More Food - Preserved

A recovered early food mod, probably my second: sugary chips, burgers and all the original jank, preserved across Minecraft versions.

A little piece of my history

I think More Food was my second Minecraft mod. After recovering Derpy Pig, I found this tiny food mod tucked inside one of my old MediaFire mod packs, and playing it brought back memories of following SCMowns tutorials and making textures in Paint.NET.

The surviving archive has stored timestamps from January 2013, but there is no original author credit or development project. I believe it was mine; that is my recollection, rather than independently confirmed authorship or release history. In October 2026 the compiled release was recovered, reconstructed into readable source and brought across Minecraft versions, keeping all its janky weirdness.

What's in it?

Six original items, with the original 16x16 pixels and very questionable food values:

  • Potato Chips — craft sugar above a raw potato. Yes, sugar.
  • Sunny-Side Up Egg — smelt an egg.
  • Cheese Batter — craft sugar above a milk bucket. It stacks to one and isn't edible.
  • Cheese — smelt Cheese Batter.
  • Burger — bread above cooked beef above bread.
  • Cheese Burger — cheese above a burger.

Use a crafting table. Chips, batter and Cheese Burger have an empty top row, with the two ingredients vertically beneath it in the middle column; Burger uses all three rows in the middle column. Keep both side columns empty. Each recipe makes one item. The original large saturation multipliers and the version joke 3.14159265 are preserved.

Later loader versions have a More Food creative tab containing all six items. The five foods also remain in vanilla Food/Food & Drinks; Cheese Batter stays outside vanilla Food. Classic ModLoader versions use their available original inventory.

Potatoes backported

Minecraft 1.2.4, 1.2.5 and 1.3.2 include a potato backport, because those games predate vanilla potatoes. It brings the 1.4.7 potato plant and potato textures, raw/baked/poisonous potatoes, growth stages, bonemeal and harvest drops. A portion of wheat plants in newly generated village fields become starter potatoes. The crop's selection box is adjusted so clicking its visible leaves with bonemeal works in these older games; it remains passable.

Versions and installation

There are 23 builds across 18 Minecraft versions. A version is available here when its matching file appears in Files. Choose the file matching both your exact Minecraft version and loader; these are alternative downloads.

  • Risugami ModLoader: 1.2.4, 1.2.5, 1.3.2, 1.4.7, 1.5.2.
  • Forge: 1.6.4, 1.7.10, 1.8.9, 1.10.2, 1.12.2, 1.16.5, 1.18.2, 1.19.2, 1.20.1.
  • NeoForge: 1.21.1.
  • Fabric: 1.14.4, 1.16.5, 1.18.2, 1.19.2, 1.20.1, 1.21.1, 1.21.11, 26.3.

Install the matching loader, then place the matching individual mod file in that instance's mods folder. Fabric builds also require matching Fabric API. For classic versions use Java 8 and the exact matching Risugami ModLoader; it is a separate historical loader. CurseForge's classic downloads use .jar filenames containing the same ZIP archive bytes. Use a separate game instance for each version.

The builds passed basic load and world checks: rendering the items, eating, crafting and the two furnace recipes. Classic ModLoader used the production archives; later loaders used development clients with production files built separately. The early potato correction also passed normal click checks. This is a small preservation project, with basic checks rather than exhaustive compatibility testing.

Come share a bit of my history

If you give this strange little food mod a home in your world, I'd love to hear about it. Please leave an honest review or comment where the site allows it, share a screenshot and tell me which version you're playing. Whether you remember tutorial mods like this or are discovering them for the first time, thank you for sharing a little piece of my history.

Recovered and ported in 2026 with AI assistance. The original food artwork is preserved, not AI-generated replacement art; the mod has no generative AI functionality. Minecraft and third-party loaders, tools and libraries have their own terms and are not included.
