This mod provides users with a NEI-like light overlay.
This mod requires Rift, Forge or Fabric. (Fabric API, Cloth Config (Fabric) and Architectury are required for Fabric, Cloth Config (Forge) and Architectury are required for Forge)
Light Overlay is a client ONLY mod, putting this on a server will do nothing.
Press F7 to toggle the light overlay, configurable through Controls Settings.
A yellow cross means that mobs can spawn at night, a red cross means that mobs can spawn anytime.
A blue cross means that mobs can spawn if there is a spawner (1.18 only)
Config:
- Rift 1.13.2: Config Screen Not Available
- Forge 1.13.x: Config Screen Not Available
- Forge 1.14+: Mod List > Config

Known Issue:
This mod does not work well with OptiFine shaders: https://github.com/shedaniel/LightOverlay-Fabric/issues/5, however you can use the number display mode which will work with shaders.
Is this where we put in feature requests? I'd like it if the mod didn't light up or put a number on blocks that are NOT spawnable. OR used a different indicator.
Light levels show on leaves, carpets, etc. So, it can mislead you to think you have spawnable areas, but you know you don't because of the block type.
In reply to frank_n_honest:
I absolutly agree, there are way too many indicators of lightlevels that are not needed.
Why does it take two external libraries just to add an X to the top of a block depending on light level?
In reply to RepoMeister:
just check what those libraries do
Using the 1.19 version of this with the 1.19 version of Architectury API crashes my game and it's unplayable.
1.19 yeeeeeee thank you
Maybe you should update the dependacy for Architectury. Upon a google search, I'm directed to a version of Architectury that isn't recognised by your mod. Though you do have the link to the deprecated version on this very mod page which does work, I still think it would be best to update your mod to recognise both versions.
EDIT: Also your mod places a red X at light levels below 8 in the 1.18.1 game version. Obviously this doesn't help at all seeing that mob spawns were changed to light levels below 1 (i.e. 0). Please fix this, this mod has always been extremely helpful to me. I'd be sad to see it become useless.
In reply to DoctorPotassium:
This mod comes with its own settings menu (pictured above) that includes a slider to adjust the light level where the red X is placed. Just slide it down to 0, or like in my case, down to 1. This way I can be confident my areas are spawn-proof.
In reply to DoctorPotassium:
only use and trust the versions and mods from this website and project
if it was the "architectury api unused" curseforge page then that was for fabric only
but they moved the forge and fabric versions under this one unified project.
so make sure you are downloading the correct version
as many folk say "it's broken, fix it" when it usually turns out they've downloaded the forge version when using fabric or the fabric version when using forge
and as Ralivann said you can adjust the slider for light level
does it work similiar way from shader show light overlay? (complementary shader)
can you add the ability to see chunk borders please?
In reply to Dop3Smok3:
F3+G , already part of the game
In reply to Dop3Smok3:
This is a feature in vanilla minecraft. Press F3+g.
Cloth-API is completely broken and crashed minecraft on startup because of an invalid modID, is there any chance that the 1.16 version will be updated without that dependency?
Hello,
Now "quiltmc"-launcher is the new default launcher for mods to load and Fabric is no longer supported. Can we expect an update for this mod?
Thank you very much :D
In reply to MennoGamed:
what do you mean quiltmc is "new default launcher" ? O_o , it's just a fork of fabric.
so fabric itself is still very much fabric and still very much around and still the popular option
but when you say fabric is no longer supported do you mean quilt has went full quilt and dropping fabric support side?
if so then it would be just another mod loader at the end of the day next to forge, rift, fabric, liteloader
also standalone quilt itself wouldn't have much of a following yet
and then it's up to the mod devs if they want to support a new thing.
it's also not supported on curseforge itself yet
Just letting you know that this Forge file is listed as Fabric: https://www.curseforge.com/minecraft/mc-mods/light-overlay/files/3668242
is there a way to change the toggle botton? i have a swedish keyboard so it doesnt register the F bottons for some reason. nvm im a dumbass and didnt see the last 4 words
not working ive tried everything i can but nothing.
In reply to MercedesCLA45AMG:
you are using the wrong file I believe as there is not a lightoverlay 6.1 , there IS a 6.0.1 which that file is only for 1.17 and 1.17.1 , do not use that for 18.2
you need to use [Fabric 1.18.2] v6.0.5 file for 18.2
https://www.curseforge.com/minecraft/mc-mods/light-overlay/files/3668243 for 18.2
