Description

GlymeraCaptureCrate - A Capture Crate That Remembers

Extends Hytale's native Capture Crate: catch any of 451 creature roles and release them later as identical copies. Exact appearance variant, visible equipment, inventory, and HP are preserved inside the crate. Single-use.

What is GlymeraCaptureCrate?

Hytale's built-in Capture Crate is a charming farming tool, but it only catches about 32 small creatures (mostly baby animals and tiny critters), and when you release them they come back as brand-new random individuals. GlymeraCaptureCrate turns it into a universal capture tool that preserves the identity of what you caught.

Catch a very specific zombie wearing a Monk Cap and a Maid Dress? Release it months later and it still wears the Monk Cap and the Maid Dress. Catch a Trork Warrior carrying a weapon? He still has that exact weapon when you let him out. The crate itself carries the data, so the captured mob survives server restarts, logouts, trades, and storage in chests.

How It Works

Crafting (the same bench as before)

Craft at the Farming Bench under "Farming":

  • 4x Wood
  • 15x Life Essence

(Hytale's original recipe was 50 Life Essence - we kept the plugin's cost low since crates are now consumed on release.)

Capturing

  1. Hold an empty crate in your hand.
  2. Right-click on the creature you want to catch.
  3. If the role is supported (all 451 living roles are), the crate becomes full and shows the captured creature's icon.

While the crate is full, the captured creature's complete state (HP, appearance variant, visible equipment, inventory, nameplate) is stored as BSON metadata inside the item itself.

Releasing

  1. Hold a full crate in your hand.
  2. Right-click the ground.
  3. The creature spawns as an exact copy of the one you caught.
  4. The crate is consumed.

What Gets Preserved

Data Preserved?
Creature role (Zombie, Kweebec_Sapling, Hatworm, …) Yes
Appearance variant (fur color, outfit, hat, jewellery, …) Yes
Visible equipment (held weapons, armor attachments) Yes
Inventory (hotbar slots) Yes
Nameplate text (custom names) Yes
Current HP Captured, but Hytale re-rolls it on release in most cases

For creatures with rich appearance systems (Zombie has 1824 combinations, Kweebec_Sapling has 4992, Hatworm has 9 distinct hats, Camel has 6 fur colors, …), every caught individual comes back looking exactly like the one you caught.

Commands

Command Who Description
/gcc Everyone Show available subcommands
/gcc info Everyone Show details of the crate in your hand (mob, appearance, equipment)
/gcc give OP only Give yourself one empty Capture Crate

Use /gcc info while holding a full crate to see exactly what's stored inside - useful before deciding when to release or trade a particularly nice catch.

Configuration

File: plugins/GlymeraCaptureCrate/config.json (created on first start)

Setting Default Description
craftingEnabled true Whether non-OP players can craft Capture Crates via the recipe. Set to false to disable the recipe server-wide; OPs can still use /gcc give.

Persistence

The captured state lives as BSON metadata on the item itself, not in a separate plugin database. This means:

  • Server restart: Full crates keep their contents.
  • Player logout / relog: Inventory is serialized with the items, metadata stays intact.
  • Trading / giving to another player: The item carries its data with it.
  • Storing in chests: Works normally. A chest full of caught creatures is a working mob library.
  • Stackability: Full crates have unique contents and do not stack; empty crates do (standard Hytale behavior).

Features

  • All 451 creature roles capturable - livestock, wild beasts, intelligent NPCs, undead, skeletons, golems, bosses
  • Appearance variant preservation via Hytale's PersistentModel.ModelReference (robust, uses the engine's own RandomAttachment IDs)
  • UUID-based release tracking - the plugin identifies the freshly spawned NPC by its entity UUID, so crowded areas with many mobs of the same role do not confuse it
  • Retry-based release - multiple short retries (50, 150, 350, 700 ms) to handle spawn timing variance from the native capture interaction
  • Per-item metadata storage - no plugin database, data survives everything the item survives
  • Recipe toggle via config for servers that want to gate access through /gcc give only
  • Recipe cost reduced from 50 Life Essence to 15 (crates are consumed on release now, unlike the native multi-use behavior)

Installation

  1. Place GlymeraCaptureCrate-1.0.0.jar in your server's mods/ folder.
  2. Start (or restart) the server.
  3. Everything is embedded in the JAR - no external asset folders needed.

Good to Know

  • Hytale's original Capture Crate is multi-use (you can release and refill it). This plugin makes the crate single-use (consumed on release), which is why the recipe cost is lower.
  • The plugin overrides Hytale's native Capture Crate item and NPC group - it does not add a new item. Existing crates in the world work with the plugin after install.
  • If craftingEnabled is false, any attempt to craft a Capture Crate is cancelled. OPs can still obtain crates through /gcc give.
  • HP at release often reverts to full because the native release flow re-rolls stats after the plugin applies them. Appearance and equipment preservation remain reliable.
