Description

Artificer's Almanac is an addon for Iron's Spells 'n Spellbooks about crafting your own staffs. Forge parts from over 200 materials and assemble a staff that fits your school. Salvage the staffs you find, break arcane seals in hidden vaults, and record it all in your Almanac. It works on its own; with Spell Atlas installed, the two books work as one.

🔨 Modular staffs

  • Build a staff at the Artificer's Table from four parts: core, crystal, shaft and an optional pommel.
  • 217 materials from vanilla, Iron's Spells, metals from c: tags and other mods (Twilight Forest, Aether, Cataclysm, Create, Mekanism, Botania, Ars Nouveau, Undergarden, Malum, Iron's addons...). A material only appears when its mod is installed.
  • School cores: forge a core from a school's material, or from any material plus that school's focus. The staff's head changes shape with the school: claws, flames, ice shards, a halo, tentacles with an eye...
  • Rarity and affixes: Common to Legendary plus Cataclysmic, with 21 affixes (some of them cursed), set bonuses for parts of one origin, and legendary staffs dropped by bosses.
  • Imbue a spell into a core with an Iron's scroll. The staff then casts it like a weapon imbued at the Arcane Anvil, and the Arcane Anvil can upgrade modular staffs too.
  • Four table tiers, from Apprentice to Archmage, unlocked with Artificer's Notes.
  • Stats are plain attribute modifiers, so every stats screen shows them. Hold Shift over a part to compare it with the part of the staff in your hand.

⚒️ Salvaging

The Salvage Anvil takes apart any staff: Iron's own, addon staffs and your modular ones. You get parts you can mix on the table, plus Arcane Dust. Staffs are recognised automatically, and packs can add or exclude items. Arcane Anvil upgrades stay on the core and move to the next staff that core joins.

🔮 Seals and vaults

  • Arcane seals guard loot: cast the right school, repeat a sequence, cast in harmony with a friend, aim a beam through mirrors, or echo a spell with a Siphon. A failed seal gives Mana Sickness and silences the school for a while.
  • Sealed Vaults hidden underground, and Sealed Caches: loot chests that seal themselves when first approached (works with Lootr).
  • A practice seal you can craft, with no rewards and no penalties.
  • Abandoned workshops on the surface with a table, an anvil, parts and notes.

⚡ Casting mechanics

  • Overcast: cast past your mana into mana debt, at a risk.
  • Spell Siphon: a curio that absorbs spell projectiles fired at you (the cursed one also area spells) and releases the stored charge.
  • Contingency charms that cast on their own when you are low on health, falling, burning, drowning or surrounded.
  • Unidentified scrolls: read one blind for a gamble, or identify it at the Arcane Lectern.
  • Manasteel: a new metal from manalite ore (in the Overworld, Nether, End and other mods' dimensions), with tools and armour that use mana instead of durability, a 3×3 pickaxe and a double jump.

📘 The Almanac

A book (item, key or inventory button) with eight tabs: Collection (materials, affixes, seals, legendaries, sets), Statistics, 27 Quests in five chapters from Apprentice to Archmage, milestone Rewards, 19 Titles, Perks, Lore and a Guide that explains the whole mod.

🔧 For servers and pack makers

  • Server config per world (artificers_almanac-server.toml): every module on or off, salvage loss chance, Overcast, Siphon, PvP multipliers and more.
  • Datapacks for materials, catalysts, affixes, sets, legendaries, salvage overrides, contingency charms, seals and sealed caches. Each file can say "requires": "modid".
  • A small public API (events and queries) for other mods.

Required mods

  • Minecraft 1.21.1, NeoForge 21.1.250 or newer
  • Iron's Spells 'n Spellbooks 1.21.1-3.16 or newer (with Curios, which Iron's needs)
  • Install on both the client and the server.

Optional mod support

Nothing below is required. Each entry only switches on when its mod is installed. The newest integrations come first.

  • Spell Atlas (1.31.1 or newer, strongly recommended): the two books work as one. The Almanac's titles join the atlas's title list, artificer perks are the Artifice group of the Perk Shop, forging, salvaging, identifying scrolls and breaking seals count for daily and weekly challenges and give Arcane Points, a core in one of your affinity schools hits harder, spell mastery raises the level a spell can be imbued at, defeated nemeses and closed anomalies drop staff parts, manasteel armour counts as a gear set, and duels get an Equal power option. Each book has a button that opens the other.
  • Tempest Almanac: its astralite joins manasteel as starsteel, a stronger armour metal.
  • Lootr: Sealed Caches work with Lootr's per-player chests.
  • Apotheosis: gem dust can be used as a forging material.
  • FTB Quests: an Almanac chapter is created on first start, and every quest also has an advancement.
  • JEI (and EMI through JEI): forging and salvaging recipes with their costs, and item descriptions.
  • Lodestone: richer particles for seals and spells. Without it vanilla particles are used.
  • Iron's Spells addons (Cataclysm Spellbooks, Hazennstuff, Monster Spellbooks, Ace's Spell Utils, Wind Spellbooks, Some Make Spells and others): their staffs can be salvaged, their schools get cores and shaped heads, and their materials appear in the forge.
  • Material mods (Twilight Forest, Aether, Cataclysm, Create, Mekanism, Botania, Ars Nouveau, Undergarden, Malum, Forbidden Arcanus, Deeper and Darker, Alex's Caves, Galosphere, Occultism and others): each adds forging materials, and several add rich manalite ore in their dimensions.
