Description
Crossings
Crossings makes Macaw's Bridges generate naturally throughout the world. Bridges are planned around the surrounding terrain instead of placing the same fixed structure everywhere.
Crossings was originally designed and tuned for Terralith + Tectonic, where large rivers, valleys, and dramatic mountain gaps give the bridge generator plenty to work with. Neither mod is required, though — Crossings also works with vanilla terrain and other compatible world-generation setups.
River crossings and mountain gaps are measured before a bridge is built, and the bridge style is chosen to better fit the local biome and terrain.
Features
- Natural bridges across rivers and mountain gaps
- Terrain-aware span, height, clearance, and support placement
- Biome-aware bridge materials and styles
- Designed around Terralith + Tectonic terrain generation
- Also works with vanilla terrain — Terralith and Tectonic are optional
- Supports normal river bridges and occasional 5-wide river bridges
- Spacing rules prevent bridges from clustering too closely together
- Configurable river and mountain generation chances
- Configurable span, spacing, gap-depth, and bridge-clearance limits
- Combined bridge structure tag:
#crossings:bridges - Designed to use Macaw's Bridges blocks without redistributing its assets
Recommended World Generation
For the kind of dramatic terrain shown in the screenshots, I recommend using:
They are optional and are not required for Crossings to function.
Crossings can also be used with normal Minecraft terrain. Different terrain-generation mods may produce different bridge frequency and placement simply because the available rivers, valleys, and gaps are different.
Requirements
- Macaw's Bridges 3.1.2 or newer
Crossings is a Client & Server mod. For multiplayer world generation, it must be installed on the server.
Configuration
If Mod Menu is installed, Crossings provides an in-game settings screen.
Available settings include:
- River spacing — 4–64 chunks
- Mountain spacing — 4–96 chunks
- River chance — 0–100%
- Mountain chance — 0–100%
- River minimum span — 8–48 blocks
- River maximum span — up to 96 blocks
- Mountain maximum span — 48–192 blocks
- River gap depth — 1–8 blocks
- Bridge clearance — 32–256 blocks
- 5-wide river bridges — on/off
Generation settings apply to new chunks. Restart Minecraft after changing them.
On a dedicated server, edit:
config/crossings.json
on the server itself and restart the server.
Compatibility
- Terralith: Recommended / optional
- Tectonic: Recommended / optional
- Mod Menu: Recommended / optional
- Macaw's Bridges: Required
Crossings does not include or redistribute Macaw's Bridges, Terralith, or Tectonic.
Because Crossings reacts to the terrain it finds, other world-generation mods may also work, but bridge placement and frequency can vary with the shape of the generated world.
