Skyseed

A terraforming skyblock mod. Craft a Skyseed, throw it into open air, and ~2 seconds later a procedurally generated, themed sky island germinates where it comes to rest. Progression is driven by exploration + crafting, not block-condensing.

Skyseed

Terraform the sky, one seed at a time.

Skyseed is a skyblock where you don't grind your way wider — you grow the world outward. Craft a Skyseed, throw it into the open air, and seconds later it germinates into a brand-new, procedurally generated floating island. Every throw is a new piece of world: trees, ore, water, whole biomes, villages, dungeons — blooming out of nothing.

You begin on a small starter island with a single tree. From there, exploration and crafting drive your progress — each new island gives you the blocks to craft the next, more ambitious one.

How it works

  1. Craft a Skyseed. Different recipes make different seeds — dirt + planks for a Forest, stone + cobblestone for a Rocky, snow + ice for a Frozen, and so on. Each is its own item, so they're easy to find in JEI/REI.
  2. Throw it. Hold right-click to wind up, release to launch.
  3. Watch it grow. After a moment the seed germinates and an island grows in before your eyes.
  4. Harvest, then craft the next seed. Rinse, repeat, and build your archipelago across the sky.

No two islands are ever the same — every one is rolled fresh within its theme, so you never paste the same blob twice.

Throw it your way

A toggle keybind (default V) switches between two throw modes — your choice is remembered:

  • Classic — a charged toss. A light tap drops the island close; a full charge sends it sailing.
  • Precise — direct placement. The island appears exactly where you're looking, at a distance set by how long you charge. Perfect for laying out a tidy sky-base.

Eleven terrain islands to discover

Each Skyseed grows its own kind of island, with multiple looks and hidden surprises — and every one has a bigger, pricier Large variant with a thematic twist:

  • 🌿 Forest — the starter. Grass, flowers, and trees that match wherever you throw it.
  • ⛰️ Rocky — the miner's island. Every ore is here, and where you throw it matters: low throws strike deepslate, diamonds and redstone; mid throws an iron-and-copper haul; high throws bring coal and iron — and the highest become snow-capped peaks. (Large Rocky is a tall, emerald-bearing mountain.)
  • 🏜️ Desert — sand and sandstone, cacti and dead bushes, with clay and buried fossils below. Throw it over a badlands for red dunes. (Large: an oasis.)
  • 🍄 Mushroom — a mycelium isle crowned with giant red and brown mushrooms. Mobs won't spawn here — a safe place to build.
  • ❄️ Frozen — snow and ice, packed ice and rare blue ice… and hidden powder-snow pockets to watch your step around. (Large: a frozen lake.)
  • 🌸 Meadow — the flower island. Every dye-flower, towering sunflowers, cherry blossoms, and bee nests tucked among the blooms.
  • 🪨 Badlands — a mesa in the sky, its cliffs banded in layers of orange, yellow, white, red, and brown terracotta, and rich with gold. (Large: a towering mesa.)
  • 🏛️ Ancient — a shard of the deep underground hung in the air: deepslate and tuff, amethyst geodes, dripstone teeth, and a rare deep-dark variant bristling with sculk.
  • 🌿 Lush — a cave garden afloat. Moss, azalea trees, dripleaves, and glow-berry vines trailing off the underside. (Large: a deep pool with glow squid.)
  • 🌊 Aquatic — half land, half floating lake: kelp and lily pads, warm-water coral reefs, mangroves, and clay-and-gravel banks. (Large: a proper deep lake.)

Grow a village

Build the trading economy a seed at a time — each tier assembled by the same jigsaw machinery vanilla villages use, so no two look alike:

  • 🏡 Hamlet — a single cottage and a villager to get you started.
  • 🏪 Trade Post — a lantern-lit plaza ringed by shops; each villager settles into its own trade.
  • Village Center — a bell-topped plaza with four trading halls, a villager of all 13 professions, and an iron golem on guard. (Raids are disabled on Skyseed worlds, so your villagers are safe.)

Start an animal farm

Dedicated farm islands, each a fenced enclosure with a guaranteed pack of animals inside:

  • 🌾 Pasture — a breeding pair of cows, sheep or pigs.
  • 🐔 Poultry — a walled coop of chickens.
  • 🐑 Wool Farm — a flock of sheep in assorted colours.
  • 🐴 Stable — horses and donkeys, plus a chest that might hold a saddle.
  • 🐠 Aquarium — a glass tank of turtles, axolotls, fish and a squid.

Raid a structure

Loot-and-encounter islands lifted from the overworld's dungeons and ruins:

  • ⚔️ Dungeon — a sealed cobblestone cube with a mob spawner and two loot chests (the music discs Cat and 13 among them).
  • 🪨 Ruined Portal — a broken Nether-portal frame and a chest of golden spoils — your only source of crying obsidian up here.
  • 🏺 Desert Temple — a sealed chamber, four treasure chests, and a buried cache of TNT.
  • 🌿 Jungle Temple — a mossy puzzle room with two chests and an arrow dispenser.
  • 🧙 Witch Hut — a swamp hut with a witch and a cat for the taking.

A living, biome-aware world

Islands respond to where you throw them. A Forest seed over a savanna grows acacia; over a jungle, jungle trees; over an ocean, a little lake island. Throw a Desert over a badlands and it turns red. The sky is a full, varied biome map — your islands take after their surroundings.

And on the mining islands, altitude matters: throw them deep for the richest treasure, high for coal and iron.

Just about every block you'd dig up in a normal world has a home here — so whatever you're building, there's an island that grows it.

Your field guide

Every world comes with the Skyfarer's Almanac, an in-game guidebook. It always shows you how to craft each seed — and once you've made one, it unlocks that island's field notes so you can learn its secrets as you go. (You can turn any single Skyseed back into the book at a crafting table, so you'll never lose your way.)

Install Patchouli for the full illustrated edition; without it, the Almanac is a plain written book with the essentials.

Getting started

  • Chop your starting tree and dig the island for dirt and planks.
  • Craft your first Forest Skyseed and throw it into the open air to grow your second island.
  • Open the Skyfarer's Almanac for every recipe, and go build a sky.

Requirements

  • Minecraft 1.21.1
  • NeoForge
  • Patchoulioptional, for the illustrated guidebook (the mod plays fine without it).

Skyseed is actively developed — more structures, creatures, and dimensions are on the way. Feedback and bug reports are very welcome! Add-on makers: every seed is a normal item in the #skyseed:skyseeds tag, and islands are pure datapack JSON, so new seeds are easy to bolt on.
