Runic Races is a fantasy-focused Origins add-on for Minecraft 1.20.1 that adds 24 distinct races across 6 families, each with unique abilities, drawbacks, and playstyle-defining traits. It's a medieval fantasy set designed for the Runecraft modpack.

Choose what you are. Runic Races is a flagship Origins add-on that turns the origin screen into a two-step heritage choice: pick a family, then a race within it. 37 races across 7 families, each hand-built on one clean promise — one signature ability, one passive strength, and one real weakness. No race is strictly best; every one changes how you play, not just how well.

The Seven Families

  • Human (gold) — adaptable generalists: Primian, Celeron, Magi, Valen
  • Elven (magenta) — arcane grace, frail bodies: High Elf, Dark Elf, Moon Elf, Blood Elf, Ice Elf
  • Dwarven (slate) — tough and subterranean: Deep One, Forge One, Frost One, Iron One, Sky One, Runic One
  • Bestial (green) — sharp senses and predatory instinct: Arachnid, Avian, Canine, Feline, Kitsune, Serpen
  • Faeborne (teal) — magic, illusion, and gossamer wings: Changeling, Dryad, Sprite, Nymph, Faerie
  • Undead (purple) — undeath's gifts and the sun's curse: Zombie, Skeleton, Wraith, Demon, Reaper
  • Draconic (red) — elemental breath, scaled hide, and flight: Fire Drake, Ice Drake, Sea Serpen, Terra Drake, Volt Drake, Wind Wyrm

Signature Moments

Theatrical, never spammy. A Feline cheats death with Nine Lives. A Reaper rises at its own grave. The six drakes each breathe their element — fire, frost, drowning tide, shattering earth, the thunderbolt, and a gale that hurls foes skyward. Faeries weave a glamour that blesses allies and curses enemies in one breath. Every ability carries its own sound, particles, screen cue, and family-tinted HUD.

Strengths and Weaknesses

Balance is zero-sum. The Sprite is a +30%-speed glass cannon. The Wind Wyrm is the freest flyer alive — and a wretched, weakened thing the moment it's caged underground. Drakes are immune to their element and burned by its opposite. The Undead shrug off poison and hunger but decay in sunlight. Counterplay always exists: gear, helmets, the right terrain.

Look the Part (with Pehkui)

Every race has its own height, clustered by family so a party reads at a glance — tiny darting fae (Sprite & Faerie at less than half height), short and stocky dwarves, tall lithe elves, looming demons and reapers, and towering drakes that fill a doorway. From 0.45 to 1.30, you don't just play a race — you look like one.

Deep Mod Integration (all optional)

  • Ars Nouveau / Iron's Spellbooks — per-race mana, spell cost, and spell damage
  • Curios — family accessory slots (Elven necklace, Dwarven belt, Faeborne ring, Undead charm)
  • Apotheosis — luck modifiers • Pehkui — per-race scaling • Feathers — stamina-gated mobility

Absent mods are silently skipped — Runic Races runs great standalone.
