Grapevine makes the chat in WoW: Forever readable, and makes it talk back. Every name gets its class, every line its meaning, the noise folds away, the group lines get a button, and one line above the chat tells you what the zone is saying before you see it yourself.
Made for WoW: Forever.
Why Grapevine?
Stand in Ironforge for a minute and General and Trade scroll past faster than you can read them. The group you want is in there somewhere, between six gold sellers and a guild ad. And the rare you were hunting? Someone called it out two minutes ago, and you learn about it when the corpse is gone.
Grapevine reads the chat with you. It changes no font, skin, tab or window. That is what the game and Prat are for. It only makes the lines say more.
Every name, every line
- The game's class icon before every name, in Say, Yell, the channels, party, raid, guild and whispers. The name keeps the game's class colour, and gets one where the game has none. Levels follow the names in gold when the game knows them, and channel names leave out the zone: [1. General].
- A tag on every group, trade and service line, so a glance says what it is: a green LFM or a blue LFG with the dungeon in the colour of its level for you and the roles it needs as icons, WTS or WTB, CRAFT with the profession, SUMMON, PORTAL. The line's own text follows, dimmed. Everything else stays exactly as it was.
The noise folds away
- Gold sellers, boost ads, guild recruitment and link ads are not printed. Once a minute a grey line says how many there were, and its click shows them in a box you can copy from. Nothing is deleted from the game's own chat log.
- Repeats: the same player saying the same line in the same channel within two minutes prints once. The next one after that says how many times, like (x4).
- Lines mostly in another alphabet fold the same way, unless Chat-Translator is installed and switched on. Then it translates them instead.
- Your own lines are never folded.
A button in every group line
- [inv] after an LFM line opens a whisper asking for an invite: "inv - 20 paladin". With Group Up installed it is Group Up's own whisper line, worded your way.
- [w] after an LFG line opens an empty whisper. Ctrl-click [w] invites the player, never in an instance or a raid and never past a full party.
- Nothing is sent until you press Enter, and a second click on the button closes the draft.
The radar line
One line above your chat, only while there is something to say:
- Rares and world bosses someone reported up, with where. Only names on Grapevine's own list count, so a word that only sounds like a rare never fires.
- Groups for an elite quest or an outdoor boss.
- PvP: a Horde or Alliance raid, ganking or camping, with a place.
It shows who said it, where, how long ago, and how many players said the same thing. A click asks the sender "where exactly?" in a whisper you send yourself, and a right-click lists the last ten. Layer lines are there too if you want them (off by default, and left to LayerSwap when it is installed).
Whispers you did not see
- The whisper chip: whispers that came while you were scrolled up, in combat or behind the map wait in a small [W] chip over the chat. Hover it for who and what, click it to reply to the newest.
- Mentioned: your name in a public channel, party, raid or guild plays one soft sound and blinks the edge of the chat twice. Never in combat.
- While you fought: after a fight of a minute or more, one line says what came in it ("24 lines while you fought - 2 LFM for Stocks, 1 rare"), and its click shows the lines.
Features
- Class icons and colours on every name, with levels where the game knows them
- A tag by meaning on LFM, LFG, trade and service lines
- Ads, repeats and other alphabets folded, never without a count
- Quiet NPC speech: an NPC's repeated words print once, and its words are dimmed
- [inv] and [w] buttons in group lines, Ctrl-click to invite
- Money, your loot and reputation in short: coins, item and spell icons, the same item counting up on one line, each rolled item on one line, +25 and the faction for reputation, a skill-up as an arrow, its icon and the new number, and what a level-up gave you
- The radar line for rares, world bosses, elite groups and PvP
- The whisper chip, mentioned and while you fought
- A switch for every part under Options > AddOns > Grapevine
Getting started
- Log in. Grapevine works at once, with every part on except layer lines on the radar.
- Click the Grapevine button on the minimap, or type
/gv, to open the settings. They are also under Options > AddOns > Grapevine. /gv resetputs every switch back./gv statusprints one line of what is running.
Notes
- Nothing is ever sent for you. Every click opens a draft in your chat box, and Enter is yours.
- Nothing about other players is kept after you log out. Grapevine saves its settings and the last answer to its own /gv commands, nothing else.
- Works alongside Group Up, Chat-Translator, LayerSwap, Questie and Leatrix Plus. With Group Up the [inv] whisper is your Group Up line, Chat-Translator's translations are left as they are, and LayerSwap keeps the layer lines.
- The game's own icons, sounds and tooltip frames, so it looks like part of Forever.
