Colored Shulkers

A small mod that improves colored shulkers and adds colored shulker shells!

A highly configurable mod that improves colored Shulkers!

curseforge modrinth

If you're a modpack developer wanting to add Colored Shulkers to a modpack distributed outside of CurseForge or Modrinth, use File Director to avoid reuploading Colored Shulkers' files.

Colored Shulkers hopes to make Shulkers a little more interesting and less overlooked in heavily modded playthroughs (at least a little bit :P) by allowing colored Shulkers to appear in End Cities and by giving Shulker Shells new uses!

This mod does not add any new Shulker entities. Fun fact: The color of a Shulker entity could actually be changed by commands in Vanilla as far back as 1.11!

This mod backports the proper Purple Shulker from 1.13, including a Purple Shulker Box and Purple Shulker Shell! Also adds a rare Rainbow Shulker (that cycles through colors in a fading rainbow effect), whose shells can be shattered into many Shulker Shells by right-clicking.

Vanilla's old "Purple Shulker Box" item is treated as a "colorless" Shulker Box, and is now simply called "Shulker Box". It can still be made by using Vanilla's Shulker Shells, or by placing a colored Shulker Box by itself in a crafting table (any contents within the colored Shulker Box will remain inside).

Colored Shulkers transforms Vanilla's BlockShulkerBox.getBlockByColor(color) method to make it return the new Purple Shulker Box, so any mods using that will also use the new Purple Shulker Box.

Shulkers and Shulker Boxes can be dyed any color by right-clicking them with colored Shulker Shells, or any Forge-regognized dye item. Shulkers and Shulker Boxes can also be washed by right-clicking them with a water bottle, or any item that contains at least 250mb of water.

Shulker entities with a color will now drop colored Shelker Shell items with a corresponding color! Can also be crafted with a dye item and a Shuker Shell.

These can be crafted back into the Vanilla colorless Shulker Shell item, crafted into Shulker Boxes of their color, or turned into 8 of their corresponding dye by crafting them together with a bowl.

The bowl recipe + shell dying recipe can be used together to easily get lots of dyes! Support for various modded grinders also exists, as an alternative to using a bowl. The recipes to create blue dye, black dye, brown dye, or white dye are only generated if any of the following mods are present (which add the missing dye items):

Colored Shulkers adds special support for the following mods:

  • Bauble Shulker Boxes Supports the new Purple Shulker Box and Rainbow Shulker Box.
  • Bookshelf All new items are added to their respective ore dictionary entries (unless disabled by Bookshelf via its config).
  • Industrial Craft / IC2 Classic Right-clicking Shulkers and Shulker Boxes with Paint Rollers will dye them that color.
  • Just Enough Resources New mob loot entries for colored Shulkers are added to Just Enough Resources.
  • Quark All improvements to Shulker Boxes support the new Purple Shulker Box and Rainbow Shulker Box.
  • Shulker Drops Two Supports colored Shulker Shells.
  • Shulker Tooltip Supports the new Purple Shulker Box and Rainbow Shulker Box.

Pretty much everything in this mod can be customized through its config! Config settings include:

  • Colored Shulker Shell Drops: True by default. When a Shulker is killed, it drops a Shulker Shell based on that Shulker's color.
  • Colored Shulker Spawning (End City): Enabled by default. Colored Shulkers have a chance to appear instead of colorless Shulkers when generated by an End City.

  • Colored Shulker Spawning (Natural): Disabled by default. Colored Shulkers have a chance to appear instead of colorless Shulkers when spawned naturally by the world.
  • Colored Shulker Weight (Black): 1 by default. The weight of a black shulker color. A higher value means a higher chance of spawning when compared to other colors.

  • Colored Shulker Weight (Brown): 1 by default. The weight of a brown shulker color. A higher value means a higher chance of spawning when compared to other colors.

  • End City Beetroot Soup Chance: 0 by default. The probability of one Beetroot Soup item generating inside of an End City loot chest. • Rainbow Shulker Shell Shattering: True by default. Rainbow Shulker may be shattered into XP and Shulker Shells by right-clicking. • Shulker Dying: True by default. Shulkers and Shulker Boxes may be dyed or washed with certain items by right-clicking.

Useful if you want to allow Shulker dying, while only allowing colored Shulker Shells to be obtainable from Shulkers that generated in the color.
  • Shulker Dying Visual Effects: False by default. Dying a Shulker or Shulker Box plays similar effects to shearing a Mooshroom.
  • Shulker Dying With Dyes: True by default. Shulkers and Shulker Boxes may be dyed by right-clicking with any Forge-recognized dye item. If this is disabled, they are still dyeable with Shulker Shells.
  • Shulker Shell Color In Tooltip: False by default. Add the color of the Shulker Shell to the item tooltip, rather than to the item name.
  • Shulker Shell Dye Amount (From Recipes): 8 by default. The amount of dye that's yielded by placing a colored Shulker Shell and a Bowl in a crafting table, or by grinding up a colored Shulker Shell in a supported modded grinder block. Set to 0 to disable.
  • Shulker Shell Dye Amount (From Shattering): 0 by default. The amount of dye that's yielded by shattering a colored Shulker Shell. Set to 0 to disable.
  • Shulker Shell Dying Recipes: True by default. Add crafting recipes for making colored Shulker Shells by using any Shulker Shell with a Forge-recognized dye item.
  • Shulker Shell Shattering XP: 0 by default. The amount of XP gained by shattering a colored Shulker Shell. Set to 0 to disable.
