Wayfarer's Rest
Make room by the fire.
Wayfarer's Rest is a camping companion in development exclusively for World of Warcraft: Forever. It brings your camping-related profession information, carried materials, player observations and shareable location reports together in one illustrated window.
Whether you are checking what your character can contribute or preparing a message for fellow adventurers, the addon helps you review the information available to your character and choose your next action yourself.
Early Beta status: Version 0.15.0 is a partial Beta intended for real-client feedback. The code, logic and installation archive have been checked offline, but the addon has not yet been validated in the Forever client. Automatic camp detection is disabled, and the features below remain subject to client testing.
Main Features
- An illustrated camping window with six dedicated views.
- A freely movable campfire opening button.
- Player position, profession and beneficial-aura snapshots.
- Camping recipes from your currently open own profession view.
- Readable recipe requirements, output items, cooldowns and charges.
- Carried-material counts and calculated recipe shortfalls.
- Explicit recipe navigation and guarded item-use requests.
- Copyable full reports and compact chat-sized reports.
- Optional existing user waypoint links and camping-related player effects.
- Manual General-channel and whisper draft preparation.
- Window scaling, saved positions and Blizzard addon options.
- A bounded, copyable session log for troubleshooting.
One Window for Your Camping Preparations
The main window uses an original forest campsite background, a campfire emblem and dark reading areas to keep information separate from the artwork. Scrollable lists and detail panels provide room for longer names and larger recipe selections.
The six views are:
- Overview: player location, camp-status information and limited camping-related player hints.
- Professions: readable profession names and skill information.
- Contributions: camping recipes, requirements, materials, outputs and available actions.
- Player Buffs: beneficial player auras and selected camping-related effect references.
- Report: copyable previews and deliberate chat-draft preparation.
- Session Log: client details, data-reading status and diagnostic information.
Profession Contributions and Materials
Open one of your own professions in Blizzard's profession window, then visit Contributions. Wayfarer's Rest uses verified camping-category references to identify relevant recipes from the current recipe list.
Depending on the data exposed by the client, a contribution can show:
- Recipe name, icon and learned or unlearned status.
- Reported requirements and readable reasons why a recipe is unavailable.
- Recipe cooldown, charges and daily-reset information when supplied.
- The reported output item and its carried count.
- Required materials and recipe quantities.
- Materials currently carried in your inventory.
- The calculated difference between required and carried materials.
Blizzard's search and filter settings can limit the recipes shown. Linked, guild and NPC profession sources are not treated as your own learned recipe collection.
Material comparisons use carried inventory; bank stock is not included as immediately available material. Counts are evaluated for each recipe and are not reservations across several planned contributions. Reported quantities and shortfalls do not confirm actual consumption, cost modifiers or placement requirements.
Deliberate Recipe and Item Actions
Use Select to inspect a contribution and its available actions.
- Open Recipe requests the selected eligible recipe in Blizzard's profession window. You decide whether to craft there.
- Use Item can request use of a matching carried camping output when the required data is readable and the action is allowed outside combat.
Selection, reference matches, carried stock, usability and item cooldown information are checked before an eligible item request. Missing or conflicting information can keep an action unavailable.
A request is not confirmation of a completed craft, successful placement or consumed item. Targeting and placement remain player-controlled, and actual secure-action behavior must be verified in the Forever client. Opening the window or refreshing data does not automatically craft or use an item.
Player Buffs and Camping-Related Hints
Player Buffs displays readable beneficial effects on your character, including stack counts and remaining duration at the time of the snapshot when available. Selected camping-related effects also have build-specific reference descriptions.
The addon distinguishes an observed player effect from an unknown or unavailable result. A buff on your character does not establish which camp supplied it, whether that camp still offers it, or what another player will receive.
Overview includes a small set of camping-related player hints. These hints do not establish a reliable camp identity, entry, exit or exact camp location. The overall camp state remains unconfirmed, and automatic camp opening and closing are disabled in this Beta.
Location Reports and Chat Drafts
The Report view provides a detailed report for copying and a Short Report designed for a single chat message. Use Select All and copy the preview when you want to use it elsewhere.
Optional report content includes readable player buff names, selected camping-related player effects and your existing user waypoint. These options are off initially. Player position, user waypoint and player effects remain separately labelled.
- Player position describes your character's readable location; it is not presented as an exact camp coordinate.
- User waypoint refers to a pin you already have. The addon does not create or replace your map pin.
- Native waypoint links are included only when readable and suitable for the report. A link that cannot fit is omitted as a whole with an explanatory notice.
Prepare General checks the current area's General channel instead of assuming a fixed channel number. Prepare Whisper uses the recipient you explicitly enter.
Both actions prepare a draft. Review the recipient and message, then press Enter yourself to send or Escape to cancel. Existing drafts are preserved where they can be checked safely; otherwise preparation is refused. No automatic public posting or repeated background advertising is performed.
Snapshots and Clear Data Status
Displayed information is a snapshot. It refreshes when opening a view, through supported events or when you choose Refresh. Displayed durations and cooldowns are not continuous countdowns.
Unreadable information stays explicitly unknown, partial, restricted or unavailable. Unknown material counts are not shown as zero, and missing effect data is not treated as proof that an effect is absent.
Movement, world changes, combat and closing relevant views discard observations when their context is no longer suitable. Repeated refresh requests are grouped to limit unnecessary work. Player-data observation pauses while the window is closed or only Session Log is visible.
Settings, Controls and Combat Behavior
Move the camping window and the opening button to a convenient position. The button is freely positioned on the screen rather than attached to the minimap.
- Left-click the campfire button to open or close the main window.
- Right-click it to access the addon's Blizzard options.
- Adjust the window scale from 75% to 150%.
- Show or hide the button and lock its position.
- Restore reachable window and button positions through the reset controls.
Window and button positions and display settings are saved. The main window closes when combat begins and does not reopen automatically when combat ends. Actual positioning, readability and persistence remain part of the client test plan.
Getting Started
- Close the Forever client and extract the complete WayfarersRest folder from the ZIP into that client's Interface/AddOns folder.
- Check that WayfarersRest.toc is directly inside the WayfarersRest folder, without an extra enclosing project or version folder.
- Start the client, enable the addon and open it with the campfire button or /wayfarersrest.
- Open your own profession before checking Contributions, then select a recipe to review its details.
- Use Report to review and copy information or prepare a chat draft that you send yourself.
When updating, close the client, keep a backup of your previous addon and settings, and replace the complete addon folder. No other addon or external development tool is required.
Slash Commands
- /wayfarersrest - Open or close the main window.
- /wayfarersrest options - Toggle the addon's options.
- /wayfarersrest report - Open the Report view.
- /wayfarersrest debug - Open Session Log.
- /wayfarersrest reset - Reset window and button positions and show the opening button.
/wfr is an optional shorter alias and is registered only if it is not already in use. Existing command registrations are not replaced. The reset command restores positions; it is not a complete settings wipe.
Current Beta Scope and Compatibility
This addon targets World of Warcraft: Forever only. The current reviewed API and data reference is 1.60.1, build 70338. Matching version numbers do not establish successful client validation.
The current partial Beta does not provide:
- Automatic camp detection or verified camp entry and exit.
- A confirmed camp identity or exact camp coordinate.
- A complete list of objects and offers at a camp.
- Calculated additional stat gains or confirmed effect-stacking rules.
- Automatic crafting, targeting, placement or message sending.
- Camp networking, remote camp listings or phase matching.
Real API results, material consumption, placement rules, secure actions and taint, chat delivery, waypoint rendering, UI layout, saved settings and performance still need testing in the actual client.
The interface and built-in messages are English. Names read from the game can follow the client language. Other WoW editions are outside this project's scope. No third-party addon or library is required.
Debug and Feedback
Open /wayfarersrest debug when something does not work as expected. Session Log provides client information, reference-build comparisons, required-function availability and current or historical data-reading status.
Copy useful information before reloading or logging out. The log is limited to the current session and is not automatically saved or transmitted. A listed function being present does not prove that it worked correctly.
A useful bug report includes:
- Addon version and actual Forever version, build and interface number.
- The steps needed to reproduce the problem.
- What you expected and what the client actually displayed or did.
- The relevant Lua error or Session Log excerpt.
- Other enabled addons and whether the issue also occurs with only Wayfarer's Rest enabled.
- For display issues, your resolution, game UI scale and addon window scale.
Review copied text and screenshots for private information before sharing. For item actions, distinguish a request from an observed successful result. Please use the feedback channel provided on this project page.
