PetPulse Modern

PetPulse Modern is an updated and extensively reworked version of the original PetPulse addon for WoW Classic, created by nulajedan. https://www.curseforge.com/wow/addons/petpulse

The original Classic PetPulse is a must-have addon for my hunter, and after adapting it for WoW Forever with PetPulse Forever, I wanted to see what the same compact pet-monitoring concept could offer Hunters in Modern/Retail WoW.

Modern WoW's Hunter pets work much differently from their Classic and Forever counterparts. Systems such as pet Happiness, independent pet XP, and Dependability do not exist in Modern, while Blizzard also places additional restrictions on the unit information available to addons. Because of this, PetPulse Modern is not intended to reproduce every feature found in the original PetPulse or PetPulse Forever.

Instead, PetPulse Modern adapts the original concept around the pet info and resources that remain useful in Modern WoW, providing a compact visual display for pet Health, Focus, status, and additional pet information.

PetPulse Modern is an independently maintained adaptation for Modern/Retail WoW and includes substantial compatibility work and a redesigned resource display for the current Midnight client.

Features

PetPulse modern provides Hunters with a compact circular display for keeping track of important pet information at a glance. The module can be resized and moved anywhere on your screen, and also locked/unlocked in its position.

Pet Health

The outer circular ring displays your pet's current Health.

The ring progressively depletes as your pet takes damage and changes color according to its remaining Health:

• Green — 70–100% Health
• Yellow — 30–69% Health
• Red — 0–29% Health

Modern WoW protects current unit Health information as a Blizzard secret value. PetPulse Modern uses Blizzard's supported radial-display functionality to display this protected information without attempting to directly inspect or calculate the restricted value.

Pet Focus

The inner circular ring displays your pet's current Focus.

The ring depletes as your pet spends Focus and fills again as Focus regenerates. Its color follows Blizzard's standard Focus resource color.

As with Health, current pet Focus is protected by Modern WoW's secret-value system. PetPulse Modern uses Blizzard-supported display functionality to safely represent the resource without attempting to bypass those restrictions.

Pet Status

The center of the PetPulse display provides your pet's current level but changes to a death icon if your pet dies. The display updates as your pet is revived.

Detailed Pet Tooltip

Hover over the PetPulse module for additional information about your active pet, including:

• Pet level
• Pet family
• Pet specialization
• Health status
• Focus status
• Armor
• Damage
• Attack Power
• Attack Speed

Modern WoW does not expose every pet statistic to addons. PetPulse Modern reports pet information supplied by the current WoW APIs rather than estimating, duplicating, or inventing statistics that are unavailable or protected.

Modern WoW Design

PetPulse Modern serves a somewhat different purpose from the original PetPulse and PetPulse Forever because Hunter pet mechanics have changed considerably in Modern WoW.

Rather than attempting to recreate systems that no longer exist or work around information Blizzard intentionally protects, PetPulse Modern focuses on what it can do well: providing a highly visible, compact Health and Focus monitor alongside useful pet-specific information.

This makes it particularly useful for players who prefer to keep Blizzard's normal pet unit frame small or hidden but still want an easy peripheral view of their pet's condition and resources.

Primary Pet Monitoring

PetPulse Modern monitors the Hunter's primary active pet.

For Beast Mastery Hunters using abilities or talents that summon an additional companion, PetPulse Modern only monitors the primary controllable pet rather than attempting to combine multiple pets into the same display.

Interface

PetPulse Modern retains the compact circular appearance of the original PetPulse while replacing its Classic-era Happiness and experience rings with Modern-appropriate Health and Focus displays.

The options menu allows you to:

• Resize the PetPulse module
• Show or hide the module
• Lock or unlock its position
• Enable or disable pet death screen messages
• Preview the randomized pet death messages
• Reset the module to its default settings

You can right-click the PetPulse module to open its options.

Built for Modern WoW

Creating PetPulse Modern required more than simply changing the addon's interface version.

The original PetPulse design has been adapted for the current Retail client, including:

• Replacing the Classic Happiness ring with a live pet Health ring
• Replacing the Classic pet XP ring with a live pet Focus ring
• Blizzard secret-value-safe Health and Focus rendering
• Native radial resource display compatible with protected values
• Health-based green, yellow, and red status coloring
• Blizzard-standard Focus coloring
• Updated Modern pet information APIs
• Pet family and specialization information
• Updated pet death and revive handling
• Modernized tooltip information
• Removal of Classic/Forever-only systems that do not apply to Modern Hunter pets
• Updated options appropriate to the Modern version
• Numerous compatibility and stability changes

**Modern WoW Notice**

PetPulse Modern has been tested for World of Warcraft: Midnight.

Modern World of Warcraft continues to evolve, and Blizzard may change addon APIs, secret-value restrictions, or Hunter pet mechanics in future updates.

PetPulse Modern has been designed to use the pet information currently exposed by the Modern client as safely and accurately as possible. Future Blizzard updates may require corresponding PetPulse Modern updates.

PetPulse Family

PetPulse Modern is one of three independently maintained adaptations of the original PetPulse:

PetPulse Forever adapts the addon for World of Warcraft: Forever, retaining and expanding support for Classic-style systems such as pet Happiness, feeding progress, pet experience, and Dependability.

PetPulse Modern adapts the same compact monitoring concept for current Retail WoW, focusing instead on Health, Focus, pet status, and the pet information relevant to Modern Hunters.

PetPulse 335 preserves the original addon's Classic-style functionality while introducing compatibility updates, improved pet information, and refined Happiness tracking for Wrath of the Lich King 3.3.5a.

The three versions are maintained separately because the underlying Hunter pet systems and addon APIs are substantially different.
