Better Fishtanks 

Welcome to Better Fishtanks. This mod Adds... well as the name suggests Fish tanks... They can be decorated with many different Things (even some form other mods). We took a little different approach then the fully decorative Fishtank, but you can disable all non-essential features in the Config :)  

Please Note: This mod focuses on the tanks. It does not add new fish on its own. It is designed to be the perfect companion for other mods that do! Also, we might have something that adds a couple new Fishies to your game coming up soon :) 

✨ Features ✨

🔧 Functional Aquariums

• Our Fishtanks work a little Different from your standard Glass box. The fish kept in them need Food to survive but in return will produce Fish eggs that can be used to gain resources. 
  
  
• Aquarist Table: The Aquarist table is your crafting station for almost everything that goes inside the Fishtank and everything that comes out of the Fishtank. U can use it to Craft Decoration & Fish food. It can also be used to Crack the Eggs the Fish produce to gain more or less valuable resources. 

👜 Fish Management

• Fish Bags: Safely transport your fish (vanilla or modded) from one location to another.
  
  
• Random Fish Bags: Feeling lucky? Try a random fish bag to get a surprise vanilla fish!

🌿 Decorations and More

• There is a Wide range of Decorations for your fishtanks. You can either use vanilla stuff like seagrass, corals, amethysts or kelp or craft some custom stuff inside the Aquarist table. We also added support for Corals and other stuff from both Upgrade Aquatic and Hybrid Aquatic. 
  
  
• Mini Shrimp: Mini Shrimp are a little addition to the Fish food system. They can be caught when fishing and can be crafted into a highly saturating fish food.
  
  
• Pellet Mix: A simple Craftable Fish food that will keep your fish fed for way longer. 

How to Add Fish to Your Fishtank

The fish bag is your only way to pickup fish and release them back into the Fishtank. Simply grab a Fishbag, right-click on any catchable fish in the world and the fish will be safely stored inside the bag. The bag's texture will update to indicate it's no longer empty. Then release it into the Fishtank by shift-right-clicking on it. If you want to release the stored entity anywhere else simply shift-right-click at your target location. 

Oh, and also, please fill your Fishtanks with water before, yes BEFORE!!! trying to release a fish into it... they need that stuff to survive... 

✨Gameplay Details✨

🥫 Food Containers

• Container Store food in a more compressed way so you don't have to feed your fish manually every Day.
  Also since that is a common concern: the feeding system is very generous so you will have no issue with your fish starving as long as you use one of the more filling fish foods, even if you aren't at your base for a couple of days. Additionally, there is a warning Popup if your fish are starving. 
  
  
• The containers can be Placed and picked up and will stack up to 9 per block

🥚 Fish Eggs

• The Fishtanks passively produce Fish Eggs
• They come in six rarity tiers: Common, Uncommon, Rare, Epic, Exotic, and Legendary.
• These Eggs can be cracked open into useful loot within the Aquarist's Table

🧑‍🌾 The Aquarist Villager

• Find a new Aquarist villager! They will trade you for various fish-keeping supplies, including fish food and some Decorations for your tank. Build an Aquarist Table near an unemployed villager to assign them this profession or find them in Plains Villages.

⚙️ Tech Mod Support (Create, etc.)

• Better fishtanks should be Compatible with most common Tech / automation Mods.
• The Fish Tank and Aquarist Table inventories are fully accessible. Use pipes or item transfer systems from mods like Create to automatically insert or extract items.
• You can also use fluid pipes to fill your tanks with water, making the filling process for Larger Aquariums Easier.

📖 JEI Integration

• All recipes Better Fishtanks add can be viewed in JEI this includes everything that can be crafted with the Aquarists table. 

🔥 Nether Depths Upgrade & Lava Fishtanks Now supported! 

• Fishtanks can now be filled with lava to support mods like Nether Depths Upgrade!
• The seagrass and Kelp from Nether Depths Upgrade can now be Used as Decor items when Nether Depths Upgrade is installed

⚙️ Config Options

• Feeding System: Toggle Require Food to determine if fish need to be fed to survive. When enabled, you must use Food Containers to keep your fish alive, or you can disable it for a purely aesthetic, low-maintenance aquarium.
• Custom UI Units: Choose how water levels are displayed in your Tank UI, with support for Percent, Buckets, or Millibuckets (mB) for better compatibility with tech mods.
• Advanced Captures: Enable the Fish Bag to capture specialized mobs like Drowned, Guardians, or Whales (Warning: Large fish may eat smaller tank mates!).
• Rendering Modes: Toggle between Vanilla Waterlogging or the new EXPERIMENTAL Entity Rendering system to change how water looks inside your custom tanks.

Is this mod compatible with other fish mods

While we haven't tested with every mod, Better Fishtanks should be compatible with most mods that add new fish. You can add any fish to our tanks!

How can I put a Fish inside the Tank? 

Shift Right-click the tank with a Fish bag that has a fish in it!

 Can I use this mod in my modpack?

Absolutely! We'd be honored. All we ask is that you credit us and provide a link back to this CurseForge page.
