Lafee Cursor Aura

Keep the information that matters where your eyes already are.

Lafee Cursor Aura is a lightweight and highly configurable aura tracker for World of Warcraft Retail 12.1.

Instead of displaying another row of traditional aura icons, the addon lets you place stack counters and duration indicators directly around your mouse cursor — or relative to another UI element.

The goal is simple: keep important combat information visible without forcing your eyes away from the action.

Features

Up to 9 configurable aura trackers

The addon provides a compact 3×3 layout:

• 1 central aura
• 8 surrounding aura slots

Each slot is configured independently.

Every tracker can display:

• stack count
• duration progress
• both
• or neither independently

No traditional aura icon is required.

Multiple aura IDs per tracker

A tracker can accept one or several Aura IDs.

This is useful when:

• different versions of a buff use different IDs;
• talents modify an aura;
• several effects should share the same visual position.

The first matching aura is displayed.

Stack display

Each tracker can display the current aura stack count with configurable:

• font
• font size
• outline
• colour
• X offset
• Y offset

Stack counters can also be disabled completely if you only want a duration indicator.

Duration indicators

Aura duration can be displayed using three different styles:

Horizontal bar

A compact horizontal progress bar that can be placed above or below the stack counter.

Vertical bar

A vertical progress bar that can be placed on either side of the counter.

Circular indicator

A radial duration indicator that surrounds the tracker.

The following options can be adjusted independently:

• bar length
• bar thickness
• bar position
• distance from the stack counter
• circle size
• circle thickness
• progress colour

This makes it possible, for example, to use:

• circles for defensive effects;
• bars for offensive effects;
• stack-only trackers for resources or charges.

Flexible anchoring

The complete aura group can follow your mouse cursor, but it is not limited to the cursor.

The HUD can also be anchored to supported UI frames such as:

• Screen / UIParent
• Blizzard Player Frame
• Blizzard Essential Cooldown Viewer
• Blizzard Utility Cooldown Viewer
• Blizzard Tracked Buffs
• ElvUI Player Frame
• ElvUI Player Power Bar
• ElvUI Player Cast Bar
• BetterCooldownManager Power Bar
• BetterCooldownManager Secondary Power Bar
• BetterCooldownManager Cast Bar

You can configure:

• anchor point
• relative anchor point
• global X offset
• global Y offset

This allows Lafee Cursor Aura to be used as a small independent HUD anywhere in your interface.

Optional group background

The complete aura group can use an optional background.

You can configure:

• width
• height
• colour
• opacity
• square or rounded corners
• always visible or combat-only visibility

The background follows the same anchor as the aura group.

Live preview

The settings window includes a visual preview of the configured trackers.

You can adjust positions, colours, fonts and progress indicators without needing to trigger every aura manually.

Per-character settings

Lafee Cursor Aura stores its configuration independently for each character.

This allows completely different HUD layouts for different classes or specializations.

Retail 12.1 / Secret-safe aura handling

Lafee Cursor Aura is designed for the aura restrictions introduced in modern World of Warcraft.

Aura stacks and durations are connected to addon-owned widgets using Blizzard's native aura display system.

Blizzard writes protected aura information directly to the display widgets.

The addon does not attempt to:

• scan protected aura values every frame;
• extract restricted values into Lua;
• bypass Blizzard's combat or secret-value restrictions.

This keeps the runtime lightweight and compatible with the modern Retail aura API.

Getting started

1. Install Lafee Cursor Aura.
2. Log into World of Warcraft.
3. Type:

/lca

or use the minimap button.

1. Select one of the nine aura positions.
2. Enter an Aura ID.
3. Configure the display.
4. Adjust the position using the live preview.
5. Repeat for any additional aura you want to track.

Default example

The central tracker is initially configured for:

Bone Shield — Aura ID 195181

This is only an example.

Lafee Cursor Aura is not limited to Blood Death Knights.

You can replace it with any supported aura ID.

Aura IDs do not need to belong to your spellbook, so the addon can also track effects coming from talents, items, encounters or other sources when Blizzard exposes them through the aura system.

Commands

/lca

Opens or closes the settings window.

/lca preview

Toggles the runtime preview for the first tracker.

Minimap button

The addon includes a LibDataBroker / LibDBIcon minimap launcher.

It is compatible with common minimap-button collectors.

The minimap button can also be disabled from the addon settings.

Performance

Lafee Cursor Aura was designed to remain lightweight.

Cursor positioning is handled separately from aura-state updates, and aura information relies on Blizzard's native widget system rather than continuous Lua aura scanning.

There are no mandatory external addon dependencies.

Required libraries are bundled with the addon.

Compatibility

Designed for:

World of Warcraft Retail 12.1

The addon is not intended for Classic clients.

Integration targets currently include Blizzard UI, ElvUI and BetterCooldownManager frames.

External UI addons may rename or recreate their frames between versions, so third-party anchor compatibility can occasionally require updates.
