Description
HunterPetHappiness
Keep your pet happy without watching its portrait.
HunterPetHappiness is a small, clean window for hunters on WoW Forever that shows your pet's mood at a glance and warns you before it drops. An unhappy pet does less damage and can eventually run away, so this keeps that from sneaking up on you.
Open the options with /hph or the minimap button.
Features
At a glance
- Your pet's mood (Happy, Content or Unhappy) with the classic happiness face, color-coded green, yellow or red.
- Time since you last fed your pet.
- Your pet's exact happiness level (0–1000) as a live bar and number. The game doesn't show this anywhere else, so you can see exactly how much each feed, death or dismissal changes it.
- Marks on the bar where your pet turns Content (667) and Unhappy (333), so you can see how close the next drop is.
- A countdown of how much of the usual Happy time is left ("~4:12 left").
It learns your pet
The game shows addons the exact level only for display, so they can't do sums with it. So HunterPetHappiness learns how long a feeding usually keeps your pet Happy, using the typical time from the last five drops, and uses that to predict the next drop. Drops caused by loading screens or battlegrounds (where the game can knock happiness down instantly) are ignored, as are freak readings far shorter than usual, so your baseline stays accurate. The more you play, the better it gets. It remembers across relogs and /reload.
Warnings
- Before it drops: a sound and/or window flash when a set share of the usual Happy time has passed (you choose 30–100%, default 75%).
- When it drops: a sound, flash and/or chat message when happiness goes down.
- Keeps track of pet deaths and dismissals (which cost happiness) and pets left behind on Stay (which don't), and keeps them out of the learned times.
/hph historylists recent changes and whether each was counted. - Choose from 21 built-in game sounds for each warning, and pick which volume slider they follow (SFX, Dialog, Ambience, Music or Master).
- Feeding is picked up automatically when you cast Feed Pet.
Feeding and dismissing
- Feed Pet icon: while your pet is eating, the Feed Pet buff appears just right of the window, with a sweep and the seconds left. Turn it off in the options.
- Pet buffs and debuffs: everything else on your pet shows as a row of small icons under the window, with time left, stack counts and a coloured border on debuffs (magic, poison, curse, disease). Hover an icon for its tooltip. You can hide buffs that never run out, or turn the row off.
- Low-level food check: food well below your pet's level gives much less happiness (17 or 8 per tick instead of 35, going by the food's required level). HunterPetHappiness tells you when the food you just used was too low.
- Cost reminders: Dismiss Pet costs 50 happiness (about 6 minutes of Happy time) and a pet death about 330 (about 40 minutes). Leaving your pet on Stay or walking away from it costs nothing. You'll get a reminder in chat (for dismissing, at most every 10 minutes), which you can turn off.
/hph at <number>: type the number shown on the window and it tells you how long until your pet turns Content and Unhappy.

Getting started
- Log in on your hunter with your pet out. The window appears near the middle of the screen, unlocked.
- Drag it where you want it, then type
/hph lock. - Feed your pet and play as normal. After your pet's happiness has dropped once, the countdown bar starts predicting the next drop.
Notes
- Built for WoW Forever (
## Interface: 16001, 120000). - Only active on Hunters.
- Predictions are learned estimates, based on how long a feeding has lasted for you so far.
How happiness works on WoW Forever
Measured in game:
- Happiness drains about 1 point every 7–7.5 seconds, in and out of combat, resting or not, in any pet stance.
- Feed Pet gives up to 10 ticks over 20 seconds: going by the food's required level (the "Requires Level" line, not its item level): 35 each when it's within 5 levels of your pet, 17 when 6–10 below, 8 when 11 or more below. A good feed adds about 350, roughly 40 minutes.
- Dismiss Pet costs 50. A pet death costs about 330, enough to drop a full pet from Happy to Content. Stay and walking away cost nothing.
- After a death and revive, the happiness number can stay wrong until you
/reload. The mood face is always right. - Right after a summon the game shows a wrong value for a few seconds (often 50 lower) before the real one arrives. HunterPetHappiness waits for it.
- Near the top of the bar (the 900s) your pet is usually fuller than it looks, and most of a feed is wasted. Feed when it's lower.
