Know what any tier token, arena piece or badge item is the moment you look at it — tier, season, badge cost and the spec it is built for, in tooltips and at the vendor.

Ever stood at a vendor staring at eleven near-identical chestpieces, trying to work out which one is yours? GearTags answers that without you leaving the game.

It labels gear with what it is and who it is for — the tier, the arena season, the badge price, the dungeon set, and the spec it is built for — right in the tooltip and on the vendor's own page.

Nothing to set up. Install it and the labels are there.

At the vendor

The page labels itself, so you can read it without hovering every icon.

  • The tier sits on each item's icon — Tier 4, Tier 5, Tier 6.
  • The spec sits on the cost line as that talent tree's icon, so you can pick the healing piece out from the damage one at a glance.
  • PvP vendors get the same treatment: the season or era on the icon, the role on the cost line.
  • Anything your class cannot use is left blank — armour you do not wear, roles you do not have, weapons you were never trained in. At an arena weapon vendor that is most of the page, so the few you can actually buy stand out.

Tier tokens

Ctrl-click a token and you get every class's reward in one list, with yours at the top.

  • Click any row to try that piece on in the Dressing Room.
  • Shift-click a row to link it into chat.
  • Tokens that can be traded for arena gear instead show you both options, so you can see what you are giving up.
  • Raid quest turn-ins work the same way — Magtheridon's Head, Head of Onyxia and Head of Nefarian.

Badge of Justice

Ctrl-click a badge to browse everything it buys, with the price on every row.

Narrow it down by content phase, by equipment slot, and by armour or weapon type, so you are looking at a handful of items instead of a wall of them.

What gets labelled

  • Tier tokens, and the tier pieces they turn into
  • The vanilla tier sets, Tier 1 through Tier 3
  • The dungeon sets
  • Arena gear with its season, across all four seasons — armour, weapons, jewellery and relics
  • Honor and battleground gear, including the older pre-TBC sets
  • Badge gear, with what it costs and the phase it arrived in

Roles in your own words

Where a piece is built for a role, the label says it the way your class would. A Shaman sees Enhancement, not "melee DPS". A Druid healing piece reads Restoration.

Roles your class does not have are simply left off, so you are never told about tanking gear you cannot tank in.

Everywhere you look at an item

Your bags, the bank, vendor windows, item links in chat — and inside other addons too, including AtlasLoot's loot browser and bag replacements such as Baganator.

Commands

  • /geartags — quick in-game help
  • /tier — the same, shorter

The browse window remembers where you put it.

If a label ever disagrees with what an item's own stats plainly say, trust the item — leave a comment telling me which piece and it gets fixed in the next release.
