Description
EpochsEnd
Have you ever wanted a modpack encompassing adventure, loot, and variety? Do you always feel like you've found the modpack of your dreams only to be let down by a lack of content in another area? Do you end up resorting to a kitchen sink modpack and the lack of quest and story variety are a huge let down? If so then you've found yourself in the same proverbial boat as I. That's where Epochs End comes into play!
Epochs End is a story oriented experience tailored to satisfy all the areas I felt were missing in my life. It is a labor of love I have worked on in my free time for two years now. Epochs End is meant to deliver the pinnacle of diversified mod experiences providing the perfect blend of Tech, Magic, Exploration, Combat, and Combat in a concise well planned manner.
Mechanics
Over time I found that a big part of engagement and immersion for me started at the base level of mechanics. I designed and planned the base level of the modpack with several intentions in mind. In planning I liked to call these a mix between "Core Gameplay Alterations", and "Core mechanic Alterations". These include but are not limited to mods that alter the base level of Minecraft's mechanics. I decided on an arguably small plethora of changes ranging from torch behaviors, day and night cycle alterations, mob behavioral pattern swaps, a bunch of others, and of course, world generation. At the current stage of the pack I've reached a place where I am very satisfied with the implementation of these changes. You could call "The perfect blend of Hardcore and Survival mechanics." Oh and I can confidently say.. Beware of the dark.
World Gen
To touch briefly on world generation, Epochs End features a combination of modifications utilizing some of the more popular biome mods, and touches on some of the lesser known ones. Using these modifications it is able to procure absolutely beautiful terrain generation. The terrain features not only compliment the overall aesthetics, but further compliment the mechanics of the pack using one or more mod integrations at their disposal. I can honestly say from generating numerous test worlds that the biomes are astounding and I could see myself building in every one of them.
Combat
Combat is another one of those areas that I feel are very hit or miss when deciding what to play. Even when I feel my monster slaying desires are adequately satiated, more often then not my creative abilities are stifled through compensation in the process. Epochs End reaches to obtain a balance between the two play styles. Accommodations are met not only for the traveling life of an ever persistent adventurer, seeking to find a nearby ruin or campsite to lay refuge in before the morning raid; but also the ever laborious existence of a sorcerer or tinkerer hoping to expand their workshop (be it arcane or mechanical) to provide new gear for the next excursion. A wide variety of weaponry and equipment are planned and present, with documentation planned to guide inquisitive players to new techniques and playstyles that may suit them better than they had previously imagined.
Homebodies
While combat is prevalent, and you will most certainly have to defend yourself to survive; why leave your home on such an unnecessary occasion? I love building and crafting so much and I really wanted Epochs End to encompass a wide variety of materials and items to build and decorate with. Good news is, if your reading this part because you love building and crafting as much as I do, and your reading to see if another adventuring experience leaves out the homebodies, your in luck! Epochs End aims to include a significant amount of blocks, decor, livery, and so much more. Plenty of roofs, ramps, plants, windows, blocks, doors, and more! I ensure you there's a long list of included and planned features designed to not only make your house snazzy as ever, but functional too! A simple way to describe this would be to tell you to imagine this. A room dedicated to all your spoils from the last adventure! Sounds amazing because it is!
Hardcore
Although Epochs End contains a little bit for everybody, It's not for the faint of heart. The pack features a variety of changes listed under the core mechanic alterations designed to make survival difficult, and establishment necessary for exploration. Don't be too alarmed though adventurers and explorers, there will be options for "on the go" base life as well. Just make sure you pack something to sleep on! This pack will test your prowess and drive to survive by pitting you face to face against the harshness of the outside world. Face off against various climates, monsters, beasts, hazards, people, encroaching darkness, and even your own stomach in Epochs End as you struggle to find a foothold in this new world.
Questing
I am a huge fan of quests, story, and story driven questing packs. I am pleased to announce that a fully fledged quest book has been in the works for quite some time and I have many plans for releasing some form of a completed questing book/system. This will include a written story with lore, details, drive, and reasoning for your existence in the world of the pack. Along with this the questing system will include multiple quest lines, main quests, optional quests, quest teaming, and more. I have created strategies to incorporate my own version of lore and story into questing as well and let me tell you, it's pretty cool so far. I plan on including quests for almost every single mod. This will help new players and players unfamiliar with certain mods, or inquisitive players to pick up on new mechanics and mods too! I do not however, plan on making this questing system forced, or make you forced to go through certain mods to get to other parts as of now.
The basis of the story is as follows. You are a prominent adventurer who had been sent word of a contract providing irrefutable pay. You pass through a rift only to arrive in a new dimension or "Rift Partition" with all of your belongings having been lost due to the current instability of the rift. You meet an omnipresent sentient book known as the lore-keeper "Azmalodan". He tells you of corruption and a dark force which corrupted the land. He tells you that he was the record keeper of a once prominent kingdom before the dark force attacked destroying everything, and corrupting all. In the wake of the chaos his master acted quickly to cast him forth through a rift to this very world you are standing in. He gives you tasks to reclaim some of your previous adventuring items through the riftverse. He gives you tasks to help him reclaim instruction manuscripts and his past knowledge documenting ways to survive and techniques that may provide useful to you. He tells you of the dark lords presence in this very rift partition and how you must travel to various dimensions to defeat their guardians in order to prevent the corruption from growing.
The story provides a wonderful basis to tie in everything previously stated from the modpack into this fantastic, well planned, story pack with a variety of playstyles and tons of custom tailored content. Using mod integrations and large progression based mods I am able to create a long spanning lifespan of gameplay for "half the cost" hopefully helping to boost the overall performance of the pack. Overall I wish to share my conception of a perfect modpack, "Epochs End" with you and use my writing and planning skills to offer this experience to everyone.
I finally feel the pack is at a stage where I can offer an Alpha version available to try and give to the public and friends. Everything is still being updated and is subject to change.
Welcome to Epochs End v1.0.
Thank you for reading.
