Description

Sixty-six fish, and an ocean that behaves like one
Animal Fun: Fish fills Bedrock's water with the animals that should have been in it all along — sharks and rays, a reef full of color, open-ocean speedsters, the fish in your local river, the things that live where the light stops, and a shelf of genuinely strange bottom dwellers.
They are not decoration. Species have their own temperaments, predators hunt a real prey list and flee real threats, remoras hitch rides on sharks, thirteen species breach the surface, and everything drops something worth cooking. And when you want to keep them, sixteen aquarium pieces — a diver, a treasure chest, a castle, a shipwreck and the plants, filters and feeders to go with them — turn a glass box into a tank they will actually use.
This is an expansion pack. It needs Animal Fun - Land (base) v1.54.0 or newer to do anything at all, and v1.57.3 or newer for the aquarium pieces to heal and feed — the base pack owns the settings menu, the Field Guide, taming and the spawn controls. Install that first.

The roster
Sharks & Rays — 11
The whole cast, from the 4.5-block great white to the deep-water goblin shark and the sawfish. The whale shark is 7.2 blocks of filter feeder, and the largest animal in the pack.

Reef & Tropical — 12
A coral reef you can actually stock. Clownfish, tangs, angelfish, the mandarinfish, and a cleaner wrasse.

Ocean Predators — 10
Blue-water hunters and the bait that keeps them fed — marlin, sailfish, swordfish, tuna and wahoo above; sardines and mackerel below.

Freshwater — 11
Rivers and swamps get their own list: bass, trout, pike, perch, catfish, koi, sturgeon, alligator gar, piranha, arapaima and the archerfish.

Deep Sea — 9
Deep ocean only, and below y=40 for most of them. The anglerfish carries its lure, the giant oarfish is six blocks of ribbon, and the coelacanth — a fish that was supposed to have died out with the dinosaurs and turned up in a fishing net in 1938 — sits in the dark with them.

Odd & Bottom Dwellers — 13
The pack's favorite category. Pufferfish, lionfish, moray and electric eels, seahorse, flounder, a mudskipper that walks out onto the beach, the ocean sunfish, and a leafy sea dragon.

Built to the right size
Every species is scaled against its real animal on one curve, so the lineup is honest: a blue marlin no longer out-measures a great white, and a seahorse is the four-tenths of a block it ought to be. Collision boxes stay deliberately small so a seven-block shark can still path through ordinary water — but each big species carries a proper centered hit box, so hitting one feels like hitting the fish you can see, not the thin box inside it.

Four coats, sixty-six palettes
Every fish rolls a coat when it spawns — untinted, a deeper morph, a hue shift, or a pale one — and the wash is derived from that species' own texture, so a great white gets shark grays and a mandarinfish gets mandarinfish colors. Shoals look like shoals, not clones.

Everything is worth catching
All 66 species have a loot table and an experience reward, and every catch cooks. Six raw types, six cooked, each smeltable in a furnace, smoker or campfire. Bigger fish give more, and every species drops at least one bone.

Bucket any of them
Right-click any of the 66 with a water bucket and you get a Bucket of Fish naming the species you caught. Use it and that exact fish swims back out, and you get your water bucket back.
One item covers the whole roster — the species travels on the item itself, so there is no 66-entry creative menu and no fudging: a clownfish goes in, a clownfish comes out. Fish carrying a rider are left alone.

Build an aquarium
Sixteen aquarium pieces, all named Aquarium … (zoo), so searching aquarium finds the tank pieces and searching zoo finds them beside every zoo piece from the base pack. Every one of the 66 fish swims to them on its own, and water flows into every piece, so set them down in a filled tank or fill the tank around them afterwards. What they do — the healing and the feeding — is run by the base pack (Land v1.57.3 or newer), which also lists them on an Aquarium page of the Field Guide's zoo kit. On an older base pack they still place, animate and draw fish; they just heal nobody.
Four of them are showpieces — small animated models that face the way you place them:

| Aquarium Diver — a brass-helmeted diver who bobs, looks about and puffs bubbles from his helmet. | Aquarium Treasure Chest — the lid rattles, swings open with a burst of bubbles and a glint of gold, and thuds shut. |

| Aquarium Castle — windows flicker with light; the drawbridge rises on its chains and drops with a thud. | Aquarium Shipwreck — a leaning mast with a torn flag streaming in the current, and bubbles leaking from the hull. |

| Piece | What it does |
|---|---|
| Rock Cave | A rock arch to shelter under; one heart, and the odd bubble escapes from the roof |
| Air Stone | A steady column of bubbles fish come to play in; half a heart a visit |
| Feeding Ring | Holds four meals — kelp, dried kelp, sea pickles, cod, salmon, tropical fish, seeds or seagrass; each visit eats one and heals two hearts, and flakes drift down while it has food |
| Driftwood | A bleached branch small fish shelter among; half a heart a visit |
| Java Fern · Anubias · Eelgrass | Plants that sway in the current; half a heart a visit |
| Diver · Treasure Chest · Castle · Shipwreck · Amphora | Decoration that moves (above); the amphora lets a bubble rise now and then |
| Heater | The coil glows and fades, and gives a little light |
| Filter | Water tumbles from the spout and bubbles churn below |
| Gravel | Colored substrate for the tank floor |
| Glass Lid | Counts as a wall, so a Species Placard reads a lidded tank as closed |
All of the motion runs on the client: the four showpieces are animated by the game itself, and the water, plants, castle windows and heater are blended flipbook textures. The server only keeps each model facing the way its block was placed, and only while a player is within 40 blocks.
How they behave
- A real food chain. Predators hunt a curated prey list, not "anything fish-shaped" — sharks no longer eat other sharks, and nothing goes after an animal several times its own size. Prey flee what actually hunts them in water.
- Temperaments per species — passive, defensive or aggressive, set to match the real animal and changeable for any species from the base pack's menu.
- Hitchhikers. Remoras, sea lampreys and cleaner wrasses seek out bigger fish and travel with them, exactly as they do on a real reef.
- Five animation states per species — cruise, a slow hover when idling, a hard tail-beat dash, a bite synced to the actual attack, and a flop when beached. Each is derived from that species' own swim cycle, so nothing moves generically.
- Breaching. Thirteen species break the surface — you will see marlin and sharks come out of the water.
- Reactive defenses. Lionfish spines, stingray sting, hagfish slime and the electric eel's shock all fire on contact.
- A calm ocean by default. The base pack's hunting-rate dial throttles how often predators hunt, and mob-kill drop suppression is on, so a busy reef doesn't carpet the seabed in items.

Spawning is built on the vanilla water-mob template and calibrated against vanilla's own cod, so these fish turn up at a sensible rate in the right water — warm and lukewarm ocean for the reef, deep ocean below y=40 for the abyssal species, rivers and swamps for freshwater, and the beach for the mudskipper.
Every sound in the pack was generated for it.
Riding, if you want it
The saddle and harness machinery is wired and working on all 66, and the tack is real geometry rather than a texture swap — you can see the straps on the fish. Riding is off by default on every species; turn a species on in /af:menu if you want to ride it.

Install
- Install and activate the Animal Fun base pack first. Without it this expansion registers nothing and has no menu.
- Import the
.mcaddonand activate both its behavior and resource packs in your world. - Pack order doesn't matter — the base pack just has to be active.
Vibrant Visuals: supported since v1.10.9. It stays grayed out while any active resource pack lacks support, so update all five Animal Fun packs together (Land v1.61.1 or newer).
After updating any Animal Fun pack, exit the world and re-enter before judging the result. Entities hold stale state until a reload, and the symptom looks exactly like "the update didn't apply".

What the base pack gives you for these fish
- Per-species enable/disable, spawn frequency and mob caps
- The craftable Field Guide, which populates from this pack automatically
- Taming, breeding and the saddle/harness handling
- The hunting-rate dial and mob-kill drop suppression
- The on-screen entity tag
The pack family
330 species across five packs, all sharing one base pack and one settings menu.

Troubleshooting
Nothing from this pack appears in /af:menu. The base pack isn't installed, isn't active, or its script is down. The expansion can't show a menu of its own.
A species never spawns naturally. Settings live in world data, so a fresh world starts at defaults — check the species is enabled and its frequency isn't at zero. Deep-sea species need deep ocean and depth below y=40.
Saddling does nothing. Reload the world first, then check the species is set to carry riders in /af:menu — every species ships with riding off.
Aquarium pieces place and animate but heal nothing. The base pack is older than v1.57.3. Update Animal Fun - Land.
Two name labels show at the top of the screen. Another add-on is drawing its own look-at label — Massive Trees does by default. Set its label to Only this pack's trees, or set Animal Fun's entity tag to Plain text or Off in /af:hud.
My megalodon has gone. It moved to Animal Fun: Prehistoric in v1.8.0 and kept its id. Install that pack and it comes back; the one swimming in your world was never deleted.
What's new in v1.10
- Vibrant Visuals (v1.10.9) — the pack no longer holds a world at Fancy graphics, so Vibrant Visuals can be switched on. Every fish has a wet sheen, and the castle's windows, the heater coil and the diver's lamp glow. Every other resource pack in the world has to support Vibrant Visuals too. The Field Guide pictures and placard faces are redrawn to match how the game draws the models.
- No air bubbles (v1.10.8) — water flows into every aquarium piece, so one set down in a dry tank fills when the tank does. Pieces already standing dry in a world fill themselves when a player comes near, with Land v1.60.1 or newer.
- Fish that keep their bite (v1.10.7) — a fish set to Passive no longer loses its attack for good, a fish that grows up keeps its hit box, and every species has its own spawn egg.
- The aquarium repainted (v1.10.6) — all sixteen pieces at 32 px with real shading and grain: mossy rock, cobbled stone, a striped life-ring, plank and bark, ashlar with lit castle windows, brass, riveted steel, colored gravel and new swaying plants. The diver, chest, castle and shipwreck have a proper item icon of the whole piece.
- The aquarium — sixteen pieces with recipes, their own recipe-book group and a page in the Field Guide's zoo kit. Every fish seeks them out.
- Four animated showpieces — the diver, treasure chest, castle drawbridge and shipwreck flag are animated models that face the way you place them.
- Livelier water — bubbles that wobble and pop at the surface, a churning filter, a fizzing heater, tumbling food flakes, and every flipbook with twice the frames, blended.
- Every piece's name ends in (zoo), in every language, so the whole kit comes up together in the recipe book.
- Honest hearts — each piece's description now says exactly how much it heals.
Every sound and every texture in this pack was made for it. Nothing here is a recording, a rip or a derivative — see CREDITS.md in the pack.
