Description
Need or Greed?
Know the call on every roll. Need or Greed tells you whether to Need or Greed on group loot, and explains why, so you never have to guess or feel bad about a roll.
When a roll starts, a small panel appears with the item, a clear NEED or GREED, and a plain-English reason. Type /nog for help.
What it does
- Checks if you can use the item: your class's weapon and armor types, shields and relics.
- Compares it to what you're wearing: it weighs stats for your role and tells you whether it's a real upgrade, and by how much.
- Spots empty slots: it tells you when an item fills a slot you haven't equipped yet.
- Respects group etiquette: it suggests Greed for lower armor types, items you can't use, and items that aren't clear upgrades. Need is reserved for real upgrades.
- Handles non-gear too: quest items and recipes get a reminder to Need only if you actually need them.
- Finds your role for you: it picks tank, melee, caster, ranged or healer from your talents, and you can change it any time.
- Works on any item: shift-click an item with `/nog check` to get advice outside of a roll.
Commands
| Command | What it does |
------------------------------
| `/nog` or `/needorgreed` | Show help and your current role |
| `/nog check [item]` | Get advice for any item you shift-click |
| `/nog role <role>` | Set your role: tank, melee, agimelee, ranged, caster, healer, or auto |
| `/nog chat on/off` | Print advice in chat |
| `/nog panel on/off` | Show or hide the advice panel |
| `/nog strict on/off` | Only say Need for clear upgrades |
| `/nog test` | Preview the panel |
Good to know
- Need or Greed advises only. It never rolls for you, so you stay in control.
- Weapons are compared by item level only.
- Stat comparisons depend on the item information the game provides. When it's not available, it compares item level instead.
- It can't see what other players in your group need. Only Need on gear you'll actually use in your main spec.
- Shift-drag the panel to move it.
Feedback and ideas
Need or Greed is new and actively being improved. If an item gets the wrong advice, please post it in the comments or on the Issues tab, with the item name, your class and role, and the Lua error text if you got one. Ideas are welcome too.
