Lock. Launch. Survive.
Homing Missiles 2.0.1 expands Immersive Aircraft with a complete aircraft weapon system: unguided rockets, infrared and radar-guided missiles, target acquisition, warning systems, defensive countermeasures, multiple warheads, and cinematic combat effects.
Install a compatible launcher on an aircraft, load the matching ammunition, select a visible target, and build a firing solution. Enemy pilots are not helpless—timed flares and chaff can break a missile's guidance before impact.
Required: This is an add-on, not a standalone mod. Immersive Aircraft must also be installed. For multiplayer, install Homing Missiles on both the client and server.
A complete aircraft combat system
- Aircraft-mounted launchers — equip open four-rail rocket pods and armored four-cell guided missile racks on compatible vehicles.
- Two seeker types — infrared missiles react to heat and flares; radar missiles react to signal strength and chaff.
- Progressive target acquisition — orange, amber, and green stages show the quality of your firing solution, with faster lock timing in 2.0.1.
- Physical missile flight — guidance accounts for propulsion, energy, turning limits, target lead, and seeker memory.
- Defensive countermeasures — deploy flares and chaff with effectiveness based on timing, distance, seeker type, and missile state.
- Combat HUD — see ammunition, active seeker, lock phase, percentage, target, range, launch quality, and incoming-missile information.
- Readable target beacon — a distance-scaled diamond above the selected aircraft stays visible even when the aircraft model is much larger than its hitbox.
- Tactical warnings — directional and time-to-impact feedback helps pilots react to incoming missiles.
- Broad aircraft support — works with planes, helicopters, and compatible Immersive Aircraft add-on vehicles.
Weapons and warheads
- Standard Rocket — balanced general-purpose unguided ammunition.
- High-Explosive Rocket — a larger blast for structures and grouped targets.
- Napalm Rocket — focused incendiary impact with spreading fire.
- Armor-Piercing Rocket — high direct damage against vehicles with a compact blast.
- Heat-Seeking Missile — infrared guidance that can be defeated by well-timed flares.
- Radar-Guided Missile — longer-range guidance that can be disrupted by chaff.
- Training Missile — guided practice ammunition without a destructive explosion.
Targeting and controls
- Fire — use the normal Immersive Aircraft weapon control.
- R — cycle through valid forward targets.
- G — cycle the installed guided seeker or missile rack.
- X — deploy the countermeasure recommended for the most urgent incoming threat.
- V — deploy flares.
- B — deploy chaff.
Targets must be inside the launcher's range and field of view. Solid terrain blocks acquisition, and a guided missile performs best after the lock indicator turns green. The compact lock strip sits at the top center, leaving both upper corners available for minimaps and the lower aircraft HUD unobstructed.
- Orange — target detected and acquisition has started.
- Amber — lock is developing.
- Green — strong launch solution.
Flares, chaff, and incoming threats
Install an Aircraft Countermeasure Dispenser in the aircraft inventory and carry the matching cartridges. Flares create bright heat decoys for infrared seekers, while chaff creates metallic radar decoys for radar-guided missiles. The smart-defense control identifies the most urgent threat by estimated time to impact and automatically chooses the correct cartridge.
Countermeasures are not guaranteed. Their effectiveness depends on deployment timing, distance, missile type, and seeker state, rewarding pilots who react to the threat warning instead of releasing them too early.
Missile flight and combat effects
- Boost, sustain, and coast motor phases
- Energy-based turning and lead guidance
- Post-launch line-of-sight checks, signal quality, and inertial seeker memory
- Swept proximity fuses that prevent fast missiles from skipping through targets between ticks
- Persistent smoke and flame trails
- Custom launch, flight, warning, and impact sounds
- Impact effects and configurable camera shake
Equipment and ammunition
Each launcher consumes its matching ammunition when fired. Ammunition can be stored in the aircraft inventory or carried by the pilot. Creative-mode pilots do not consume ammunition. Every launcher, missile, rocket, dispenser, and cartridge also has a survival recipe and creative inventory entry.
Configuration
Settings are generated in config/homing-missiles.properties. Server owners can adjust seeker behavior, lock speed, missile guidance, propulsion, maximum range, proximity fuses, explosions, terrain damage, fire spread, countermeasures, ripple timing, trails, warnings, and camera shake.
