Square boxes instead of names?

Playing the English client on a Chinese realm (or anywhere with Chinese, Japanese or Korean player names) with EllesmereUI? EllesmereUI's fonts, like Expressway and the other sleek Latin fonts, contain no Chinese characters. So every name like 张伟 shows up as □□ on your unit frames, nameplates, raid frames, tooltips, mail and damage meters.

EllesmereUI has no setting that fixes this everywhere names appear. This addon does.

What it does

• Any text that contains Chinese, Japanese or Korean characters is drawn in a CJK font of your choice.
• When that text changes back to plain English, it returns to your EllesmereUI font, so everything else keeps the look you picked.
• It works everywhere at once: unit frames, party and raid frames, nameplates, tooltips, mail, guild and friends lists, damage meters, and text from any other addon too.
• There's nothing to set up per frame. Install it and the boxes are gone.

Settings

Type /cnfix, or open the EllesmereUI options panel and find Chinese Name Fix in the sidebar.

Commands

• /cnfix: open the settings
• /cnfix status: show the current font and how many strings are fixed
• /cnfix sweep: re-apply to all text right now
• /cnfix debug: diagnostics (include this output in bug reports)

Good to know

• A line that contains Chinese is drawn entirely in the Chinese font, Latin letters included. WoW renders each line of text with one font, so a mixed "English font for letters, Chinese font for characters" line isn't possible. We tested it. Lines without Chinese stay in your EllesmereUI font.
• Text the game hides from addons in combat (Midnight's "secret" values) can't be inspected, so it's left as it is. If a name only ever appears that way, it may still show boxes during combat.
• Text already using Blizzard's default fonts shows Chinese fine on its own and isn't touched.
• Lightweight. The addon only does work when a piece of text actually contains CJK characters.

Want a nicer Chinese font?

The built-in Hei 黑体 is a solid default. For a sharper, more modern look, install any SharedMedia font with Chinese characters, such as Noto Sans SC, and pick it from the Chinese Font list.

Requirements

• World of Warcraft Retail 12.x (Midnight) or WoW Forever
• EllesmereUI is recommended: the settings page lives inside its options panel. Without it, the fix still runs with default settings and the /cnfix commands still work.

设置

输入 /cnfix，或打开 EllesmereUI 设置面板，在侧边栏找到 Chinese Name Fix。

命令

• /cnfix：打开设置
• /cnfix status：显示当前字体和已修复的文字数量
• /cnfix sweep：立即对所有文字重新应用
• /cnfix debug：诊断信息（反馈问题时请附上）

注意事项

• 包含中文的那一行会整行使用中文字体，包括其中的英文字母。WoW 每一行文字只能使用一种字体，所以无法做到同一行里"英文用英文字体、中文用中文字体"，这一点我们已实际测试过。不含中文的文字仍然使用你的 EllesmereUI 字体。
• 战斗中游戏对插件隐藏的文字（至暗之夜的"保密值"）无法读取，会保持原样。如果某个名字只以这种方式出现，战斗中仍可能显示方块。
• 本来就使用暴雪默认字体的文字 可以正常显示中文，插件不会改动。
• 轻量：只有当文字确实包含中日韩字符时，插件才会处理。

想要更好看的中文字体？

自带的 黑体 已经够用。想要更清晰、更现代的效果，可以安装任何带中文字符的 SharedMedia 字体（例如 Noto Sans SC 思源黑体），然后在 中文字体 列表中选择它。

需求

• 魔兽世界 正式服 12.x（至暗之夜）或 WoW Forever
• 推荐安装 EllesmereUI：设置页面位于它的设置面板中。没有 EllesmereUI 时，修复功能仍会以默认设置运行，/cnfix 命令依然可用。
