Description

Crafted

Cheaper to craft or buy? Every tooltip answers, with mats, prices, and recipe sources. A shopping list tracks what you have and still need, fills trade windows with exact quantities, splits stacks for you, and logs every trade as proof.

Crafted puts the cost to craft on every item tooltip, each mat priced from your own Auctionator scans, with the recipe's source and its BoE or BoP status right there. A search covers all 1,276 crafts in the game, enchants included, sortable by cost, AH value, and profit. The shopping list aggregates mats across everything you want made and checks them against your bags and bank. At the trade window, one button builds exact stacks and loads them for you. And every completed trade lands in a log you can post to chat; if your partner runs Crafted too, both logs share one confirmed receipt with the same trade id.

Why those features? Because you've stood at the auction house eyeing a Greater Shadow Protection Potion for 6 gold, wondering if the mats would run you 3. And you've stood in Ironforge next to an enchanter, trying to remember whether Crusader took four Large Brilliant Shards or six, and whether your Righteous Orbs are in the bank or on another character. Crafted was built for exactly those moments.

Cheaper to craft or buy?

Hover any item. Bags, auction house, AtlasLoot, a link somebody dropped in chat. You get the cost to craft it, every mat priced, and where the recipe comes from:

Crafted: craft cost (Alchemy 290) 4g 12s
   1x Shadow Oil 88s (buy 2g 30s)
        4x Fadeleaf 60s
        4x Grave Moss 24s
        1x Leaded Vial 4s
   1x Dreamfoil 1g 80s
   1x Crystal Vial 40s
Recipe: Trainer

Look at the Shadow Oil line. On the AH it's 2g 30s, but its own mats cost 88s, and that difference is where the potion's real margin hides. Crafted prices every part at whichever is cheaper, buying it or making it, and shows both numbers so you can see the spread yourself.

Prices come from your own Auctionator scans. Your realm, your faction, today. Not a website's average from last week.

One deliberate exception: anything gated by a cooldown, like transmutes or Mooncloth, is never assumed. An Arcanite Bar is priced as a bar you buy, because "just transmute eight of them" is not a plan.

Where do recipes actually come from?

Recipe, formula, plans, schematic tooltips tell you what they teach, what the craft costs, whether the recipe is BoE or BoP, and where it drops, who sells it, or which quest rewards it. "Drop: Scarlet Spellbinder (Western Plaguelands) ~0.2%" right on the tooltip beats alt-tabbing to a website in the middle of a dungeon.

/crafted opens a search over all 1,276 crafts in the game, enchants included. Type any part of a name. Sort by cost, AH value, or profit when you're deciding what's worth making this week.

The list

Here's the classic mess: you want five enchants done. Each one takes different mats. Some you have, some are in the bank, some you're short. Nobody can hold that in their head, and nobody should.

Add crafts to the list with a right-click from search. Quantities stack, so two Advanced Target Dummies means every count doubles. The list totals everything and checks your bags and bank: need 8, have 3, missing 5, and what the missing ones cost. Click a single craft to see just its mats.

The "base materials" toggle expands crafted parts into what you'd farm (framework, then bronze bars, then copper and tin ore), indented so you can see what builds what. It only expands what you're actually missing.

When you're ready to buy: "AH shopping list" hands the mats to Auctionator with exact names and quantities, queued to search the next time you're at the auction house. Or "Share mats" posts the list to party or guild chat, or whispers your crafter, split safely under the message length cap.

The trade

You found your enchanter. Now the old routine: what were the quantities again, split the stack of 20 shards to get 4, count it twice, hope you didn't shortchange anyone.

Instead: when the trade window opens, a Crafted panel docks next to it. Pick which craft this trade is for and press "Fill trade". Crafted builds one exact stack per slot right in your bags, merging scattered piles and splitting oversized ones. Ten leather spread across three stacks goes in as a single stack of ten. Thirty with a stack cap of twenty goes in as twenty plus ten, never ten singles. Each stack is placed and confirmed before the next one moves, so the counts are right even on a laggy night.

More mats than six slots hold? Trade what's loaded and press Fill again. Crafted knows what you've already handed over and loads only the rest. When the last mat lands for an enchant, it reminds you to put your weapon in the "Will not be traded" slot. And the one thing it will never do: press Accept. You check the window, you trade.

The receipt

Every completed trade is written to a per-character log: who, every item with its quantity, the time, and which craft it was for. Cancelled trades are never recorded. The record is captured from the trade window at the moment of acceptance, so it stays accurate whether or not the other player runs any addon at all.

If they do run Crafted, the two copies talk. They agree on one trade id the moment the window opens. When the trade completes, the giver's addon sends a receipt, the receiver's log fills in with the same items, craft, and timestamp, and an acknowledgement comes back. Both entries then show a green "confirmed by partner's Crafted". Two matching receipts, one shared id, both acknowledged. Handy six days later when someone claims the shards never arrived.

The Log tab (/crafted log) lists it all, gold "To" for trades you gave and green "From" for ones you received. Pick an entry and post it to party, raid, or guild with one click, or whisper it; the name is prefilled with the person you traded. Finished trades can also announce themselves on the spot: raid chat in a raid, party chat in a party, a whisper receipt to your partner when you're solo.

Getting started

  1. Install Auctionator and run a full scan at the AH. That's the price source.
  2. Open your profession windows once. Crafted double-checks its data against your client and believes the client if they ever disagree.
  3. Hover something.

No Auctionator? You still get mats, recipe sources, and vendor prices. Just no auction numbers.

Commands

Command What it does
/crafted open or close the search window
/crafted shadow oil search by any part of a name
/crafted list the shopping list
/crafted log the trade log window (log print 25 for chat output)
/crafted options settings
/crafted minimap show or hide the minimap button

The minimap button does the same jobs: left-click for search, right-click for the list, shift-right-click for the trade log, shift-click for options. Its tooltip shows what your list is still missing and how many trades are logged.

Fine print

  • Bank counts come from the game's cached bank data. Visit your bank once per session for exact numbers.
  • Drop rates are estimates from loot data. Close enough to plan a farm night, not gospel.
  • Item names ship in English, so search matches English names on any client language.
  • Updated the addon while logged in? Type /reload on every character that's in the game. Clients keep running the old code until they do.
