Description

Skyseed
A grow-your-own skyblock, plus a handful of quality-of-life mods to make a long playthrough comfortable. Nothing more added.
At the heart of this pack is Skyseed, a skyblock mod where you grow your world instead of mining it. You craft a seed, throw it into open air, and a couple of seconds later it sprouts a floating island stocked with whatever that seed grows: trees, ore, a pond, a village, a dungeon. You start on a small island with one tree and grow your world out across the sky, into the Nether, and on to the End.
What's added around it is a small, deliberately chosen set of quality-of-life mods, with no new blocks, no new items, and no new mobs. Just the tools that make a long skyblock nicer to play. Everything you grow is still plain vanilla, so it all just works: the recipe viewer lists every seed, the map fills in as your archipelago spreads, and vein mining fells a whole tree in one swing.
Where Skyseed came from
Most skyblocks follow a similar pattern. Grow trees, compost dirt, and build all your real estate out of wood and stone. Nothing wrong with that, of course, but I wanted something different. What if you could combine your skyblock with some exploration? What if you could just take an island-shaped bit of the overworld generation?
This is where Skyseed came from. I soon realized I couldn't use the overworld generation itself, but I could use the overworld biomes. So the next best plan was to pick up whichever biome is on the overworld where your seed lands, and build a custom island to reflect it. Hopefully it combines the coziness of a skyblock with the exploration options of a normal world.
What's in it
- Just Enough Items (JEI) is the recipe viewer. Every Skyseed recipe shows up in it, so you can look up how to craft any seed without leaving the game.
- Jade is a "what am I looking at" tooltip. Point at anything and it tells you the block and the tool you need to break it.
- Xaero's Minimap + World Map map the void for you. Drop a waypoint on each island you grow and you can always find your way back across all that empty sky.
- Vein Mining lets you hold a key while you break an ore or a log to bring the whole vein or tree down at once. It only ever grabs ores and logs, so it can't mine the island out from under you, and it costs a little hunger so you can't rely on it endlessly.
- AppleSkin puts food and saturation values on the HUD, so you can see exactly what a meal is worth.
- Performance mods: Embeddium, FerriteCore, ModernFix, EntityCulling, FPS Reducer and Clumps. They give you smoother frames and lower memory use without changing how anything plays.
- Small comforts: Mouse Tweaks and Controlling tidy up the inventory and keybind screens, and Fast Leaf Decay stops a felled tree from leaving leaves hanging in the air.
- Patchouli powers Skyseed's illustrated Skyfarer's Almanac (without it, the guidebook falls back to a plain written book).
The idea
Keep Skyseed exactly as it is, and just make it smoother to play. Nothing here changes the islands you grow or the order you grow them in. It only makes the hours in between easier, with less time spent hunting recipes, getting lost in the void, or chopping the same tree block by block.
Coming soon, a bigger adventure built on the same seeds, with tech, magic, farming and automation: Skyseed: Grow Your Own World.
Requirements
- Minecraft 1.21.1
- NeoForge
For single-player, just install the pack and go. If you host a server, the client-only mods (the maps, JEI, Jade, the performance and control mods) can sit on the client alone, though there's no harm in running everything everywhere.
Skyseed and this pack are by gemberkoekje. Bug reports and feedback for the mod itself go to the issues page.
