MCA: Quests 1.8.1 (NeoForge 1.21.1)
Curse Maven Snippet
What's new
1.8.1 - October 30th, 2026
Forge 1.20.1 · NeoForge 1.21.1
Fixes building and defence objectives that failed to count valid work, keeps quest destinations consistent, and adds clearer guidance when something does not count.
Village Areas and Destinations
- Village objectives now measure distance horizontally. Building and defending within a village’s marked area works at any height, fixing problems caused by village centres recorded far above or below the player.
- Fixed Mend the Village Well getting stuck despite nearby building. It still requires eight stone bricks within 12 blocks of the marked village centre. Existing accepted copies continue without a definition-change pause.
- Quest destinations stay where they were assigned. Home-village and nearest-village jobs are now tied to their destination when accepted. Walking elsewhere or unloading the giver no longer redirects the job.
- Village searches respect their intended range. If a nearby destination cannot be found, the quest explains this, preserves progress and periodically retries.
- Destinations retain their dimension. Overworld targets no longer appear at matching coordinates in the Nether, and work in the wrong dimension does not count toward a location-specific objective.
- Applied consistent village-distance checks to relevant breeding, taming, profession and quest-availability conditions. Objectives centred on specific points still check height normally.
Quest Progress Fixes
- Torch the Dark now accepts wall torches. Both ordinary standing and wall torches count. Existing copies of the bundled quest retain their progress.
- Multi-block placements count correctly. Beds, doors and tall flowers count as one object each, while separate blocks placed together can each contribute.
- Cancelled placements no longer grant credit, including placements blocked by claim protection. This applies to personal quests and village projects.
- Automated placement and breaking do not earn player credit, and work is never assigned to a nearby player.
- Newly counted positions are tracked separately in each dimension. Building at one set of coordinates no longer blocks legitimate work at the same coordinates elsewhere.
- Fixed building progress dropping when an older quest had a saved count without a matching position history.
- Fixed missed tending and curing interactions with MCA villagers, including cures given immediately after accepting a quest. Required remedies are consumed only once per valid interaction.
- Trading objectives now recognise the intended merchant correctly. Profession matching follows the same rules as conversation objectives, and quests naming a specific villager credit that villager’s completed trades.
- Impossible objectives no longer sit silently at zero. Quests using empty item, block or entity tags are withheld from offers. Accepted copies pause with an explanation, preserve progress and freeze their timers until the required content returns.
- Structure objectives now pause if their required structure is removed, and escort quests are no longer offered for relatives who do not exist.
Clearer Quest Guidance
- New Show area button. Outline the exact area where building or defence work counts, with feedback showing whether the block you are looking at is inside it.
- The quest log explains the rules: required materials, distance, height restrictions, destination dimension, unique-position counting and whether work must happen after acceptance.
- Village markers appear on loaded terrain, rather than directing players toward an irrelevant Y=0 position.
- Rejected work gets a useful explanation, such as being outside the area, reusing a counted position, working in another dimension or waiting for a destination.
- Possession and delivery objectives now explain which inventory slots are checked. Backpacks and other storage are not searched.
Well, wall and gate quests still use the marked village centre—not the actual well, wall or gate. Their existing radii are unchanged; Show area reveals exactly where work counts.
Administration and Updating
- Added
/mcaquests debug activeto inspect accepted quests, progress, destinations and reasons work was refused. - Added previewed, logged quest repairs for administrators: reassign destinations, identify the dimension of older position records or grant limited compensation for counted work. Repairs do not automatically complete quests or award rewards.
- Existing 1.8.0 saves remain supported, with no new configuration settings required.
- Added guidance translations in English, Brazilian Portuguese, Spanish and Simplified Chinese.
- Clients and servers must both update to 1.8.1. Network protocol is now 19.
- Downgrading to 1.8.0 can disrupt position tracking and restore the previous destination behaviour.
