Typestones

Letter and picture blocks, for floor, walls and ceilings, made by a Typewriter

Description

Typestones

Smooth stone blocks that carry a letter, digit or sign on all six sides, and picture stones that together show an image. A Typewriter makes them, and a Pencil puts them into the world.

Typestones

  • Any character of any font installed on your computer, in any script, at 16, 32 or 64 pixels: regular, bold, italic or bold italic. A built-in classic face works without choosing a font.
  • Letter color and background color from all 16 dyes; without background dye the stone keeps the smooth stone look.
  • Top and bottom follow the placement direction, so text reads right on walls, floors and ceilings.
  • A broken stone drops itself with its letter and colors.
  • No crafting recipes per letter, so the recipe book and JEI/REI/EMI stay clean.

The Typewriter

Type a line of up to 128 characters, set a letter dye and optionally a background dye, and press Start.

  • One stone every 5 ticks, repeated up to 64 times
  • Takes smooth stone and dyes from inventories on any side, puts finished stones into the inventory at its back
  • Buttons for A–Z, 0–9 and every character of the chosen font
  • Font preview with scale and baseline settings
  • Letters baked by players are kept in the world and sent to everyone who sees them

The Pencil

The Typewriter's Pencil button makes a pencil from a stick and a smooth stone. It lays the last line or picture stone by stone, straight from the Typewriter's output.

  • Click the last stone to go on to its right, click elsewhere for a new row, sneak-click to take the last stone back
  • Picture pencils build up row by row from the bottom left, like a wall
  • Choose with ▲▼ or the mouse wheel which line or picture the next pencil is for
  • An empty pencil goes back into the Typewriter's input and is refilled for free
  • Throw an empty pencil away and it bursts into a tiny firework in its colors

Pictures

With Billboard API or CC: Tweaked, a program can have the Typewriter type an image as picture stones.

  • PNG, JPEG or GIF (first frame), up to 8 × 8 stones by default
  • Fit, fill or stretch, for a wall, a floor or a ceiling
  • Each picture stone costs one smooth stone and one RGB dye (black, white, red, green and blue dye make 8)
  • Picture stones show the image from both sides and name the image they belong to
  • A program claims the Typewriter while it works; the Typewriter's screen shows "Program in control"

Without Billboard API or CC: Tweaked, the RGB dye and its recipe stay hidden.

Requirements

  • Minecraft 26.3, Fabric Loader, Fabric API
  • Needed on client and server
  • Optional: Billboard API or CC: Tweaked (pictures), Mod Menu (settings screen)
