not a standalone mod
- Required mod: Immersive Aircraft
- Minecraft: 1.20.1 / 1.21.1 / 1.21.11
- Loaders for 1.20.1: Fabric / Forge
- Loaders for 1.21.x: Fabric / NeoForge
- Fabric releases require Fabric API
- Java: 17 for 1.20.1 and 21 or newer for 1.21.x
- For multiplayer, install the add-on on both the client and server
Compatibility
Download the file matching your Minecraft version and mod loader. Realistic Landing is not locked to one exact Immersive Aircraft release and is designed for compatible Immersive Aircraft versions made for the same Minecraft version.
Because the controller uses the shared Immersive Aircraft airplane system, compatible aircraft from other add-ons also receive adaptive landing and rollout behavior.
Feedback and bug reports
Feedback, bug reports, and aircraft-specific tuning reports are welcome. When reporting an issue, please include:
- Your Minecraft version
- Your mod loader and version
- Your Immersive Aircraft version
- The aircraft you tested
- The selected landing preset
- The surface used for landing
- Any relevant configuration changes
