Description

Copper Golem Refined

Your little copper helper, with a better plan.

I made Copper Golem Refined because I wanted copper golems to become useful everyday helpers. Watching them check the same chests, wander around or struggle with a delivery made me want to give them a clearer job. This mod improves how they find destinations, move supplies and recover when a chest is full or unreachable, while keeping their familiar Minecraft character.

Choose your edition: Minecraft 26.3 uses the Fabric edition. Minecraft 1.20.1 uses the separate Forge edition, which requires Copper Age Backport 0.1.4 by Smallinger. The Forge 1.0.0 file was submitted on 1 November 2026 and is awaiting approval. The features below describe 1.0.0; screenshots show the Fabric edition.

A place for every supply

Chest supply settings: filters, target stock and refill threshold

Sneak + right-click a normal or trapped chest with an empty main hand to open its supply settings. Select one of the nine filter slots, then click an item in your inventory to copy a template. Your item is not consumed.

Choose how much to keep and when to refill it. For example, keep 256 items and start refilling below 65, as shown above. Use + / − to adjust by one, or Shift-click to adjust by 64. Fill chest uses available slots and matching partial stacks; existing unrelated items stay in place. Clear a filter whenever you want to change the plan.

More useful storage helpers

  • Up to a stack per trip: carry up to 64 items, respecting smaller stack limits.
  • Shared storage: several golems can use the same chest, including while you have it open.
  • Higher chests: reach three stacked chest rows from the same floor when access and lids are clear.
  • Larger work area: search up to 96 blocks along each horizontal axis and 16 blocks above or below the home copper chest.
  • Safer deliveries: recheck destinations and return undeliverable cargo to the copper chest when possible.
  • Stay near home: idle golems remain close to their copper chest.

Golems still need a walkable route. Their search does not load chunks or let them access chests through walls.

A helping hand at your rail depot

Park a loaded chest minecart in the work area. When a suitable destination has space, the golem can unload the cart and sort its contents using the same filters and stock targets. Moving carts and unopened structure-loot carts are left alone. The copper chest remains its home.

choose what your copper chest does

Preview of the copper chest workplace menu

Version 1.0.0 includes an optional workplace menu. Sneak + right-click a copper chest with an empty hand and choose Sort into storage, Supply furnaces only, or Supply furnaces + sort storage. The grey button indicates the active task. This lets you reserve one copper chest for smelting supplies while another handles normal storage.

Golems can also collect from several nearby copper chests while keeping their own home. Task reservations let one golem claim a particular pickup before walking over, so the others can look for useful work instead of all arriving for the same batch. Shared chests remain available for other tasks.

let golems run your furnaces

Preview of furnace input, fuel and collection settings

Furnace help is optional. Open the furnace settings with sneak + right-click and an empty hand, then enable Golem help. Choose the item to smelt and the fuel using the two template slots, or leave them on Auto for automatic selection. The Auto button resets that filter; it does not open a separate item list.

Set how many finished items should be ready before collection: 8, 16, 32 or 64. This avoids a separate trip for every ingot. Golems bring input and fuel from a copper chest assigned to furnace work, then take finished products to suitable storage. If an empty fuel slot stays unfilled for ten seconds, they can bring fuel. Furnaces and blast furnaces are supported.

keep the smelting XP

Stored XP and the Collect XP button in the normal blast furnace window

Automated output collection does not have to waste your smelting experience. Version 1.0.0 adds Collect XP to the normal furnace window as well as the settings menu. The displayed ~XP value estimates what is stored; collect it yourself when you visit the furnace.

Getting started

  1. Set up a copper golem with a copper chest and clear paths to your storage.
  2. Label destination chests with item frames, or use their supply menus for filters and stock targets.
  3. Put items into the copper chest, or park a loaded chest minecart nearby.
  4. Optionally assign a copper chest to furnace work and enable help on the furnaces you want to automate.

Installation and feedback

  • Minecraft 26.3: Fabric Loader 0.19.5 or newer, Java 25. Fabric API is not required by the current build.
  • Minecraft 1.20.1: Forge 47.4.10, Java 17 and Copper Age Backport 0.1.4. The Forge edition extends the backport's existing copper golems and chests. Thanks to Smallinger for the backport.

Install the matching edition and its required dependency on both client and server. Do not mix Fabric and Forge files.

The mod is being tested and improved step by step. Complex storage layouts still need clear access and may reveal edge cases. Feedback in the comments is welcome: tell me what works, what feels confusing, or where a golem gets stuck.

1.0.0 update at a glance

  • Multiple copper-chest inputs and shared storage tasks.
  • Optional furnace supply with input/fuel filters, batch collection and 10-second fuel refill.
  • Input refill starts when 32 items fit; smaller available supplies are still used.
  • Stored smelting XP can be collected from furnace menus with a visible estimate.
  • Reserved pickup tasks reduce redundant trips; clearer English/German controls.
