Dragon Variants is a visual expansion addon for Ice and Fire that brings greater variety and personality to your dragons without replacing or altering the original Ice and Fire dragon system.

Discover 60 unique Fire, Ice, and Lightning Dragon appearances, including 48 brand-new custom variants, while keeping the original Ice and Fire dragons fully intact.

🐉 60 Dragon Appearances

Dragon Variants currently expands three dragon types:

🔥 Fire Dragons — 20 Appearances Red Green Bronze Gray

Each family contains the original Ice and Fire appearance plus 4 unique custom variants.

❄️ Ice Dragons — 20 Appearances Blue Sapphire Silver White

Each family contains the original appearance plus 4 custom variants.

⚡ Lightning Dragons — 20 Appearances Electric Blue Electric Purple Electric Bronze Electric Black

Each family contains the original appearance plus 4 custom variants.

Every custom variant has its own dedicated texture designed to remain visually connected to its parent family while providing a distinct appearance.

🥚 Family-Based Dragon Eggs

DragonVariants works naturally with the existing Ice and Fire egg system.

When a dragon egg hatches, it keeps its original Ice and Fire family while selecting one of the five appearances belonging to that family.

For example, a Red Fire Dragon egg can produce:

Each appearance has an equal 20% chance of being selected.

The same system applies to Ice and Lightning Dragons.

No new egg items or replacement egg textures are required.

🌎 Natural Dragon Spawning

Variants aren't limited to eggs.

Naturally spawned Fire, Ice, and Lightning Dragons can also receive a variant from their corresponding family.

Each of the five appearances has an equal 20% probability.

Existing dragons that were already present in a world when DragonVariants is installed can also receive a variant the first time they are processed.

Once assigned, the variant is saved and does not randomly change during normal gameplay.

⚖️ Original Ice and Fire Compatibility

DragonVariants is designed as an addon, not a replacement.

The original Ice and Fire dragon family/variant data remains untouched.

Custom variants use independent DragonVariants data, allowing the original Ice and Fire system to continue handling:

DragonVariants focuses on appearance and variant selection.

🐲 Original Scale Drops

Custom variants do not introduce new scale items.

Every variant drops the same original Ice and Fire scale as its parent family.

For example:

Ember Red Dragon → Red Dragon Scales

Storm Azure Dragon → Electric Blue family scale

Obsidian Ash Dragon → Gray Dragon Scales

This keeps the addon fully integrated with the existing Ice and Fire progression and crafting systems.

🎨 Unique Textures

Every new appearance has its own dedicated texture.

The custom dragons are not simple recolors. Each variant is designed around its parent family's visual identity while introducing differences in:

Primary coloration Secondary colors Scale shading Wing coloration Head and facial details Horn and claw coloration Elemental accents Overall atmosphere

The goal is to make every variant feel like a natural member of its original Ice and Fire family, rather than a basic color swap.

🔧 Lightweight Addon Design

DragonVariants does not modify the Ice and Fire JAR.

The addon maintains its own variant information while allowing Ice and Fire to continue operating normally.

This means DragonVariants can be removed independently without permanently modifying Ice and Fire itself.

🧪 Commands & Testing

DragonVariants includes commands for spawning and testing individual appearances, making it easy to explore the entire collection.

You can directly summon specific Fire, Ice, and Lightning Dragon variants without relying on random generation.

The /dragonvariants list command also provides an overview of the available appearances.
