Description
Seal of Fauna
An honest answer to "is anything alive near me?"
I wanted a way to check what's actually alive near me — not a radar, not a live tracker, just a straight answer read from what's already loaded in the world right now.
How it works
Craft the Seal of Fauna, right-click to open the catalog, pick a species, and scan. It checks the terrain already loaded around you and reports how many it found and where the nearest one is.
The HUD that follows gives distance in blocks, a plain-word direction (ahead, behind, left, right), and a sense of whether the target is above or below you. It's a snapshot: if the animal wanders off after the scan, the HUD keeps pointing at where it actually was found — not a live position.
The catalog builds itself
There's no hardcoded species list. The catalog comes straight from the game's own MobCategory classification, split into Terrestrial, Aquatic and Ambient tabs, with monsters and non-fauna entities (villagers, golems) excluded automatically.
Install another mod that adds new animals and they show up in the right tab with nothing to configure.
Cost and cooldown
Each scan costs 1 XP (free in Creative) and has a 20-second cooldown — a deliberate choice, not something to spam.
Advanced Seal
Craft the Advanced Seal of Fauna and searching costs nothing afterward: 0 XP, cooldown down to 5 seconds. The cost is paid once, in the recipe, not in everyday use.
