Space Between Blocks
Space Between Blocks is a science-fiction survival and exploration experience built as a complete MAIN experience for the D.A.I. Engine.
Your mission begins aboard an Imperial flagship above Aurod // T:12942.
Proceed through the ship, enter the Drop Bay, open the physical deployment hatch, and fall from orbit toward an alien world below.
This is not a menu-driven mission.
You physically leave the ship.
Aurod
Aurod uses a persistent 0.4g environment, giving planetary traversal and descent a distinct low-gravity feel.
Your first assignment is simple:
Collect and carry 12 Aurod Vinewood.
The objective tracks the qualifying material actually present in your inventory rather than relying on a disconnected kill or collection counter.
A persistent multiplayer-safe quest HUD tracks your progress throughout the surface mission.
The Imperial Field MultiTool
Every explorer receives an Imperial Field MultiTool.
Right-click to rotate its physical three-head assembly between:
The tool uses a four-frame rotary transformation sequence before changing into the selected iron-tier tool configuration.
It has infinite durability and remains part of your persistent field equipment.
Field Provisions
Space Between Blocks includes its own survival-food system.
Food Parcel
A compact sealed field provision.
Food Ration
A denser meal with increased hunger and saturation restoration.
Food Feast
A placeable shared meal containing three servings.
Each serving can fully restore Hunger and Saturation, allowing the Feast to function as a reusable expedition food station before it is exhausted.
Extraction
Once enough Vinewood has been collected, return to the physical extraction beacon.
What follows is not the extraction you were promised.
The signal disappears.
The flagship begins taking catastrophic damage.
Hull sections move, impacts tear through the ship, debris erupts around you, and the mission changes immediately:
RUN.
Reach the emergency pod before the destruction sequence finishes.
Emergency Escape
The escape sequence is physically played through the world.
Reach the pod.
Launch.
Ascend away from the dying ship.
Then wake somewhere else.
Fleet Network: OFFLINE
Command Link: LOST
Navigation: 1 COORDINATE RECOVERED
The only destination still available is:
AUROD // T:16950
Beyond the Tutorial
The post-crash experience transitions from the private opening mission into a persistent survival framework.
Each player receives their own physical ship context while a much larger shared version of Aurod is generated only when the story actually reaches it.
The enormous shared planet is deliberately not generated during ordinary startup.
Instead, DAI prepares it when players reach the relevant phase of the experience, reducing unnecessary loading and world-generation cost.
Players can travel between their ship and the shared planetary surface through physical Drop Bay and extraction systems.
Physical World Design
Space Between Blocks favors authored physical interactions over abstract menus.
Systems include:
- Real ship interiors
- Physical Drop Bay hatches
- Literal planetary descent
- Extraction platforms
- Emergency pod traversal
- Persistent ship locations
- Shared planetary travel
- Hull-breach recovery
- Death recovery
- Surface checkpoints
- Staged world construction
The experience also includes modular authored ship structures such as:
- Core
- Engineering
- Cargo
- Corridors
- Transverse corridors
- Drop Bay
Multiplayer
Progress is stored independently per player.
Private opening plots and ships are spatially separated, while the later Aurod surface is shared.
Quest displays are also designed so players at different stages of Vinewood collection can progress simultaneously without overwriting each other's HUD.
DAI 3.3
The first public v0.2.0 release modernizes the original development build around DAI 3.3.
It uses:
- MAIN experience lifecycle events
- Automatic persistent world creation
- DAI world-generation definitions
- DAI reaction-driven MultiTool controls
- DAI authored structure definitions
- Custom title-screen integration
- Managed companion Resource Pack support
- First-join and reconnect lifecycle actions
- Optimized per-player runtime dispatch
Fall.
