Description
Andy's Comforting Campfires
Healing hearths, restorative campfire food, and rune-lit Lanterns for Minecraft Bedrock
Turn a simple fire into a place worth gathering around. Andy's Comforting Campfires adds a survival-crafted progression from a gentle campsite healing aura to a full Hearthfire and finally a Community Comfort capable of supporting a village, shared base, or community dwelling. The same fires cook restorative Comforting food through Minecraft's familiar placed-on-campfire mechanic, while normal, Soul, and Copper Comfort Lanterns provide small local healing for rooms, paths, and work areas.
Vanilla-friendly by design
The placed blocks remain Minecraft's familiar Campfire, Soul Campfire, Lantern, Soul Lantern, and Copper Lantern variants. The add-on tracks only the custom Comfort items crafted through its recipes and layers their healing, persistent tier identity, menu, inventory shimmer, and floating-rune visuals around the underlying vanilla blocks.
It does not globally replace vanilla block textures, flames, recipes, loot tables, mobs, interfaces, or world generation. Ordinary Campfires, Soul Campfires, and Lanterns remain ordinary. No cheats, commands, Beta APIs, experimental gameplay toggles, or additional add-ons are required.
Requirements
- Minecraft Bedrock Edition 26.30 or newer
- Both included Andy's Comforting Campfires packs activated on the world
- Stable
@minecraft/server2.8.0 and@minecraft/server-ui2.1.0 support, supplied by Minecraft - No experimental toggles
- No cheats or commands
- No required dependencies
Standard graphics and Vibrant Visuals are supported by the included Resource Pack.
Feature overview
| Feature | Range | Active behavior |
|---|---|---|
| Comforting Campfire / Soul Campfire | 5 blocks | Intermittent Regeneration I while lit; intentionally gentler than the continuous upgraded aura |
| Hearthfire / Hearthfire Soul Campfire | 8 blocks | Continuously refreshed Regeneration I while lit |
| Community Comfort / Community Comfort Soul Campfire | 64 blocks | Continuously refreshed Regeneration I for friendly life across a four-chunk-distance radius while lit |
| Comfort Lantern | 3 blocks | Minor intermittent Regeneration I; Lanterns are always active while placed |
| Comforting food | Personal | Food-appropriate hunger and saturation plus a short guaranteed Regeneration I effect |
Healing is measured from the placed block in three-dimensional distance. The add-on does not force chunks to remain loaded.
Installation
Windows and supported desktop devices
- Download the current
Andys_Comforting_Campfires_0.1.7.mcaddonfile from the official project page. - Open the
.mcaddonwith Minecraft Bedrock. - Wait for Minecraft to report successful imports for both the Behavior Pack and Resource Pack.
- Create a world or edit an existing world.
- Open Behavior Packs → My Packs, select Andy's Comforting Campfires [BP], and choose Activate.
- Confirm Andy's Comforting Campfires [RP] is also active under Resource Packs. The two packs are linked, but both should be verified.
- Enter the world and begin with the base Comforting Campfire recipe.
Android and iOS
Download the .mcaddon, open or share it to Minecraft, allow both packs to import, and activate both packs on the intended world. File-handling steps vary by device and operating-system version.
Consoles through a Realm
Consoles do not provide the same general local file-import workflow. Import and activate the add-on on a supported Windows or mobile device, upload that prepared world to a Realm, and then join the Realm from the console. Minecraft delivers the required world packs through its normal Realm process.
Servers and Realms
Install and activate both packs on the world before uploading or starting it. Joining players must accept the required Resource Pack so the custom item names, shimmer, and rune particles display correctly.
Updating
- Back up an important world.
- Import the newer
.mcaddonand wait for Minecraft to confirm the update. - Edit the world and verify that version 0.1.7 of both linked packs is active.
- Remove or deactivate obsolete duplicate copies if Minecraft retained them.
- Completely leave and reopen the world before testing the update.
The project UUIDs remain stable so surviving placed records are designed to continue across add-on updates.
Quick start
- Craft a normal or Soul Comforting Campfire in a Crafting Table.
- Place the custom item on top of a solid block with a clear space above it.
- Keep the hearth lit and stand within five blocks to receive its gentle aura.
- Place supported food directly on the fire and wait for normal campfire cooking to finish.
- Crouch + interact with the hearth to read its range and cooking guidance.
- Craft the matching Hearthfire when you are ready for full healing and vegetable cooking.
- Craft Community Comfort for a large shared space, or build Comfort Lanterns for focused three-block healing.
Crafting the hearth progression
All three progression steps use shaped Crafting Table recipes. Normal and Soul versions must remain matched throughout the progression.
Comforting Campfire
| Golden Carrot | Amethyst Shard | Golden Carrot |
|---|---|---|
| Golden Carrot | Campfire or Soul Campfire | Golden Carrot |
| Golden Carrot | Amethyst Shard | Golden Carrot |
Materials: six Golden Carrots, two Amethyst Shards, and one Campfire or Soul Campfire.
The output keeps the normal-vs-Soul identity of its center ingredient. While lit, it gives friendly life intermittent Regeneration I within five blocks. Small gaps between effect refreshes deliberately make this tier slower than Hearthfire.
Hearthfire
| Golden Apple | Amethyst Cluster | Golden Apple |
|---|---|---|
| Golden Apple | Matching Comforting Campfire | Golden Apple |
| Golden Apple | Amethyst Cluster | Golden Apple |
Materials: six Golden Apples, two fully formed Amethyst Clusters, and the matching normal or Soul Comforting Campfire.
Hearthfire continuously refreshes Regeneration I within eight blocks while lit. It also unlocks Comforting Carrot, Comforting Potato, and Comforting Beetroot cooking.
Community Comfort
| Emerald Block | Bell | Emerald Block |
|---|---|---|
| Clock | Matching Hearthfire | Enchanted Golden Apple |
| Comforting Carrot | Comforting Steak | Comforting Potato |
Materials: two Emerald Blocks, one Bell, one Clock, one Enchanted Golden Apple, one matching Hearthfire, one Comforting Carrot, one Comforting Steak, and one Comforting Potato.
Community Comfort continuously refreshes Regeneration I for friendly life within 64 blocks while lit. That is a four-chunk-distance radius from the hearth, making it suitable for villages, community halls, server gathering areas, large bases, and shared dwellings. It does not keep those chunks loaded.
Comfort Lanterns
Comfort Lanterns use one shaped recipe with the center Lantern changed to the desired vanilla variant.
| Comforting Carrot | Amethyst Shard | Comforting Carrot |
|---|---|---|
| Comforting Steak | Supported Lantern | Comforting Steak |
| Comforting Potato | Amethyst Shard | Comforting Potato |
Materials: two Comforting Carrots, two Comforting Steaks, two Comforting Potatoes, two Amethyst Shards, and one supported Lantern.
Supported Lantern variants
- Lantern
- Soul Lantern
- Copper Lantern
- Exposed Copper Lantern
- Weathered Copper Lantern
- Oxidized Copper Lantern
- Waxed Copper Lantern
- Waxed Exposed Copper Lantern
- Waxed Weathered Copper Lantern
- Waxed Oxidized Copper Lantern
Every Comfort Lantern provides minor intermittent Regeneration I within three blocks. Lanterns have no upgrade tiers and do not need to be relit. Place the custom item on top of a solid block with a clear space above it. Use Silk Touch when moving one if its Comfort identity must be preserved.
Healing targets and behavior
The auras are intended for friendly life rather than hostile-mob regeneration. Supported targets include:
- Players
- Villagers
- Wolves and cats
- Parrots
- Horses, donkeys, and mules
- Llamas and trader llamas
- Other entities Minecraft exposes to the add-on as tamed
Hostile mobs are not healed. A Campfire or Soul Campfire aura operates only while the tracked block is lit. Extinguishing the fire stops both the healing and its rune emission; relighting it resumes both. Breaking, replacing, or moving the expected block removes or suspends its active behavior.
Lanterns have no extinguished state, so a correctly placed tracked Comfort Lantern remains active whenever its chunk is loaded.
Crouch + interact hearth menu
Crouch and interact with a placed Comforting Campfire, Hearthfire, or Community Comfort to open its small information panel. The panel reports:
- The hearth tier
- Its healing radius and behavior
- The food that tier can cook into Comforting forms
- A reminder that normal interaction remains available for vanilla campfire cooking
Lanterns have no menu or upgrade interface. All upgrades happen through shaped Crafting Table recipes; there are no purchase buttons or upgrade settings.
Comforting food
Use Minecraft's normal Campfire or Soul Campfire mechanic: hold a supported ingredient, interact with a placed Comfort hearth, and wait for the visible food to finish cooking. The completed output becomes its Comforting form near the tracked hearth.
Any Comfort hearth tier
- Raw Beef → Comforting Steak
- Raw Porkchop → Comforting Porkchop
- Raw Cod or Raw Salmon → Comforting Fish
- Dried Kelp → Comforting Dried Kelp
Hearthfire and Community Comfort only
- Carrot → Comforting Carrot
- Potato → Comforting Potato
- Beetroot → Comforting Beetroot
The base five-block Comforting Campfire does not upgrade Carrots, Potatoes, or Beetroot. Use Hearthfire or Community Comfort for those vegetables.
Food values
| Food | Nutrition | Saturation modifier | Regeneration I |
|---|---|---|---|
| Comforting Steak | 8 | 0.8 | 8 seconds |
| Comforting Porkchop | 8 | 0.8 | 8 seconds |
| Comforting Fish | 6 | 0.7 | 6 seconds |
| Comforting Dried Kelp | 2 | 0.5 | 3 seconds |
| Comforting Carrot | 4 | 0.6 | 3 seconds |
| Comforting Potato | 5 | 0.6 | 4 seconds |
| Comforting Beetroot | 2 | 0.6 | 3 seconds |
Every listed food has a guaranteed short Regeneration I effect and an enchanted-style inventory shimmer. The nutrition and saturation values are designed to remain recognizable relative to vanilla food rather than becoming an unlimited replacement for normal survival preparation.
Comforting Carrot, Comforting Steak, and Comforting Potato are also progression ingredients for Community Comfort and every Comfort Lantern recipe.
Floating runes and inventory shimmer
Active Comfort blocks use eight randomized rune glyphs derived from the visual language established by Andy's Disenchanting Pillar. Hearth runes emit around the base and surrounding air, then drift upward before fading.
| Comfort family | Rune colors | Visual scale |
|---|---|---|
| Comforting Campfire | Orange and red | Full hearth field |
| Hearthfire | Blue and green | Full hearth field |
| Community Comfort | Purple and magenta | Full hearth field |
| Normal Comfort Lantern | Orange and pink | Scaled Lantern field |
| Comfort Soul Lantern | Blue and purple | Scaled Lantern field |
| Every Copper Comfort Lantern state | Copper and yellow | Scaled Lantern field |
All six custom normal/Soul campfire items, all ten Comfort Lantern items, and every finished Comforting food shimmer in the inventory. The placed blocks remain vanilla-compatible, so they use the rune field as their in-world distinction instead of applying Minecraft's item-glint shader to every vanilla block of that type.
Silk Touch, dismantling, and moving
Use a Silk Touch tool when harvesting a tracked Comfort block that should remain a Comfort item.
- Silk Touch returns the matching custom placement item.
- Normal-vs-Soul type is preserved.
- Comforting Campfire, Hearthfire, or Community Comfort tier is preserved.
- Placing and relighting the returned hearth restores its aura and visuals.
- Silk Touch preserves a Comfort Lantern's supported vanilla variant and Comfort identity.
Mining a hearth without Silk Touch dismantles it instead of refunding the expensive food progression:
- Three Oak Logs
- One Charcoal
- Two Amethyst Shards for a base Comforting Campfire
- Two Amethyst Clusters for Hearthfire or Community Comfort
- Community Comfort additionally returns its Bell, Clock, and two Emerald Blocks
Golden Carrots, Golden Apples, the Enchanted Golden Apple, and Comforting food ingredients are not returned. Check the held tool before breaking an upgraded hearth.
Persistence and chunk loading
Placed Comfort identity is stored against the block's exact dimension and coordinates. Records are designed to survive world saves, restarts, player travel, and chunk unloading.
When a chunk is unavailable, the add-on preserves the record and pauses processing. When the player returns and the chunk loads, healing, particles, and hearth-menu access resume. If the loaded location contains a different block, the stale record is removed.
Version 0.1.7 includes the chunk-safe persistence correction. A block whose record was already deleted by an older development build cannot reveal its former tier because only an ordinary vanilla block remains; replace that block with a newly crafted custom Comfort item.
Multiplayer, servers, and Realms
- Healing can benefit multiple friendly entities at the same time.
- Community Comfort is designed for shared bases, villages, community buildings, and gathering spaces.
- Placed records belong to the world rather than to one player's client.
- Any player can receive an eligible aura.
- Any player can read a hearth's crouch + interact information panel.
- The world owner installs the add-on once; joining players receive the required world packs through Minecraft's normal delivery.
The add-on does not implement ownership, access locks, team filters, or per-player configuration. Use normal world permissions and trusted-building practices on public servers.
Compatibility and limitations
- Minecraft Bedrock 26.30 or newer
- Standard graphics and Vibrant Visuals
- Single-player and multiplayer worlds
- Realms and compatible Bedrock servers
- Overworld, Nether, and End dimensions when the relevant block and entities can exist there
- Both linked packs required
- No experiments, cheats, commands, or dependencies
- No custom world generation
- No global replacement of vanilla Campfire or Lantern textures
- No forced chunk loading
- No healing for hostile mobs
- No Lantern upgrade tiers or Lantern menu
- Custom Lantern placement requires a clear block space above the selected support surface
- Third-party Campfire or Lantern blocks are not automatically supported
If another Resource Pack changes particle materials or aggressively overrides shared vanilla visual resources, place Andy's Comforting Campfires above the conflicting pack and test again. The add-on does not intentionally replace unrelated assets.
Troubleshooting
Minecraft says the add-on failed to import
- Confirm the download is the combined
.mcaddon, not an individual BP or RP.mcpack. - Download the file again in case it was truncated.
- Confirm the filename ends in
.mcaddonrather than.zip. - Remove an incomplete older import from Settings → Storage, restart Minecraft, and import again.
Duplicate Pack Detected
- Confirm the new package is version 0.1.7.
- Remove obsolete copies under Settings → Storage → Behavior Packs and Resource Packs.
- Restart Minecraft and import the current
.mcaddonagain. - Reopen the world and confirm the newest pack pair is active.
The recipe does not appear or craft
- Use a Crafting Table; every Comfort block recipe is shaped.
- Check every slot against the recipe tables above.
- Use Golden Carrots for the base tier and ordinary Golden Apples for Hearthfire.
- Hearthfire requires fully formed Amethyst Clusters, not Shards or Blocks.
- Community Comfort requires an Enchanted Golden Apple, not an ordinary Golden Apple.
- Keep normal and Soul hearth items matched through every tier.
- Community Comfort and Lantern recipes require the custom Comforting Carrot, Comforting Steak, and Comforting Potato.
- Copper Lantern recipes require the exact matching unwaxed or waxed oxidation-state Lantern in the center.
The custom item will not place
- Interact with the top of a solid support block.
- Make sure the block space directly above it is clear.
- Keep the custom item selected until placement completes.
- Confirm the expected block exists in this Minecraft version.
There is no healing
- Confirm both linked packs are active.
- Confirm the block was placed from a crafted custom Comfort item rather than as an ordinary vanilla Campfire or Lantern.
- Relight a Campfire or Soul Campfire if it is extinguished.
- Move inside the correct 5-, 8-, 64-, or 3-block radius.
- Confirm the target is a player, villager, supported companion, or an entity Minecraft exposes as tamed.
- Hostile mobs are intentionally excluded.
- Let the relevant chunk finish loading after returning from a long trip.
The effect appears to pulse
That is intentional for the base Comforting Campfire and Comfort Lantern. Their Regeneration I duration is shorter than the refresh interval, creating a gentler intermittent effect. Hearthfire and Community Comfort continuously overlap their refresh duration while lit.
Particles are missing
- Confirm the Resource Pack is active and accepted by the client.
- Check Minecraft's particle and graphics settings.
- Relight an extinguished hearth.
- Leave and re-enter the area after confirming version 0.1.7 is active.
- Test with other Resource Packs disabled or place this pack above a conflicting visual pack.
- Compare Standard graphics and Vibrant Visuals.
Inventory items do not shimmer
- Confirm the newest Resource and Behavior Packs are both active.
- Confirm the item is the custom Comfort version, not the visually similar vanilla item.
- Remove older duplicate packs and restart Minecraft.
Crouch + interact does not open the menu
- The menu exists only on tracked Comforting Campfires, Hearthfires, and Community Comfort hearths.
- Crouch before interacting.
- Normal interaction remains reserved for campfire cooking.
- Comfort Lanterns intentionally have no menu.
- If an older development build already lost the record, replace the now-vanilla block with a newly crafted custom Comfort item.
Food cooks but remains vanilla
- Confirm it was placed directly on a tracked Comfort hearth.
- Use Beef, Porkchop, Cod, Salmon, or Dried Kelp at any tier.
- Use Carrot, Potato, or Beetroot only at Hearthfire or Community Comfort tier.
- Wait for the normal campfire cooking cycle to complete.
- Keep both packs active and remove older duplicates.
Behavior does not return after traveling away
Version 0.1.7 preserves records while chunks unload. Confirm the newest pack pair is active, allow the chunk to load, and test again. If an older development build already deleted that block's record, its former custom tier cannot be inferred from the remaining vanilla block; replace it with a newly crafted Comfort item.
Silk Touch did not preserve the item
- Confirm the held tool actually has Silk Touch.
- Use the Silk Touch tool for the final break action.
- Make sure version 0.1.7 is active before breaking valuable upgraded hearths.
