MCA: Quests 1.8.2 (Forge 1.20.1)
Curse Maven Snippet
What's new
[1.8.2] — November 1, 2026
Expanded Townstead 0.8.0 support with new quests, village projects, Chronicle entries and more reliable career and building objectives.
Both clients and servers must update to 1.8.2. Existing 1.8.1 saves remain supported.
New quests and project
- The First Order Sheet: Set up a work order, then have villagers complete six work actions.
- An Apprentice’s Rank: Help a villager reach rank 2. Any career with at least two ranks qualifies, including careers added by datapacks.
- Warmth for a Cold Worker: Help a cold villager stay comfortable for 30 seconds.
- A Place to Gather: Encourage four successful hangout visits and three conversations between villagers.
- A Charge from the Council: A new quest for settlements governed by a Townstead village council.
- The Village Larder: A village project to stock the larder and keep 24 bread in recognized village storage for two minutes.
Added
- Player career objectives and rewards. Quests can now track your own Townstead career progress and award career experience.
- Chronicle entries. Selected quest completions, finished projects and resolved situations can now become stories in Townstead’s Chronicles. This can be disabled with
compat.townstead.recordChronicles. - More options for datapack creators: objectives for village work, work orders, stored supplies, villager comfort and social activity, plus conditions based on Townstead factions and player authority.
Improvements and fixes
- Quests respect Townstead’s world settings. Quests that require disabled systems are withheld. Accepted quests pause with their progress preserved and deadlines stopped, then resume when the required system returns. Objectives also pause if a villager’s required need is not being simulated.
- Career goals stay tied to the correct profession. Changing a villager’s job no longer lets unrelated experience complete an objective. Rank names follow each career’s own progression, and jobless villagers no longer count as having a profession.
- Building quests stay tied to the original village. Progress no longer stops simply because the giver unloads or the player changes dimensions, and a moving quest giver no longer takes the objective to another town. Newly accepted quests require complete buildings; older quests retain their original rules.
- Clearer workforce projects. Project cards explain who qualifies and how residents are counted. Datapacks can choose to track the current workforce, the highest count reached, or distinct villagers trained during the project.
- Better Townstead journal support. Quest descriptions now appear in Townstead’s existing journal page, with more reliable refresh behavior when quest or archive information changes.
- Clearer reward feedback. Partial or unavailable Townstead rewards now explain why, including experience limits, disabled systems and unmet requirements. Eligible rewards that failed without applying anything can be retried with
/mcaquests rewards retry. - Fixed Heat over the Fields and A Week Kept Well being offered without the thirst mechanics they require.
- Improved compatibility detection, validation and diagnostic commands. If part of the Townstead integration becomes unavailable, affected quests pause instead of continuing with unreliable information.
Compatibility and testing
Townstead 0.7.x support is retained. New features appear only when the installed Townstead version provides what they need. Existing quest progress is preserved, with older career and building objectives updated where necessary using available saved information.
Dedicated-server checks covered Townstead 0.8.0, older Townstead versions and installations without Townstead. Client screens, live villager work and social-event tracking, and large-village performance still need in-game testing.
The NeoForge 1.21.1 port includes the same changes, but Townstead 0.8.0 is currently available only for Forge 1.20.1, so that combination could not be tested on NeoForge.
