Description
Steelo's Progressions: Constellation
Progression as a star chart. Deeds you do in the world pay progress points. You spend them to light stars, and each star opens exactly what it guards: a material, a tier of gear, a workstation, a dimension. The chart's rings are eras. Light enough stars on one ring and the next opens.
There's no fixed checklist. You pick the path: rush the Nether Gate, arm up first, or build up redstone before anything else.
You can always mine, gather, loot and build with anything, and smelt anything in a furnace that opens for you. The stars you have lit decide what you can craft, which equipment you can use, which workstations open for you, what villagers will sell you, and which dimensions portals will take you to.
Every lock follows that rule. The chart's ? page shows it to players word for word, and it only lists the locks your server has turned on.
How it works
- Do deeds. Each era has 5–6 of them: chop, mine, craft, slay, explore, or just play. Each one pays points.
- Light stars. You can spend points on any star whose ring is open and whose inner neighbour on the same arm is already lit.
- Open the next ring. Light 2 of the 3 stars on the first ring, then 3 of 5 on every ring after. You never have to finish a ring, and any star you skip stays there for later.
- Keep going outward, all the way to the Beyond.
The chart
Five arms run outward from the core, and seven rings circle it. Each star sits where an arm crosses a ring.
| Ring | Star cost | To open the next ring | Forge | Arsenal | Arcana | Frontier | Industry |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Stone (start) | 1 ✦ | 2 of 3 | Firemaking | Stone Arms | Masonry | ||
| Iron | 2 ✦ | 3 of 5 | Ironworking | Iron Arms | Bookbinding | Wayfaring | Mechanisms |
| Diamond | 3 ✦ | 3 of 5 | Gemcutting | Diamond Arms | Enchanting | Portalcraft | Engineering |
| Nether | 3 ✦ | 3 of 5 | Netherforge | Marksmanship | Brewing | The Nether Gate | Soulworks |
| Netherite | 4 ✦ | 3 of 5 | Netherite Smithing | Netherite Arms | Potent Brews | Eyes of Ender | Anchors |
| End | 4 ✦ | 3 of 5 | Endstone Masonry | Heavy Core | End Crystals | The End Gate | Shulkerworks |
| Beyond | 5 ✦ | Starforging | Wings | Beacons | Gateways | Automation |
- Forge covers heat, ore and materials. Everything else is built from what the Forge opens.
- Arsenal covers what you can swing, draw and wear.
- Arcana covers books, bottles and stranger work.
- Frontier covers maps, portals and the roads between worlds. It's the only arm that decides where you can go.
- Industry covers workstations, redstone and automation.
Wood-tier crafting is open from the start. The Stone ring is the first one you light.
Nothing you do is wasted
- Deeds from every open era keep counting. Opening a new ring never costs you a deed you hadn't finished.
- Milestones, like entering the Nether, count as soon as their era opens, even if you earned them earlier.
- The bounty: every 20 hostile mobs you kill pays a point, in any era, for the whole game. It's slow on purpose, but it means no choice of stars can ever leave you stuck.
- The deeds alone pay enough to light the whole chart.
- Every star and deed was checked against the game's real recipes before release. That included a simulated player who lights stars in the worst possible order, to make sure nothing on the chart asks for something the game won't allow and no order of choices can leave you stuck.
The star chart
Press N to open it.
- Drag to move around and scroll to zoom. Stars you can afford right now pulse.
- Each star's cost is shown next to it. Hover over a star to see what it unlocks and whether you can light it yet. Click to open its details, and double-click (or press Light) to spend the points.
- The side panel shows your current ring, how many more stars open the next one, and every deed with its progress and reward.
- Right-click a deed to pin it. Up to 5 pinned deeds show on your HUD with live progress bars.
It feels like progress
- Finishing a deed plays a toast, a chime and a burst of particles.
- Lighting a star plays its own fanfare, and the star flashes on the chart.
- Opening a new ring is the full celebration: an era toast, a title card, fireworks and totem particles, and a chat summary of how many new stars just opened.
- Players outside your group get an announcement too, so the whole server can see it moving forward.
How the locks work
- Crafting is blocked everywhere items get made: your inventory, crafting table, stonecutter, smithing table, anvil and grindstone. Locked results show greyed out.
- Equipment from an unlit star can't mine, attack, fire or be worn.
- Workstations from an unlit star won't open, including ones in villages.
- Trading: villagers won't sell you tools, weapons or armor from an unlit star. Selling to villagers is never restricted.
- Travel: the Nether and the End stay closed until you light their gate. Leaving a dimension is always allowed, and operator commands are never blocked.
Built for servers
Everyone can progress alone, teams can share a chart and pool their points with vanilla /team, or the whole server can share one chart. Switch with /constellation mode.
/constellationshows your status and/constellation starslists the chart.- Ops can grant points, light stars, set an era or reset anyone with
/constellation points | light | era | reset.
Configurable
config/steelo_constellation.json lets you:
- turn each lock (equipment, workstations, trading, travel) on or off separately
- scale deed goals up or down
- tune the bounty, or set it to 0 to switch it off
Arms, eras and stars are all datapack registries, so server owners and pack developers can add, remove, rebalance or reskin any part of the chart without writing code.
Coming from Steelo's Progressions?
Constellation is a separate mod with its own mod id, so your original Steelo's Progressions worlds keep working. Don't install both in the same world, though. They'd each lock the same crafting.
