Skyseed - Grow your own world

Craft a seed, throw it into the empty sky, and a whole floating island grows where it lands — ore, trees, villages, dungeons. Start with one island and grow your way to a world of Create machines, magic and automated farms.

Skyseed: Grow Your Own World

A whole modpack grown from a single seed.

At the centre is Skyseed, a skyblock mod where you grow your world instead of mining it. You begin on one small floating island in an otherwise empty sky. Craft a seed, throw it into open air, and a couple of seconds later it sprouts a brand-new island: trees, ore, ponds, a village, a dungeon, all themed and generated fresh from whatever that seed grows. Island by island, you spread out across the sky, into the Nether, and on to the End.

Grow Your Own World is where those islands go to work. Every island you grow feeds a bigger project: a Create factory, an Immersive Engineering plant, an Applied Energistics network, a Mystical Agriculture farm, a working kitchen, a spellbook. A guided quest book walks you through them one system at a time. There are well over a hundred mods here, but you meet each one at the pace the islands unlock it.

Where Skyseed came from

Most skyblocks follow a similar pattern. Grow trees, compost dirt, and build all your real estate out of wood and stone. Nothing wrong with that, of course, but I wanted something different. What if you could combine your skyblock with some exploration? What if you could just take an island-shaped bit of the overworld generation?

This is where Skyseed came from. I soon realized I couldn't use the overworld generation itself, but I could use the overworld biomes. So the next best plan was to pick up whichever biome is on the overworld where your seed lands, and build a custom island to reflect it. Hopefully it combines the coziness of a skyblock with the exploration options of a normal world.

You won't need the wiki open

The pack ships an FTB quest book split into four tracks: Progression, Industry, Farming, and Magic & Exploration. Each quest is short and written in plain language. It tells you what a mod does, why you'd want it, and where to start.

It won't force you down one path. Several chapters are open at once, and most tasks just ask you to go and fetch something rather than lock the next step behind them. The deeper detail stays in each mod's own in-game guide, like Create's Ponder or the Skyfarer's Almanac.

What you'll build

Industry

  • Create, with a deep set of add-ons, is the mod most of the pack is built around. Rotational contraptions, trains, jetpacks, decoration, and plenty more. It's bridged to Forge Energy, so the power you make with Create runs the rest of the pack's machines.
  • Immersive Engineering + Petroleum is the heavy-industry side. Multiblock machines, a coke-oven-to-blast-furnace steel chain, an excavator, and a diesel plant that runs on crude oil you pump and refine.
  • Applied Energistics 2 + MEGA Cells handles storage, from your first few drives to a network that holds everything. It starts with certus quartz you mine yourself, and a dedicated Meteorite island is the only place up here to get sky stone and the inscriber presses that AE2 normally hides inside meteorites.
  • Flux Networks moves power wirelessly, so one grid can feed every island without cables strung across the void.

Farming

  • Mystical Agriculture lets you grow resources as crops. Iron, diamond, even mob drops become farmable once you've seeded them, so nothing stays a one-time find.
  • Farmer's Delight, plus its Nether, End and Ocean add-ons, is a full cooking loop that runs from wild crops on your biome islands up to a stocked kitchen.

Magic & exploration

  • Iron's Spells 'n Spellbooks gives you spellbooks, scrolls and spell gear, looted from the structure islands you grow and cast from your own mana pool. Artifacts and Relics add curios and trinkets to find along the way.

World & tools

  • Oh The Biomes We've Gone adds more than fifty biomes, and they feed straight into how islands are themed. Grow a seed over one of them and you get that biome's island, with its own woods and even its own village styles.
  • Silent Gear lets you build tools and weapons from the materials you grow, and upgrade them as you go.
  • Sophisticated Backpacks & Storage gives you upgradeable, filterable storage to keep your inventory under control.
  • Quark is a big grab-bag of building blocks, decoration and small quality-of-life tweaks.
  • Waystones and Xaero's maps cover fast travel and mapping, which you'll want once your archipelago spreads out.

Looks & feel

  • Complementary Reimagined shaders (on by default), Fresh Animations, ambient sounds, and sound physics fill out the look and feel of all that open sky. If your machine struggles with shaders, you can switch them off from the video menu.

Everything still comes from an island

The void never generates anything on its own. Every mod's resources reach you through a seed instead: certus quartz from the mining islands, bauxite from an Immersive Engineering ore island, wild crops from the biome islands, spell loot inside the structure islands. Nothing turns up in the sky uninvited. You grow your way to all of it, in the same order you grew your first tree.

Requirements

  • Minecraft 1.21.1
  • NeoForge
  • It's a big pack and ships with shaders on, so give it a generous amount of memory and a GPU that can handle shaders (or turn them off in the video settings).

Want something lighter? The Skyseed pack is the same mod with just a curated set of quality-of-life mods and no added content. It's the plain skyblock with the rough edges smoothed off.
