Player Remains

Stores your inventory in persistent player remains after death, with safe item recovery and support for Trinkets, NETS, Accessories and more.

Player Remains

Player Remains is an independently developed death-inventory mod for Minecraft 1.20.1 Fabric.

When a player dies, their items are safely stored inside persistent remains instead of being dropped normally. Player Remains preserves the vanilla inventory as well as supported modded equipment slots, providing a safe and reliable way to recover equipment after death.

Features

  • Persistent Remains — Player remains are created at the death location and safely store the player's items.
  • Player Appearance — Remains use the deceased player's skin and support different player scales.
  • Retrieve All — Quickly recover all available items.
  • Safe Equipment Restoration — Equipment automatically returns to an appropriate slot whenever possible.
  • Occupied Slot Protection — If an equipment slot is already occupied, the recovered item is moved to the normal inventory instead of replacing the currently equipped item.
  • Full Inventory Protection — If an item cannot be equipped and the player's inventory is full, it remains safely stored.
  • Multiple Remains — Multiple deaths can create separate remains without overwriting previous ones.
  • Death History — Press U to view your death history and locate active remains.
  • Physics — Remains fall naturally and react to water and lava.
  • Owner Protection — Newly created remains can be temporarily restricted to their owner.
  • Skeleton Transformation — Remains can automatically transform into skeletons after a configurable delay.
  • Public Skeleton Access — After transformation, the skeleton can become accessible to other players, making the system suitable for multiplayer and PvP servers.
  • Persistent Skeletons — Skeletonized remains preserve their stored items across server restarts and chunk reloads.
  • Optional Expiration — Timed removal can be enabled separately. Any remaining items are safely dropped before the entity is removed.
  • Safe Expiration Handling — If the inventory is open when the configured lifetime expires, the container is automatically closed before the remaining items are dropped.
  • Automatic Empty Removal — Empty remains and skeletons can be removed automatically after all stored items have been recovered.
  • Configurable Behavior — Skeleton timing, expiration, owner protection, Trinkets capture, separation distance and other behavior can be configured.
  • Optional Mod Menu Support — When Mod Menu is installed, an in-game configuration screen becomes available.
  • Optional Jade Support — When Jade is installed, health hearts are hidden only for Player Remains entities while remaining visible for players, mobs and other entities.

Remains and Skeleton Behavior

By default, newly created remains are protected for 60 seconds.

After the configured delay:

  • The remains visually transform into a skeleton.
  • The same stored inventory is preserved.
  • The skeleton becomes publicly accessible.
  • The skeleton remains in the world while it still contains items.
  • The transformation does not create a second inventory or transfer the stored items to another entity.

Timed expiration is disabled by default and works independently from skeleton transformation.

If expiration is enabled, the remains or skeleton stay available until the configured lifetime ends. Any items still stored inside are safely dropped before the entity is removed.

Compatibility

Player Remains includes compatibility with several modded inventory and equipment systems:

  • Trinkets — Equipped Trinkets are captured and safely restored to compatible slots.
  • Not Enough Trinket Slots (NETS) — Supports additional and dynamically expanded Trinkets slots.
  • Cosmetic Armor [FABRIC] — Cosmetic equipment is preserved across death.
  • Accessories — Accessories equipment is captured and restored safely.
  • The Aether — Supports Aether equipment handled through Accessories, including gloves.
  • Traveler's Backpack — Equipped backpacks using supported inventory systems are preserved together with the player's other items.
  • MCA Reborn — Modrinth / CurseForge — Player scale changes are reflected correctly on both normal and skeletonized remains.
  • Carry On — Player Remains entities are protected from being picked up through Carry On.
  • Mod Menu — Provides an optional in-game configuration screen.
  • Jade — Hides the health display specifically for Player Remains entities.

All integrations listed above are optional and are automatically used when the corresponding mods are installed.

Item Safety

Player Remains is designed to avoid overwriting, duplicating or deleting equipment during recovery.

  • Vanilla equipment attempts to return to its appropriate slot.
  • Trinkets equipment can use another compatible empty slot when the original dynamic slot is no longer available.
  • Accessories equipment attempts to return to its corresponding equipment slot.
  • If a target equipment slot is occupied, the recovered item is moved to the player's normal inventory when space is available.
  • If no compatible equipment slot or inventory space is available, the item remains safely stored.
  • If the remains expire while their inventory is open, the container is closed before the remaining items are dropped.
