OLEDGuard keeps an OLED screen safe from World of Warcraft's interface, without you ever noticing it is there. The action bars, minimap and unit frames dim when you stop playing, the whole screen turns black when you walk away, and everything is back the instant you touch the mouse.
Works on Retail, WoW Forever and Classic Era.
Why OLEDGuard?
An OLED panel ages each pixel by how bright it is and for how long. World of Warcraft draws the same action bars, the same minimap and the same health bars in the same place for hours, and those are exactly the shapes that can stay behind as a faint shadow. A good OLED screen is expensive, and protection that makes the game look worse would defeat the point of buying one. So OLEDGuard only acts when you are not looking.
Idle fade
- When the keyboard and mouse have been still for a minute, the action bars, minimap, unit frames, buffs and quest tracker dim to a quarter of their brightness over three seconds.
- They are back the instant you move, in a fifth of a second.
- The fade waits while you read a tooltip, have a window or your bags open, or type in chat. It never happens in combat or in Edit Mode.
- The delay, the dimmed brightness and both fade times can be changed, and the chat windows can be included.
AFK screen
- After five minutes without input, or ten seconds after you flag yourself AFK, the whole screen turns black with a small clock that drifts around.
- On an OLED panel a black pixel is a pixel that is switched off, so nothing is left burning while you are away.
- Any input brings everything back at once, and whispers, queue pops, ready checks and invites wake the screen for you.
- It stays away during cinematics and on flight paths.
Pixel shift
- The whole interface moves two pixels along a small circle, so no pixel keeps the exact same job for hours.
- By default it only moves behind a loading screen or under the black AFK screen, where the step cannot be seen.
- The distance and interval can be changed, and it can be set to step while you play as well.
Settings
- Escape, Options, AddOns, OLEDGuard holds a switch or slider for everything. Each change is confirmed with a line in chat, and the brightness, fade times and shift distance are previewed behind the panel while you adjust them.
- A minimap button opens the settings. Shift-click turns the addon on and off, right-click opens a short menu, and the button can be hidden; it stays reachable from the addon compartment.
- The same controls are available from chat with /oled. /oled test and /oled afk show the fade and the black screen right away.
What it never touches
- No graphics settings, no console variables, no driver or monitor settings, no keybindings. OLEDGuard changes the brightness of interface frames and draws its own black screen, and when you turn it off everything is exactly as it was.
- It saves its own settings and nothing else.
OLEDGuard is free and stays free. If you would like to support the work: https://ko-fi.com/adam5288
