Overview

Tongues Reforged is a World of Warcraft addon designed to enrich roleplay by introducing dynamic languages, dialects, and speech effects directly into your chat.  Please note that this is simply a working fan update to the original beloved Tongues addon authored by Skrull. The addon project has sat abandoned since 2024 and Skrull has since delected his Curseforge account (_ForgeUser307712). I'm still waiting to hear back from him for permission to take over the actual project page. So I want to be clear that I do not take any credit for this amazing addon other than fixing errors and updating the it into working order.  Full credit and appreciation go to Skrull. Features

Chat & Language Mechanics

• Dynamic Speech: Apply custom languages, dialects, and speech affects to your outgoing messages.
• Smart Filtering: Filter both incoming and outgoing chat to customize your reading and roleplay experience.
• Lore Interpreters: Uses immersive, lore-friendly translation styles.
• Blizzard Language Integration: Respects native game restrictions. For example, an Orc speaking Gutterspeak won't be understood by an Undead listener unless both users have Tongues Reforged active.
• Language Learning: Passively learn new languages over time, with difficulties scaling based on your faction, race, and class.
• Pet Speech: Speak for your controllable pets using /petspeak or /ps.

Translation Utilities

• Auto-Translation: Automatically translates incoming Say, Yell, Party, Guild, Officer, Raid, Battleground, and Raid Warning text from other Tongues users.
• Mass Translation: Quickly broadcast translations to targeted players, your custom translator list, or entire chat channels (Party, Guild, Raid, Officer, Battleground, and Raid Warnings).

Interface & Usability

• Quick Select: Toggle your active language on the fly without reopening the main menu.
• LibDataBroker Support: Integrates with LDB display addons to mimic the mini-menu or "big red button."
• Left-Click: Cycle through your known languages.
• Right-Click: Open the options menu.
• Alt + Left-Click: View a menu of all languages you know.

What It Does Not Do

• Cross-Faction Translation: Due to Blizzard's EULA restrictions and the complex encryption algorithm used for cross-faction text, this addon cannot translate messages between Alliance and Horde.
• Non-Addon Users: Features only work between players who both have Tongues Reforged installed.

Command List

• /tongues — Base command.
• /tongues <language> — Switch to a specific language.
• /tongues opt — Open the options window.
• /dialectswap — Swap dialects.
• /ps <text> or /petspeak <text> — Speak as your active pet.

Language Configuration

How to Add or Adjust a Language

1. Open the options window and go to the Understand tab.
2. Enter the name of the language in the text box and press Enter.
3. Use the slider to set your desired fluency, then click Set.
4. (Optional) Click List at any time to view your known languages and current fluency levels.

How to Remove Languages

• To remove a specific language: In the Understand tab, enter the language name and click Clear.
• To remove all languages: In the Understand tab, click Clear All.
