Ascension Scaling : Mob Leveling

Give mobs persistent levels from 1 to 300, scale difficulty with exploration or Ascension Paths progression, and customize their stats, gear, and rewards.

Ascension Scaling adds persistent mob levels and configurable difficulty progression to Minecraft 1.21.1.

By default, newly scaled mobs become stronger farther from the center of each dimension. Build a safer home near the center, then travel outward to encounter higher-level enemies, stronger equipment, and tougher bosses. With Ascension Paths installed, you can instead scale new mobs according to a nearby player's progression.

Choose How Your World Scales

Distance Scaling

The default mode uses horizontal distance from the configured center of each dimension.

Distance from the default center Approximate mob level
Within 512 blocks 1
1,000 blocks 7
10,000 blocks 30
100,000 blocks 95
500,000 blocks 212
1,000,000 blocks or farther 300

The default center is X=0, Z=0. Server owners can change centers, the safe radius, progression distance, and dimension-specific profiles.

Ascension Player Scaling

Enable the optional player-level mode to use a nearby living Survival or Adventure player's effective Ascension Paths progression. Mob levels remain capped at 300.

This mode uses the nearest eligible local player. It falls back to distance scaling when Paths or a suitable player is unavailable. Distance scaling is the default; player-level scaling must be enabled explicitly.

Levels That Stay With the Mob

A mob receives its level when it is first scaled and keeps that profile. Moving it, approaching with a different player, or reloading the world does not repeatedly apply bonuses or recalculate its level.

Server configuration changes apply to new profiles. Existing saved mob profiles remain intact, and scaling previously unmarked mobs from an existing world is an optional setting.

Configure the Challenge

Separate curves control maximum health, attack damage, armor, movement speed, supported flight speed, and Ascension kill rewards.

The default level-300 targets include 50× health, 80× general attack damage, and 2× movement/supported flight speed. Health increases respect the attribute limits of your modpack. Separate armor curves distinguish mobs with supported armor loadouts or naturally worn armor from other creatures. Suitable creatures in the latter group can reach a 40-point armor target without reducing stronger existing armor.

Enemies, bosses, passive mobs, aquatic creatures, and wild tameable mobs are included by default. Scaling strengthens existing behavior; it does not give passive animals a new attack AI. Entity exclusions and datapack tags let server owners choose which creatures participate.

Stronger Equipment and Special Attacks

Suitable humanoid mobs can receive progressively stronger armor and weapons, reaching Netherite gear with Protection IV at high levels. Existing special boss equipment is preserved.

Supported archers keep their bows or crossbows and gain level-based enchantments. Epic Fight weapon upgrades preserve supported weapon families. Iron's Spells 'n Spellbooks integration scales caster spell power while avoiding a second damage multiplier on already-scaled spell hits.

Creepers use their own explosion damage and radius curves. Their default progression is separate from the general attack multiplier.

Scaling-generated or upgraded equipment is not dropped by default. Native boss rewards, loot tables, and unmarked equipment remain available. Server owners can enable generated equipment drops if that suits their pack.

Compatible With Pet Progression

When a supported wild creature is tamed, Scaling removes its wild level and its own bonuses. The creature's natural properties and bonuses from other mods are preserved.

With Ascension Pets, the new companion can then follow its own pet progression. Its wild level is not transferred, and reloading does not restore removed wild bonuses.

Rewards and Readable Levels

Nearby mobs display a colored level label above their names. Custom names are preserved, and the wild level label disappears after supported taming.

With Ascension Paths, kill rewards follow the realized health growth. With Ascension Parties, the adjusted base reward can then be distributed according to party damage contribution. Scaling does not multiply vanilla experience or replace normal loot tables.

Server Configuration

Tune stat curves, distance progression, dimension profiles, exclusions, equipment chances, drop rules, creeper explosions, and the optional player-level mode.

Administrator commands provide status, mode selection, and mob-profile inspection through /ascensionscaling. The level labels support English and Turkish.

Requirements and Integrations

  • Minecraft 1.21.1
  • NeoForge 21.1.248+, using a compatible 21.1.x build
  • Java 21
  • Install the mod on both client and server.

Ascension Paths, Parties, and Pets are optional. If Paths is installed, version 1.37.0 or newer is required. Distance scaling works without any other Ascension mod.

Optional integration features are provided for Epic Fight and Iron's Spells 'n Spellbooks. Custom boss abilities and movement systems may need additional compatibility support.
