Shield Expansion
Shield Expansion is a mod that aims to make combat in Minecraft more engaging and skilful by rebalancing shields.
The mod adds traditional tiers to shields and introduces two new mechanics, Off-Guard Cooldown and Parrying!Off-Guard Cooldown
Off-Guard Cooldown means any attack that hits a shield will put it into a state of cooldown (the length of which is dependant on the shield tier), forcing you to either go on the offensive or make better use of defensive manoeuvring. You also go into this cooldown if you lower the shield, too.
Parrying
Parrying an attack, done by raising your shield just before an attack hits you, allows you to bypass Off-Guard Cooldown, rewarding skilful timing and use of your shield. You shove melee attackers back and deflect enemy projectiles upon a successful Parry, too!
Pushing an enemy with a wooden or golden shield will deal no damage, but doing so with any other will result in a Parry-Bash, dealing the enemy back a percentage of the damage they would have dealt you! This percentage increases the higher the shield tier is, but the opportunity window to parry at all shrinks.
Compatibility
Shield Expansion has native compatibility with our other mod, Mining Master! With it, you can upgrade your Diamond Shield into the elusive and powerful Paragon Shield!
Or, if complete blast resistance is more your style, perhaps you may prefer the build-in combability we added for Team Abnormals' Savage and Ravage!
Besides that, we went to the effort of programming the mod in such a way so that SE's attributes apply to all shields from all other mods! Said attributes can be tweaked to your liking with a handy-dandy datapack, whilst basic functionality for all shields can be tweaked in the config!
I'd also highly suggest pairing this mod with Combat Roll!
Looking for something similar to this mod on Fabric? Check out Cammie's Combat Tweaks, or Guarding!
Want a resource pack to bring your tools and armour up to snuff alongside your fancy new shields?
Neko's Enhanced Tools and Armor pairs great with Shield Expansion!
We hope you enjoy Shield Expansion! If you have any feedback, critique or ideas, please let us know! :D
It would be really cool if you make this mod compatible with Enigmatic Legacy shield
1.19.3 would of been nice, but oh well.
Suggestions: Stamina should depend on damage. Some mobs hit harder than others but stamina always lets u block the same amount of attacks (1 attack for wooden shield, 3 attacks for diamond and 4 for netherite etc). Also, for those who like noloweringCooldown, stamina should not reset after lowering the shield. Maybe the % of stamina left starts to regen after some time.
If an axe disables a shield it should add more cooldown.
Config or some sort of support for changing shield`s stats (stamina, cooldown, movement and parry window) that would be very good for personal preference and modpack making.
Really good mod, I love the textures
Note: After some rading I noticed datapack support for changing shields stats is already a thing, my bad
Second note: I cant get datapacks to work data/shieldexp/minecraft/shields and then shield.json should work for vanilla shield right?

Stamina already depends on damage dealt! I realize it's very unclear at the moment, whenever I get to work on the next content update I'll make sure to include some kind of guide that clears these things up
Is this compatible with YDM's Weapons Master mod?
In reply to terragamza720:
I don't know that mod, so you'll have to try!
Will there ever be 1.19.3 compatibility? I have a huge personal modpack that this mod is perfect for
In reply to terragamza720:
Oh, I just saw the other comment. Is playing with 1.19.4 mods on 1.19.3 version possible?
In reply to terragamza720:
Never mind about all this, found some other mods that are currently only 1.19.2, so it'll be easy to play on 1.19.2 than 1.19.3
Hello. Will there be a new version of the mod for Minecraft 1.16.5?
In reply to azumge:
Yes there will, most likely very soon
Please, is there a plan to be Tetra compatible?
Hello dev team! I reported a ticket over to you guys on GitHub regarding a concern via one of the mods on my mod-pack for 1.18.2; I'd really appreciate it if you can honor the time to investigate the issue, please and thank you!
In reply to cixon:

In reply to cixon:
Yeah sorry I've been very busy with university, I'll get it uploaded tomorrow!
In reply to tinytransfem:

In reply to cosmic999x:
Currently not planning on updating to 1.19.3, especially since 1.19.4 is right around the corner
do you have compatibility for upgraded netherite?
In reply to lotusdrive:
Not yet, but it's something I want to do down the line
