The MCA Reborn extension for Villagers at Work. It goes wherever MCA Reborn is installed — the server, and every player's game — beside the mod itself.
What it adds
- Your villagers say what is wrong. Instead of reading a particle above a blocked villager's head, you hear it: "I've nothing to cull with", "The chest is full". Rate-limited and proximity-gated, so a village of blocked villagers does not flood the chat. Talk to a blocked villager and it tells you what it still needs, straight away; only you hear the answer.
- Guards equip themselves from your village's armories. A guard walks to an armory, takes what it is missing, and leaves. Every guard wears a full set of armour — helmet, chestplate, leggings and boots. Swordsmen take swords, and shields once the village has an MCA armory or blacksmith building; archers take leather armour, bows and arrows.
- Guards wear their gear out. Armour wears as a guard is hit, a sword with every blow and a bow with every shot, as yours do. A piece that breaks is replaced from the armories once the fight is over, so the smiths keep working for as long as your guards fight.
- Archers use real arrows. An archer shoots only the arrows it carries and takes sixteen from the fletcher's armory once it runs out. With none left it puts its bow away and fights with its fists until the fight is over. A setting,
archersUseArrows, turns this off and lets MCA hand archers their arrows.
- Guards bring in their loot. A guard carries the rotten flesh of what it kills to a cleric whose shelf wants it.
- A guard that cannot get its gear says so. When none of its armories holds a piece it is missing, a guard on duty tells you which — a helmet, a sword, a bow, arrows — and tells you again if you talk to it.
- Hurt guards heal first. A guard at half health or below drinks a potion of healing or regeneration from a cleric's brewing stand before it goes to fetch its gear.
- Guards keep the smiths busy. The armorer, the weaponsmith, the fletcher and the leatherworker keep their armories stocked in any world; with MCA, guards draw from them, and each piece taken is made again.
- Held tools render properly, in the correct hand for a left-handed villager, and villagers swing them as they work; a villager taking something to a shelf, or drinking a potion, holds that instead. For vanilla villagers the mod's optional client jar does the same.
- Children run errands for their parents rather than for the village at large.
- Guard advancements. In single player, four advancements for guards join the mod's advancements tab: On Guard, Suited Up, Spoils and Patched Up.
MCA's own chore system is untouched, and MCA's village storage coexists with the mod's — they are separate systems and neither fights the other.
What you need
- Villagers at Work, the same version as this jar
- MCA Reborn 8.1.11 or newer
- Fabric API, Fabric Language Kotlin 1.14.1 or newer, and Java 25
One jar per Minecraft release, for the releases MCA Reborn itself supports: 26.1.2 and 26.2.
Source and licence
GPL-3.0-or-later, because this jar compiles against MCA Reborn, which is GPL-3.0. The corresponding source is attached to each file here as an additional download: the complete source of that jar, which builds on its own.
The main mod "Villagers at Work" itself is All Rights Reserved, and this extension builds only against its extension API, which is MIT.
The reason why the extension jar is separate from the main mod is because the extension compiles against MCA Reborn's GPL code and so it has to follow the same license. The main mod does not.
